I taught High School chemistry, math, and rocket science for about ten years before I retired, and came to find that there is actually some hope for the future of America and the civilized world. Finding that there is at least one 13 year old who appreciates TBBoA strongly reinforces my optimism. "If it sounds good, it IS good." - Duke Ellington
That is fantastic. I love these guys that is why I posted this video. I have everything they have done. Please tell your uncle that The Blind Boys are dearly loved and their performances are magical. Thank you.
I have been a performer for 30 years. When I (and my fellow performers and just about every other performer I know) hear hoots and cheers from the crowd, we LIKE it. It means they're really into us and it creates a flow of energy between us and the performer. If that's not your thing, again, I urge you to stay home. I promise you, performers won't miss your truly negative attitude.
I don't understand, if they don't like it just click the button and find something else. Their comment's aren't needed. If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all. Can I get an Amen on that?
yeah they may be old but they have s ul and are very talented, music know no age, as long as its got my head lighter and my foot tappin it will live forever ;-)
It's very common for traditional songs to have lots of variations. One thing that can make a song traditional is that it belongs to a cultural group as a whole. For this reason it is very hard to determine who the original author of a traditional song is, and it may be that very old traditional songs evolved from other songs, so don't really have a first author. This is true of folk culture in general, including folksongs, folktales, folk toys, etc. p.s. I love this version.
I love Later with Jools Holland. Every time I watch I usually find one group I love. Last time it was Hot Club of Cowtown, and this time it's these guys.
Saw them when they came to aberdeen, and they were possibly the best band i've seen in my life. and i've seen alot of bands. they kept getting up and dancing :D
I've been listening to the boys for a long time now and would advise you to all rush out and order any albums of theirs you can get. New album (first in three years) out at the end of January. Some shops will import their other albums for you, have a few myself and they are addictive, blessed and have anointed voices. Bless them all Clarence you are the MAN.
Original was Bill Landford and the Lanfordaires, from Dec. 15, 1949, one of six songs they did, their only session. Great group, the one sampled by Moby on his track.
Amazingly OUTSTANDING! Sweet 'back up' players, as well as the keyboard man. Give me the BIG goose-bumps, every time I HEAR it. HAVE MERCY!! Blind Boys of Alabama - sure put a new FACE on 'disability'. Touches my soul every time I hear & realize how BLESSED I am to SEE their videos. Stunning... the only 'word' that comes to mind.
When Jesus said, "It is easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven" he wasn't kidding. God bless these Blind MEN of Alabama and all who hear Jesus' voice, even if they are atheists.
@Futavacc That made me lol, scared my dog. Its even funnier to me cause a while back a friend and I were listening to Stevie Wonder and I said, I would love to see him and she said, I bet he'd love to see you too! TY for the chuckle!!
its a traditional folk song thats been played so many ways over the years.. check out johnny cash's version on you tube.. ignore the celeb infested video and just enjoy cash's incredible voice
I remember the original broadcast of this show, and the blind boys also performed 'This May Be The Last Time' a capella, amazing performance, does anyone have this version to upload?
they are so so brill. i love them. does anyone know where i can get the lyrics and chords for this song 'run on'? i just dance big time in the kitchen with this song. thx j
Yeah, how dare the audience show its appreciation of such a wonderful performance. Here's a hint for you -- if you don't like "idiots" cheering, you probably shouldn't go see live performances.
I am only 13 and I love the blind boys of Alabama more than any other music in the world.

The Blind Boys of Alabama are some of God's greatest.
An amazing group of men is all I can say. Phenomenal men of God.
I don't even have to believe in God to know that they have so much soul in their songs. They're just great!

Thanks God Almighty for these Americans.
I heard this on a compilation album and have loved it since. From the bass line to the lyrics and their presentation it's an incomparable song.
They may be blind but they're shining their light upon this Earth! What an amazing blessing!

Moby used the song Run on sung by Bill Landford & the Landfordaires. It's actually quite different from the song Run on by The Golden Gate Quartet.
