So many gems in here. It would be interesting to learn more about how to deal with the backlash that results from changing co-dependent behavior especially in terms of narcissistic partners and friends who like the way the relationship is set up and so are threatened by a new way of relating. How do we continue to listen to ourselves/ not abandon ourselves in the face of fierce resistance?
So glad it resonated for you! And I hear you. You don't owe anything to anyone but yourself. They will try to pull you back to the old way of relating but stay true to yourself. this video may be a good place to start: ruclips.net/video/ccF6VFIdPCg/видео.html
@@terri_cole thanks for directing me to that video. I've struggled to organize my thoughts and put words to my story and experiences-you lay it out so clearly, especially with the concrete examples and how to respond. Thank you🙏
Hi Terri and Mark. Years ago, whenever my adult daughter and I would go shopping, she would automatically pass the basket to me. She would be choosing what she wanted to buy and pop it in the basket. I would literally be carrying her load. She had a tendency to walk ahead of me too. My therapist at the time suggested I pass the basket back on our next shopping trip. I felt so uncaring passing that basket back.
I didn't realise that changing your whole schedule for someone and also knowing where they are at a particular time is codependency. I always thought that it is love. Now I realise that it does add extra responsibility for the person and also not helpful
Can you please create an app to meet people who believe in gaining this self awareness to be healthy in a relationship? How do I find any of you people?! 😂❤️🙏
Haha that's a great idea! But also, putting this out there (that you're interested in dating a self-aware person who is working on themselves) on any dating apps or with people you meet can also help 😉
Codepency with kids.. I struggle so much with this. My youngest is Autistic and my teen daughter has some traits of BPD (she’s getting professional help).. I feel like I’m constantly over-functioning. I have poor boundaries already... ok back to therapy I go! 🙄🤔🤷🏼♀️
Thank you Ms Terri & Mr Mark! My name is Rhonda, & I am a recovering Co-Dependant... through my parents. (Single mom) work-in-progress #Breathe #StayingStrong 🤭🤔🤪🙃🤓😁🤟🤗
My favorite quotes that changed my life: "What others think, feel & believe about me, is none of my business." "Other people drama is not my circus, not my monkeys."
Narcissistic mothers infantalize her golden child - I’ve witnessed this & it’s very sad to watch - excellent video! Thank you‼️ in a relationship if you don’t feel free to be yourself, it’s co-dependent 🍑🍑🍑🍑 I can’t thank you enough for that statement 😁‼️
How if the wife never looked or ever will dream to be a detective and the husband is hiding sex toys and bra and a whole new life inside a backpack... and they are married for 30 plus years?????!!!!!$
