Great video, actually when you change the focal lengths it is not a simple digital crop, a partial part of the sensor is used and there is image processing done by the dedicated chip that is different, not coincidentally if you perform the cropping digitally after the 1x shot, the result is not the same.
Honesly, Apple should make a full camera at this point, the way they let you use pro features on the phone and also the Ai to fix everything on the fly, they can basically made a pro grade camera that can behave as point and shoot when you don't have the time for tweaking every option
Hello Steve! Excellent video! For your comparsion between iPhone 15 Pro Max and S23 U, I'd like to suggest you to test the raw video shot between these two phones. Yes, Android phones do shoot raw video through the MotionCam Pro app (directly on the SSD!). Pixel phones and Samsung S series has support to all lenses. The app was released a few months ago and so far I haven't seen much content about it, but I'm enjoying what I'm experiencing with my device. I think it's worth seeing a battle between these two monsters :)
4:35 Steven you select the camera settings before hitting record the menu is right there on the left hand side of the screen. Why would you want to have menus while recording footage then you hand will get in the way of what you will see if you want to constantly change the toggles. Think dude.
The problem with those pro features of Apple are that they sound professional, but will not be used by anyone really. But simple pro controls in the App (eg. those you mentioned like iso, speed, WB) which I as a non-professional user often use, are missing. Btw., your zoom lens has infinite number of lenses😁 Apple is just hilarious.
I'd choose manual controls of white balance and iso over Prores Log any day of the week. Just as an example: I had a cinema camera that also could film ProRes internally, but I never used it due to file size, however I am adjusting white balance and other settings manually every time I film. So long story short: Manual Settings>ProRes Log. And yeah the 7 lenses thing....do not get me started lol
Regarding the Lens, My phone have 3: 12mm - 24mm and 120 mm equivalent... The 2 X is a sensor crop with addition of distortion correction. Unfortunately, the final results has less quality than the 24 mm cropped on the computer. I preferred the options available on my iPhone 13 because the 120mm is too tight and not the best choice for portrait. With a 5 X zoom, a 26mm equivalent would have been a better choice for the standard lens because the gap between 24 and 120 is way too large. What is needed is a 4th lens with 2X (48mm - 52mm) equivalent.
Hi I love going to concert, so how is it stabilization and low light and a lot of surrounding different come color lights coming at you what might be the best mode for me too do so going to U2 soon
I don’t film video much, but I’d like to learn more about it. This pro res is interesting to me, but I’m completely unfamiliar. How do you go in and fill in/adjust the colors after filming? Does Apple do it automatically, have editing built in to do it, or do you need some sort of external program?
I’m wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue, but when I point my iPhone 15 Pro Max’s camera towards a light source, a reflection appears on the screen. Could this be due to the lens protector?
Hey, great video! Hi from Brasil! I’d like to hear what do you think about the iphone 15 pro max front camera taking selfies? When I check my selfie on my gallery it looks horrible, grainy and dark. A lot of people complaining about this too. I’m so frustrated :(
What is so special about image resizing, and artificially creating a size that does not correspond to the actual pixel size? And no, there is no dedicated image processing pipeline for each of 1x, 1.25x and 1.5x modes as Apple claims. If yes, Apple developers would have done something wrong?
Should i go for iPhone 15 or the last years 14 pro, i don't think this years 15 pro or pro max is that much of a value for the money ur paying, do help me out about this

Love your videos! Please work on the pixel 8 pro next, they introduced pro mode this year and I'm curious to know what a good photographer/videographer like you thinks about it.
They need to move action button on top right side...so you can use it for camera...in landscape mode. Now it's like under the phone when you are recording videos or take pictures in landscape mode.
My friend bought me an Iphone - the first day, the phone dropped on to the kitchen floor and broke. Never again will I buy or accept an Iphone in my life.
Portrait mode is revolutionary because it activates automatically, captures at 24 megapixels, the edge detection is really good and the blur looks realistic, why pixel 7a has better portrait mode, no pixel phones have better portrait mode than iPhone except the pixel 2 and 4, and the oversharpened looks on pixel portrait is not good
The data that is taken is ready to make a portrait shot by editing the photo afterwards. Even more you can change the focus point. If you manually choose portrait mode, you cannot do this - for some reason.
1:28 actually no need for the action mode even iphone 11 can do that ..check my channel for that video 4:25 no need for that coz it will be an annoying icon for the screen you can actually set that on your settings. 7:09 i really like that it was shot on iphone ? 7:20 damn those eyes are clear 9:43 i like how you used the screen instead of putting annoying white background that can ruin the eyes and cant see clearly the sample pictures
I like the review but I feel it's heavily biased by the classical photography enthusiast. For example, the 3 "lenses" from the main camera are just not digital zoom, there are some enhancements happening when using those lenses, so, called it "digital zoom" without taking the time to understand what happens is lazy at best. When it comes to Portrait, the idea is that you will not need to worry for taking the picture using Portrait, instead, you can just transform a regular picture into portrait. As far as I know, Google Pixel doesn't offer this, Pixel may convert some pictures to portraits but it's not exactly the same thing, also, all of the AI features from Pixel, heavily rely on data servers, and most of them don't work locally. Even the Pixel 8 pro will suffer of this with the HDR videos. Finally, comparing features offered by Google that are trained with billions of photos versus the ones Apple developed with proprietary neural networks is just not fair, same happens with Assistant vs Siri.
Their 7 lenses argument is not far off. They use the 24mm 48MP resolution and bin the pixels to 24MP. They do the same for the 28mm and 35mm "lenses" they bin the 48MP down to 24MP each time. Hence you do not have digital zooming happening as the base is always 48MP and the result always 24MP.
Very informaive video One point though - the 5x camera, or 1x, 2x etc. is actually "times", not "ecks". It's the multiplication factor. You're not the only reviewer making this mistake...
I can’t understand why everyone is having a hard time with the seven lens thing. None of the lenses on an iPhone are removable so of course it’s going to be a crop of the three non removable lenses and a 24,28,35mm focal lengths
@@Ahmad.Mujtaba.Marzi. my wife is an avid iPhone and MacBook user, so our phones don't always communicate the best,I hate that the pictures and videos she sends me from kids sporting events aren't great quality,so I'm changing for that reason I guess.
this youtube era when an iphone release man... the goal isnt to beat a real professional camera, it's just to get something similar or close to in the same slim device that you use in the toilet in the morning... ok you'll tell me, a 400-600$ phone can get the same quality but do they provide the same experience with the ecosystem and everything combined ? does the 400-600$ check all the customers boxes, depends on your needs ofc ! but if iphones are the most sold phones and break records that ain't for nothing, am i wrong ?
Great video. Until you get to the end. Apple constantly gets criticized from both sides. Apple created the first App Store precisely because PROFESSIONALS complained they could produce better software for their various professions than a technology company. Apple has an annual developers conference to spotlight many app creators who fully utilize Apples’s hardware. Ray tracing is another hardware feature Apple introduced into the hardware so developers can create new capabilities for app developers. The App Store is an Apple feature, not a shortcoming. Black Magic is optimized to use the iPhone hardware technology. Photographers, designers, illustrators all wanted Apple to just concentrate on the hardware. Of course, plenty of other professionals want Apple to create ALL the software features as well and not use any 3rd party apps.
I have this phone for 2 weeks now, switched from 13 pro. I really like the 5x lens but I know a lot of people don't really like telephotos. I think the 5x lens produces better photos than I expected.
