The fact that so little people in this comment don't even understand what wushu is just astounds me. Duh, it's choreographed. That's what this is meant for. And it's martial arts, so why are people criticizing it and calling it a horrible dance?
and for the competitive taichi events where it's meant to be more graceful... ppl say its too much of a dance and not enough martial arts lmaooooo

Because wushu's fun. That's like asking why someone plays soccer for their whole life and never make it to the World Cup. It's just a fun sport, and for some, it's their whole lives.

Martial should be the most important part of it, not art. Martial arts isn't meant to be put in a museum for people to pretend like they actually understand the art pieces inside of it. You prolly couldn't force yourself to purposefully leap into the air and land on your stomach, so don't judge when you prolly can't do anything like this.

They'd have significantly faster reflexes than someone who was unskilled in any type of fighting, so they could prolly dodge faster and react quicker. Doesn't guarantee that they'll win a "real" fight, but how often do people even try to pick fights with each other on the streets? Why does wushu even have to be seen as something to prepare someone for a fight? It can just be a hobby, like damn, not everything we do is supposed to prepare us for a worst-case scenario.
They are trained for real fight. Just think about it. If you have the skills for a reál fight then you can build up a coreography

Wushu's not meant to be used in any other sense, dude. It's supposed to be choreographed, that's what the competition is for.
It's just a dance not a duel. The weapons are light fake foil. This is not martial arts it is pretend. Modern wushu has pretty much destroyed TCMA with this screamy pretend fighting that whilst it may look impressive to some has nothing to do with combat and is just a gymnastics performance.
Real swordsmanship is nothing like that .
This is just screaming and bad choreography.
Then how did they all make it into the competition? This isn't as much a dance as it is martial arts. And screaming actually gets you points in some martial arts competitions.
