Hi Catherine! I see some chatter about the flower hairclip “dropshipping”, but if I may throw in my two cents on this - I can understand why some people might be upset, but at the same time, it’s not a main staple product. It’s just an add-on item. I have about 10 of those hair clips in all different colors! I bought them all from a small biz on TikTok! I know she dropships all of her items, but if I wanted the same item anywhere else, I’d probably get it from SHEIN or Amazon or some other huge retailer. But why would I pay them when I can pay a small biz owner or Katnipp? Why is it such a bad thing? It’s not as if Catherine is saying she designed and made the hair clips herself. It’s like if you bought an authentic street cart food because you rather fund the small business rather than McDonalds, but then you also buy a water bottle that clearly they didn’t create and source themselves lol. I think sometimes people just want to be upset by creators and it’s okay. Sell the hair clips Catherine. If they don’t want to buy it they don’t have to buy it but I would still rather get it from you than Amazon or SHEIN.

I thought the exact same thing, I follow a bunch of my fave small business owners, and I know as a small business usually I can get that item much cheaper elsewhere, but they have curated that to go in their shop, and if Im purchasing a item, I might as well add it to the basket to go with my new outfit or goodies I bought If I love it! Thats what my mindset was behind these, I absolutely love them and the style and since I wanted to start encorporating apparel, I thought these would be great basket toppers which go super well with the outfit, why pay shipping twice from another retailer!
@@KatnippStudios Yes exactly! I would much rather buy some cute things from you and little side accessories whether it’s be big flower hair clips or small little knick knacks here and there! I think people just want to find a reason to be upset by creators sometimes which is why I felt compelled to say this. I hope other people can see this and think, it is really not a big deal. I was actually going to suggest that one day you add some other cart topper items like stationary pens, box cutters, etc! They would just compliment your shop really well!
I also just don’t understand why people get so upset by dropshippers in general 😅 they are just small business owners trying to make a living and people very well would buy the same exact stuff from big corporations retailers so I’m really not sure why he upset??
I hope you'll make the backing card in a shape and image of Bumblebutt! Like he's flying over the flower hair clip, I think that'd be sooo cute

Hey Katherine, can you share in a video how you configure the color on your projects and how to configure the color of printing devices? I haven’t learn how to setup CMYK 😭

In most programs/apps, you would just choose CMYK instead of RGB.
Prob in a drop-down menu.
Best practice is to first ask the manufacturer in what format they want the files.
In many cases, there may be someone there who would give you tips, pointers and their website/blog/ channel may even have a page, graphics or video on how to set up your files.
In fact, I've come across pin manufacturers, and POD companies that have helpful templates, articles and videos how to plan your artwork and set it up in your graphics software in order for them to make the best print/pin/embroidery, etc.
I like the paper with the slot for it to clip in. It can also be hole punched at the top and placed on a hook if you do conventions.
You should do an advent calendar of your products! I remember those were really popular last Christmas! I think it could be fun to get on from you!
Don’t worry about the haters Catherine. You’re a designer, you make amazing things. One drop shipped item isn’t gonna kill anyone. They’re so dramatic. I never saw these clips before and they are adorable!

Check out candy/food packaging options online. I purchased some cardboard/chipboard boxes for sone of my products. I thought of them immediately. You can get some with window cut outs or plain that you could plop a branded sticker on. There’s lots of interesting candy/bakery packaging products that would work well.

I'm getting a new product manufactured (& it's a pretty big/exciting one!) that I've invested so much into and I'm so nervous but I also can't wait to see how it turns out. New products are so exciting!
Love the clips! They work perfectly with your brand.
The same thing happens to me when it comes to things I like not doing well. It makes it really hard to predict how things will go because sometimes you create things and think "oh god this is awful" and it does well and other times it's like "I really like this and I put a lot of effort into it" and it does terrible. It doesn't make sense that something that looks worse or has had less effort put into it does better, but sometimes that's just how it is.
My favorite for the clip is the one with the rectangle hole in the middle. I know it would be more work, so I would totally understand not choosing it, but I can see you making that look amazing!

The hair grip backing card is definitely better! I would rather go with what looks better over it being easier to add the tags. Either way everything in this blog is super frikkin cute!

I love the designs can you make a washi design with the tea cup design on top- it's one of my favorites
you can design and cut it with a cricut or silhouette so you can get precise cuts consistently

You could always cut out the backing cards for the clips on the cricut. Wouldn’t be an issue to add a cutout.

A backing card or an extra cardboard should be enough. There is already so much plastic waste with packaging for only one product, don't need more :) The pins are really cute

It is an absolute fact of nature that the things you like the least are loved the most. I've had that happened to me loads of times with my small shop. The stuff I am most excited about often don't do as well. The stuff I make that I call "filler" ends up being super popular. Like I said. Fact of nature. xD

Screen printing is a type of technique where its like stenciled onto the pin!

I know this is an old vlog at this point LOL but I just wanted to say the way that ppl heard the term drop shipping once and ran with it without having a clue what it actually means is INSANE. Like you buying an item at wholesale to sell for your shop is NOT DROP SHIPPING !! That's just how EVERY retail store works !! Drop shipping usually means you never come in contact w the product at all and that they ship straight from the manu. Like do people order from Walmart and get upset that they're """Dropshipping""" bc they ALSO buy items to resell?? How do people think placed like Target acquire name brands to sell bc they aren't making them in house/didn't come up with those things on their own. Like almost every retail store works like that dfjkfdslkfsdlkjfdlsjk

I'd like to ask you a question, as a "big-small business" that ships a high number of orders per year.
How do you deal with the “packaging laws” active in Germany, France, Spain (and I think also Greece and some other EU countries)?
I was considering some ideas for a small business, some of which have only products in digital download and others with physical items to ship.
While doing my research, I stumbled into the "German packaging law" and then into the " EU packaging law". There I've found that this law has been adopted by far more countries than Germany.
I’ve NEVER heard of it before now! D:
Long story short this law asks people who ship goods to pay for the packaging they inject into the market. For example, to ship goods to Germany, you must register to a system called LUCID, choose one of the companies they list and declare how many kgs of packaging you send per year and pay a fee. France, Spain, Greece, and some other EU countries have something similar as well. In Germany, fines for the transgressor are up to like 200.000 Euros.
I'm Italian and I live in Italy, but we don't have anything similar since we have a national recycling system and businesses either rely on a society to collect, differentiate and dispose of the recyclable waste or they commit it directly through the national system sorting it themselves (like through the different bins).
Since you're UK based and, I think, you ship across all Europe, how do you deal/did you deal with this? Because my head is exploding! It's a very useful concept but every country has its own regulations and small businesses are..small. They're not big traders or importers, so it seems all so complicated that it makes me wanting to go fully "digital download" and don't think about this at all XD
Hello! Dean usually sorts this stuff out for us, but we are a member of LUCID, and have to pay a yearly fee for the packaging, I don't know too many details because Dean sorted it out! But I do know we have to pay and register! Im sorry I couldn't be more of a help!

I'm Italian but I didn't know about this until recently and I panicked! I know that some partners in Germany allow to pay a little fee, but France and other countries have flat fees of 80€ under a certain threshold, and it's a lot for very small businesses D:

Retail is a bit weird. I will suggest to add something that is from your brand to make it different. Like theme them with your characters or to put something in one of the petals again from those characters. That would make them more special and more related to your brand.

At first I was really excited to see that you had designed hair clips, but then I realized that you were practically just drop shipping them, and that makes me so so sad as a long time fan. The magic with your shop is how you design/create everything with such joy and passion (especially when you were making a lot of the items in studio), and it really throws it off when you start getting goodies from alibaba to sell in your shop. Please reconsider it in the future!
and you shouldn't sell them on your etsy because they aren't your designs or handmade
Oh no Im so sorry you feel this way, I fell in love with these hair clips, and wanted them as a little cart topper like other shops use, 99.9% of all my items are all my very own, but I felt like these fit into the world of katnipp so well, maybe I will reconsider this if it makes people unhappy, but it was more for people who shopped and payed shipping and wanted to add a cute hair accessory to go with our new tshirts and apparel, Drop shipping is where you don't have any control, I will ship design and package these myself, as a curated peice to fit into our shop

I agree, I love her energy and how generous she is, but I find reselling alibaba / aliexpress hairclips disappointing and I don't see how it really relates to her brand :(

I looked at it like you are part “Katnipp boutique”. 😍 Boutiques are basically where there’s a buyer who buys to sell the style they like in their stores. Why can’t you do the same? I think it TOTALLY fits your brand and is totally cute! It also doesn’t hurt to do a trial run with these, because I agree, people are already paying for shipping it would be cool to have options 🤩 and they are soooo you! 🌸

This is her store and her brand, she’s treating it like part boutique and picking a style she likes , what’s wrong with that? It does look like Katnipp pink, does it not? I would never have seen these hair clips if she never shown it on her RUclips, you can’t get anything on Amazon, but it’s the experience of her handpicking items she likes that fits her brand and there’s nothing wrong with that.
