  • When you hear 'methamphetamine,' you likely think of illicit drug use and crime dramas. But did you know there's a legal, FDA-approved form of meth called Desoxyn, prescribed for ADHD and obesity?
In this video, Dr. Sanil Rege sheds light on this powerful stimulant's dual role in modern medicine, exploring its potential benefits and serious risks. Discover why Desoxyn is used as a last resort in severe cases of ADHD and obesity and why its high abuse potential makes it heavily regulated.
This comprehensive video delves into Desoxyn's mechanism of action, dosage, and treatment protocols. Dr Rege also discusses why this drug is rarely prescribed, even though it offers hope to those with treatment-resistant ADHD and obesity. The discussion expands to explore how methamphetamine's unique ability to temporarily open the blood-brain barrier could pave the way for innovative cancer treatments, such as chronic myeloid leukaemia and glioblastoma.
Join us to learn about the controversial world of prescription methamphetamine, its risks, and its groundbreaking medical possibilities. Don't forget to subscribe for more videos on neuroscience and psychiatry, and share your thoughts in the comments below.

I have used and been addicted to drugs for about 24 years. First pain killers, then cocaine then crack then meth. Since i was a tiny kid i never felt right. I am always super depressed and really uninterested in anything. Dont really want to be around people or leave the house. Feel super tired all the time and can sleep for 24 hrs like its nothing... I have used drugs because they make me feel normal and make other people like me. When im sober everyone thinks something is wrong with me but when i am high everyone finds me normal and likeable. I really dont get high for fun but really to keep living... The problem is all the side effects and the on and off supply, purity and reactions i have to things. But now approaching 40 i really just want to find out what is wrong with me and maybe find a treatment so i can live a half way normal life. If not and i have to feel and exist like this than i do not want to keep going. Every day is torture practically.

@@RobertKrouse-nf4we i hear you. I just can't get through to a point where I feel anywhere close to bearing it. I've gone 1 year and was sort of doing ok. But the minute I went back to work the stress of it made me turn back to using. Right now I am working 6 nights a week and I have gone about the last week and a half without anything. It's terrible. I'm laying in bed right now tossing and turning. Just want this nightmare to end! I live in a very rural area and don't have access to hardly anything. Let alone people that understand I'm not some sort of demonic piece of garbage. I don't lie, cheat or steal and I work full time manual labor factory jobs... I do the best I can. But I just don't think I will ever be clean and feeling normal. Every day has been a struggle and just terrible for years on end now.

Exact replication of my life story.. keep positive, there are people who understand fully, don’t get discouraged by those in your life that can’t grasp the perspective difference enough to be able to empathize or see between the hazy lines of ‘’addiction’’ and the factual differences between being unbalanced and when we feel ‘’normal’ under this substances effects. The stigmas we face are unfortunately our own doing due to the usual thing we have in common and that’s the years of abusing substances trying to find the fill to that hole that makes us feel not normal. Our loved ones get programmed to seeing the ‘’addict’’ self we often have been to and around them that the idea of this substance can be used medicinally if the patient is in the stage of life and self awareness to be able,to manage the self control. I can see from their shoes why it is so hard . Years of being a liar, or manipulator caused by the drive to feel at base level ‘’normal’’ vs the sincere post the stereotypical recreation stage of life. Some people never grow out of the recreation, some never meant to and some like myself and what sounds like you do and have. I don’t use to get high either. My dosage is roughly and no more than $1.00 a day or roughly a 1/10th gram a day if broken by weight. Because my desire to simply inebriate for the recreational ‘’high’’ for fun is phasing out my perceived tolerance I don’t even really notice. I’m no longer chasing to feel but using to maintain the lowest perceived feeling of normal. I try to maintain acclimation and I typically only feel a high is during a lapse of use such as few days without using for whatever reason. If the supply was/is steady I can maintain the acclimation, get/maintain a schedule where I actually eat , sleep and am able to keep up with my responsibilities to self like working ect. Unfortunately and where I’m going to leave this is remember the perspective of your loved ones and the ‘’I’m assuming like mine’’ years of recreational addiction they had to witness and live to love you through. Be patient and if you are sincere I bet on a prayer maybe you could prove with time and action. It’s hard to undo the things they’ve been programmed ‘’by us’’ to believe about meth as not only a substance people can abuse but also a chemical one if with respect and responsibility can be medicated to the inner personal perception of our personal belief of our own base line balance , whatever that is to you , only you could know where you feel normal, your task now is to teach them what that/ where that is. Good luck. -similarthoughtbox

I could just about write that myself, I have never been real comfortable in my own skin, I have been in counseling for the last three years, and what we discovered is I had many instances of childhood trauma.
Getting a doctor to prescribe any kind of stimulants is tough. If I microdose once or twice a day (3 rips on a bubbler) I feel more “normal” and go about my day just fine. I don’t want to get high from it, I just want to be ok.
I recently stopped using, and it’s fine until I have an attack and I get so wound up inside, I can’t stand it and the only thing I know that immediately relieves is the shit in that glass pipe that we all hate. I’m 64, trust me it just keeps going. Hang in there man, you’re not alone. I love it being out of my system, until I can’t stand it being out of my system.
To an addict, that all made sense, to a normy, probably not so much 😊 Remember always, suicide is not an option, call someone

Yes it started to feel normal around others that would make fun about how I spoke, how I sounded when I spoke…it started in 7 th grade p.E.class where the teacher called me slow -mo.and would moation his arms at me .,then the other kids would start in….in high school it got worse they even had a dress up day ,to dress like me for that day…. I hated it ,,then one day going to class I was stoped by some students and they stoped me laughed in my face doing the slow mo thing then they said why are your eyes so red ,you look so wasted ..I just out of the pool from swimming laps before classes ,I was on the swim team all four years .,. And then when ever my moms sister would visit she would say to me ,your on drugs ,yes you are I can tell… I didn’t do drug until I got so fed up with her causing me of being on them when I wasn’t. After awhile I said fuck this is driving me crazy ,I guess I’ll do the stupid drugs ,after I started she really never said that to as much…..to day I look back knowing what I know today would have controlled myself better but other problems out of my control came into play and I just through everything my family wanted to hear me told me just go away you amount to nothing, you’ll be nothing your dreamer when you going to grow up and hang up your surfboard and get areal job and make something of your self….? I got married to my beautiful wife Jeanne and talked to me and told me just because you used drugs doesn’t make you a bad person you know right from wrong ,your a fabulous husband and I’m so sorry you had Togo through this…I love you for you your an angle sent from heaven oh yes you are.

I’d suggest getting blood work done to determine if you have a metabolic issue as far as the Amphetamine tolerance. A Peak & Trough blood test will confirm exactly your body metabolizes the medication. I wouldn’t suggest taking more of anything without knowing wtf is going on within your body. Metabolism changes as we age so a blood work up including a CBC(complete blood count), a Comprehensive metabolic panel & the Peak & Trough will answer those questions. Tolerance is one thing and can be addressed easily with dose restrictions. Metabolic changes are another issue all together and may require a change in medication, in dosage prescribed or any number of things..

Desoxyn is the only ADD medication that is very rarely if ever prescribed. I’ve never personally had it so I can give an opinion on it. Adderall did wonders for me but it was so habit forming. I haven’t taken it since 2009 when I came off all my meds. I’m one of the fortunate few that beat my ADD/ADHD cause most people like me that were diagnosed at childhood end up taking meds for the rest of their lives in adulthood

I had some friends that would do adderal when i was an older teen. They peer pressured me to do some. I told them it doesn't do the same thing to me. They had a party i took a nap.
Ive been prescribed many many amphetamines. All of them are downers for me. They turn me into an emotionless zombie.

Thanks for such a comprehensive video on this drug! Perhaps you can answer one question for me, as my neurologist didn't have enough info about desoxyn to do so...
For some background first, I have severe, med-resistant narcolepsy with cataplexy. In nearly every other circumstance, my treatment has coincided with the average adhd (which I also have) treatments, just with an amplified dosage. I currently take armodafinil (maxed) and Adderall tablets as a booster to that (also maxed), but this has become insufficient like all the other combinations I've tried over the years. After hearing about this med, i got excited and asked my Dr about it. He said it's actually contraindicated for treating narcolepsy 😯!
Could you please explain to me why that is? I'd very much appreciate your input🙏🏻

That is incorrect however Desoxyn is not commonly prescribed. I would reccomend listening to the video where I discuss Stimulant stalemate - often simply working along the stimulant pathway leads to tolerance or a loss of response as many symptoms are mediated by other mechanisms. In a week or two I will release a video on how does one think through mechanisms when a stimulant / s stop working. But here is the reference for narcolepsy and desoxyn. There are also individual studies showing benefits but it’s not routinely prescribed as other aspects are usually sufficient to address this. narcolepsynetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/NN-Medication-Brochure.pdf

@PsychiatrySimplified thank you for responding so quickly☺️. I'm definitely going to check out the other aforementioned videos you suggested, but the issue (according to my neurologist atm), is that I have N with cataplexy. My brain no longer produces orexin on its own, which is also why it
becomes med resistant. My brain begins to tolerate stimulants much sooner than it would if I were, say, neurotypical🤷‍♀️. It honestly sucks, for lack of a more profound adjective lol. I've HAD to find creative new coping strategies to help me adjust to this new state of being. Thank God for all my previous years of impactful work with therapists, cuz I've definitely been tapping into that mental resource for this, and it's a tremendous help. ... but I really do miss the active luxe I once had, and I especially miss being able to drive. I had to hang up my car keys when I (thankfully) woke up and took ownership of the extreme risk it was to not just my life, but the potential danger to others. My sleep attacks have almost become aggressive over the last couple years.
It has been a few years since u asked my Dr about it (it was fairly new to the US market atm), so it certainly would hurt to ask again. Perhaps there's new research indicating that it is safe for me now🤷‍♀️.
Sorry for this lengthy msg btw, lol, I tend to get pretty chatty, the more sleep deprived that I become🙄😜😵‍💫

Dr, I am prescribed Adderall. Ive tried stronger but my dr gives me Adderall not for adhd. But it helps my mood, sometimes it gives me energy and sometimes just slows my mind down . Ironically, doesnt make my heart race or any of that. I can't use cannabis because it makes my heart pound and get paranoid and feel sick. Adderall and other amphetamines dont do that though. I have ptsd, autism and bad anxiety ive had my whole life. I do take more than prescribed due to tolerance but I'm just trying to get through the day. How much is considered toi much adderall? Because i dont want to die overdose. I act normal on it. helpe me a lot though. Been on Adderall for 4 years now. . Tried Ritalin twice but prefer Adderall. Is it common to help anxiety -its hard to explain.

🔴the thing that really trips me out is the fact that this stimulant or any other is approved for weight loss/obesity all the way down to 6 yrs of age. I mean, cmon, everyone knows that treating obesity and weight loss by being stimulated is the wrong way to go about it because once you stop taking it the Hunger comes back with rage! Not only that but because the feel good effects are no longer there youll eat more to "feel good" in general. Meth shouldnt be approved for weight loss at all.

I think it would be a good idea to require physicians to experience addiction and overcoming that addiction before they are allowed to prescribe that drug to any patients if it is classified as an addictive drug. For sure would make them think on another level before prescribing them willy nilly without much concern about the addictive side of the coin. You can study addiction in med school but will never understand it without experiencing it yourself

When one says ‘results’ one has to be clear about what that means. Please see the latest video on when stimulants don’t work. If one is looking for the ‘boost’ this is something that will always desensitise which means it can be evaluated as the medication not doing much . ADHD treatment and stimulants are meant to improve cognition and activity with better impulse and emotional control. It’s not about feeling but rather a move towards optimum functioning. Hope that helps. But I cover it in the latest video

Ive been saying for years that meth should be more studied for medicinal use. I believe we are all made so differently that it affects each person differently according to how their body metabolizes chemicals, vitamins, nutrition, fats, etc. What i am trying to say is for example, we all have that one friend who can eat cake all day and not get fat and the other friend who eats one piece and gains 5 lbs. Ive watched a group of people smoke thr same stuff out of the same pipe and each one act so differently from the person next to them. Some "tweak", some "geek", and some actually relax and act "normal". Not all meth addicts are out there stealing, dealing, squealing. Some have full time jobs and are very productive people. Nice, generous, intelligent. Without it, they cant get out of bed, very anti social, depressed, suicidal. Now with street meth, you dont know what you are getting. Especially with fentinynal being mixed in. Its a roll of the dice. I believe this definitely should be more looked into, more studied, and more prescribed.
