I’m doing this! I am only 8 weeks into this grow out journey & am already doubting if I can stay firm. I’m 50 with what looks like will be a white streak around my face with more salt & pepper at the back. Such a shock seeing the white after being brunette for so long. The dye strip technique is wonderful for letting some silver shine through but basically growing it out secretly. Your video is inspiring, thank you! 🤍
Super excited to try this. I just turned 51 and have been grey since 25. I guess i had to double my life before I was ready! The earth did not stop spinning during Covid when I had 6 months of roots...but it took me until now to get the courage. I'm excited because this means I get to do it my own way without having to be harsh or mean to me. My hair is fashion colors purple and pink...so I plan to make the most of it while I have it and it will be REALLY CLEAR when I am cutting off those last pink bits in a couple years.
Thank you so much for sharing this dye strip technique. It’s been 12 weeks now since I decided to grow my white hair out. I put my hair back in a ponytail and half up/half down and it looks like I have highlights.
I was on Pinterest and saw someone did this technique. I then came here to RUclips and found your video. You have given me something to truly consider as I am NOT ready for the gray but it looks so nice. I was doing henna but I think the temporary color just may work. I’ve been trying to tough it out but it’s hard for me. I can see the beauty of gray hair on other people but I haven’t done to this point for myself yet. Thank you and take care!
Yes, I would have to go further back than she did in order to get the back. I watched another video that said you do need to get that section in the back too. I’m guessing she’s just still pretty dark naturally in the back. My back part is silver though! 😅
I have been doing this! I use edge control to protect the hairs I don’t want to dye. I didn’t get the idea here, but it is how I am transitioning to gray. I am finding this to be a good way to transition and still work in a professional setting! The gray grow out is getting harder to hide but I have been doing this for 8 months. What I really need now is a hair cut! The hairs that were once dyed every four weeks are really pale and brassy now. I use purple shampoo and a hair mask to help with the brassy. Soon I will cut my hair at the line; the longer I wait the longer my hair will be! They do say that patience is a virtue.
I love the idea of this and have been using this technique but to blend my grays underneath better I bleach strips of hair underneath and color them a lighter brown so it blends in better...
I wish I could do this, but I wear my hair curly, so it wouldn’t work out, and when I try to part my hair on the other side, it’s super wierd looking on me. 😂 The part only looks decent if I end up towards the middle in the back, which I’d have to color, but I’m afraid I’d get too close to my normal part that I want to stay silver. For girls with thick, straight hair like yours, this is a fabulous idea!! I’m mostly dark underneath and on the sides, so I’m going to wear mine up in a bun with a thick headband at the front for now, or, wear hats. It’ll be interesting to see as I’m only 3 years weeks in! 😊 I’m late 40s, and I’m so excited to be on this journey! Thank you for sharing this video. So sweet of you to do this!! ❤
I was going to do this if I was still working while transitioning to silver, however, I was retired so I just opted to go cold turkey. This is a terrific method. You're very skillful with your application as well-you gave great tips. It's looking great!
Thanks V!! ❤️🙌🏼 For now, I only plan on doing it this one time. I am not bothered by the difference phases, I just wanted to try it out…. That’s why I used a temporary color. 🥰
That's a very cool idea, you did great, I really enjoyed seeing someone doing something very different and it looks great 👍 I have to say though I wouldn't be able to do that, I'd find that to be a bit difficult for me to do, as I've never been very good at complicated tasks.
I loved your video. I definitely want to try this technique. Should I wait for the grey to grow out some or can I do it with just a bit of grey showing?
@@ireneclaire - thanks. Yes, it seems so. Any suggestions on managing the sides? I am styling my hair to cover much of the sides but I do feel it will show through quite obviously...
Thank you for this! I am going to give it a try. My hair is not colored and is a dirty, blonde color. I just noticed some silver sprouting up at the crown of my head. I don’t have any silver yet anywhere else, so I really did not know what to do about this silver dollar sized silver sprout coming up in this one spot. I want it to grow out without looking weird. Maybe I should just color half of it? I am also at a ugly hair type phase, as I am growing out a pixie that I have had for several years. I hope I can figure out How to choose the right color without any experience!
Hellooooo! You have a money streak waiting to emerge!!!! I love those! What if you change your part to cover the sprout as it grows… then when it’s long enough you flip it and show it off!!??!? 🤗
How many times did you do the dye strip technique . I am 3 months into cold turkey but worry about when it’s at my ears bc I work in a professional environment. Any advise
Look around your workplace. If no other women are grey, don't go grey. As much as people want to say grey is natural and great, there is still a significant youth bias in some workplaces. In my workplace grey is fine but in others maybe not.
@@happycook6737 Or maybe she can be a pioneer and make gray acceptable at her workplace-or find another place to work that has a healthier work environment. 🙏🏻
Air touch techniqur would be way better. You take thin sections, blow out the short hairs and dye them, leave the long hairs out. That blends very well.
Is the non-permanent hair color the way to go as when you are fully gray, you don't have to grow out this strip. Also, I'm thinking this technique doesn't work if you mostly wear your hair back in a pony tail.
Hello! I’m not understanding your question about using color when you’re fully gray. 🤔 This is method is designed for parting styles so if you’re pulling your hair back the gray will show.
The issue with doing this for me is the funky texture or my natural hair. It is so soft and wimpy, the color/ bleach always gave it direction and body.
It's funny but I just realized, lots of people are doing more work with this gray hair transition than if they were still dying their hair☺️ just as long as you're having fun right 👍
Me too. My hair is too thin. The silver likes to peek through on the sides where I still have dyed over top. This method wouldn’t hide anything for me.
My hair is a weird brownD w old yellow highlights when I went "carmel". I'm barely salt n pepa. I can't seem to communicate w hair stylists, not to diss the industry, but can't seem to say what I want? That's why the DIY.

dont be concerned I went gray 14x before I was ok with letting grays grow out and I like them now at 77
This is how I did my transition. I keep dying for a year, I used extensions to cover the side I wasn't dying. Keep going ☺️😊
I love it! Such a cool technique! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

So glad i could help out!!!! 💥
And this is how I went through the first 2 months of the transition and then, I just flipped it to the other side. I never looked back. :)

I went cold turkey and I'm not retired yet lol 😅 I used a lot of pony tails etc and had bangs so the strip wasn't an option. I am on my 21st month!🎉🎉🎉
I believe it's Susan Barnes who started this technique..but you actually show how it's done, thank you.
Thank you! 🥰 Happy to share!
If I had dark hair, I definitely would have tried this!
Your hair is gorgeous!! 🤩
You do not have much grey at your crown, i am fully white 6my crown doesn't follow a part what do i do
This is definitely a crown trick to help with the transition. Maybe you can try some hair bands or wraps?

If it is something you want to try you can always have a colorist to it at a salon. 😘
@@ireneclaire thanks, I know that's always the safest way, and sometimes they even mess up

Did the temp color wash out pretty well?
It definitely faded h it did not come out completely.
Ty!
I just went with it now only have 3" to go but I did cut my long hair under my chin.
Yeaaah that rocks!!!!
@@ireneclaire Thanks.

Awesome! Thanks so much!!! You can start asap and keep it going until you’re ready to flip. 😊🙌🏼
How does it work if your greys are around the side of your face more than the top?
It’s really to help with the top part.

@@ShaPerera-k1y yeah, it’s totally tough to hide… maybe wear a headband or hair wrap pushed up to your hairline? That could help. 😊🩷

Can you add highlights to this strip instead of just depositing dye?
Absolutely!

Which temporary dye did you use?
Which color simi permanent dye did you use?

I only did it this once. You can play with different half up twist hairstyles or headbands to help with the transition.
