As a father, I have been putting my son to sleep for the last 4 years, every. god. damn. night. And now, I can "sense" the second he falls asleep, its like you can feel it in the air, he is no longer present.

I just let my son go in his room an play with his toys til he passes out. There's no getting that boy to bed if your in the room with him. He needs time by himself to play and mentally unwind then he passes out before long happy and tired.
Some kids are just independent, they don’t need you for much if they can do it themselves. My youngest, tried to have him on a napping schedule like my other 2 but he would just go and lay down, take a nap all on his own. I’d go look for him and he was already doing nap time, same with bed time when we stay up later during the weekends.
My mom would make me do tomorrow's homework if I decided to be awake. Don't stress yourself with all these theories and analogies, start teaching em addition and subtraction if they don't sleep
Yup! Mental work is more draining than physical work. Math is definitely my go to

If i teach those to a 2 year old, they wont understand yet they will be happy to be awake because they think its a family night talk.

In my house we all go to bed at the same time and randomly at 3 AM I woke up to my oldest looking at me like 3 inches from my face next to my side of the bed in the dark and my black ass almost turned Casper white and knocked her out. 😂😂 turns out she just wanted to lay next to me

My pops had the exact same "problem" with me 😅 one night he put on the discovery channel, hoping to bore me to sleep he says. Instead this became a decade-long tradition of ours that we dubbed "Bedtime Discovery Hour" 😅❤️ I LOVED it and so did he - we still do!

See I'm 25 now, and my dad has serious health problems these days, so we can't visit at all during the pandemic. . . but some nights he'll call me up at 10:30 pm SHARP, talking about how he "hasn't been sleeping too well," and I know what that means. We watch our 10:30 Discovery Hour on the phone together and he is SO chatty through the whole thing just like I used to be 😅 He just wants to talk to me, I can tell. I don't dare hang up until I know he's fast asleep either, no matter how long it takes, lol. It's honestly a very precious thing to experience the other side of that coin now. I'm so grateful.

-Say what you want about Kevin James; the guy is a master at funny, clean comedy and that’s not an easy feat. Anyone can be vulgar to get laughs. This guy gets them by being intelligent with his set up. I stay up at night hoping I catch a King of Queens I haven’t seen before, that show was comedy gold.
My family has a lot of DVD's of that show. We watch it all the time and laugh all the time. Especially at Aurthor Spooner.

I used to do a lot of babysitting, and sometimes the kid didn't want to go to bed. I always told them, "Go to sleep or your parents aren't going to let me watch you anymore." That usually convinced them because I was their favorite babysitter.

I had the same thought. Would have driven me crazy to have to do this every night when my children were little.

ppl taking a comedian joke a bit too serious maybe. gonna say it's literally a guessing game with every kid, cuz some ppl just finds the solution faster but there's noone who knows their kid before they try a few things, and some parents just don't fit using Kevin's described method due to lack of time and/or patience. he also prob asked his wife and he's just repeating in a way here what his wife tells him to do cuz she's the primary carer that teaches the habits to their kids I think.

My wife and my MIL always tell me they struggle to put my daughter to bed. And they do exactly what this guy says you shouldn't... which is to engage and talk to her. Worse, if they're all in the same room, they talk to EACH OTHER. And they tell me I do magic. I don't. Like he said, I just lie down, breathe hard, forget about the TV, and just wait it out.

I used to struggle a lot with bedtime and...It May sound overly simple but they will go to bed if they are exhausted and fed. Don’t let them nap if you fight bedtime. and just make it normal-it’s 8, read two stories and lights out. Seriously my kids used to go to bed at midnight because they napped too long during the day and it was awful. also limit sugar. This sounds like duh but my kids just go to sleep now and sleep 11 hrs a night 99% of the time.
Common sense isn't so common. Too many parents baby coddle their kids for too long.

I love listening to comedians that talk about their kids. Makes me happy im never having any. Knowing I never have to deal with putting kids to sleep is pretty great.
Kids are only as complicated as the parent makes it. In 6 or 7 yrs they're grown and don't need you all the time. Our kids put themselves to sleep after we do our skincare routines and prayers together. Makes me happy I actually have a family and no longer have to pretend I'm happy without them.

I don't understand why some women be like "honey do me a favor" everytime they're asking for their husbands to do something about the kids, wdym favour? It's the dad, he made them too, they're equally yours and his, he shouldn't be doing any favours that's his duty as a dad, isn't it?
I get your point but maybe they had shared the tasks for the kids or smth. Maybe she'll make breakfast for them and put them to bed and he takes them to school or for practice or something. So for kind of doing a task he wasn't used to, it would be considered a favour.
As a mom I can tell you it's still the worst!! Those kids aren't fooling!
wow these parents that sleep with their kids or like james, lay down with them until theyre alseep...????!!!! thats nuts. my parents had a nightly routine from the cradle....warm baths, pjs on, get into bed, get read a story & get a good night kiss. they shut the door & we slept. 4 kids. we didnt know anything different. ill do the same with my kids.

It's opposite for me. My youngest goes to sleep in 5 minutes with dad. It has taken me up to 2 hours before. If he's home, he gets bedtime duty. And I'm more strict at night.
I had to put my dog to sleep and THAT was bad enough. I couldn't imagine putting my kids to sleep. :-(

I never had this problem with my daughter but my boyfriends kids want to talk and play all night long. The littlest will talk to her stuffed animals all night. And I mean all night 6am and they are still not asleep type of nights.
My dad was great at getting my baby sister to behave and sleep, even better than her mother. With her mother she would move around and play and sing and so on but with my dad she would look up at him, he would say go to sleep and she would be asleep within 5 minutes
