*Common Questions* *Why is her sword floppy?* Since this is adapted for sport and health, you want to change the weapons to be safer for practice and competition as a sport. Not only that, Taiji is regularly practiced by over a billion people, the last thing you need is these practitioners showing up to parks and gyms with real swords or anything close to it. Note, although these are made to be purposely floppy at the ends, they are counterbalanced at the hilt to be as closer to the balance weight as traditional Chinese swords. If you this seems to odd to you, think about some other sports that came from combat, such as fencing, archery, and javelin throwing . These sports use heavily modified weapons that are safer for sport practice as well. In fact, fencing swords doesn't even look like swords anymore, and are even more flexible than wushu swords. *What is this? Why is there no fighting?* This is a performance of a taiji sword form in modern wushu. This is meant to be a form and not actual combat, although the movements all derive from real techniques. All Asian martial arts had a heavy emphasis on forms training, and it was the equivalent of shadowboxing or padwork in boxing. Traditionally, forms were really used to train and demonstrate techniques, and you would practice the form and actual fighting. For wushu's adaption to sport, there is a forms division (taolu), and a fighting division (sanda). Today there's no need to fight, so many people learn the basic applications, but focus only on taolu. Wushu taolu take a style's martial techniques and builds them into aesthetically pleasing routines that epitomize the ideals of a style's philosophy. These forms showcase techniques at the highest level, but are stylized and composed for performance in a sport setting. They are meant to be entertaining and pleasing to watch, just like a high-level gymnastics or ice skating routines. Wushu taolu is judged on proper technique, power, agility, technical difficulty, and martial intent. If you're interested in actual Chinese martial arts in combat, take a look at Sanda (Chinese kickboxing): ruclips.net/video/dwM0gEpD9QY/видео.html .

It is an honor to see such a masterful display, Amazing!
Li Mu Bai would be proud!
**face of approval** 🤝
Would have been so golden if Mu Bai came floating in with a bamboo stick and started schooling her on how rubbish that green destiny sword looks! 👏🤣
🌱🤺
The real Shu Lien (character played by Michelle Yeoh in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) !
Wow! Talk about a tale of BEAUTY AND THE BLADE!!
Everything martial arts can be! The will to do the training and control each movement requires. Truly awestruck.
She protec
She attac
But most important
She know jump front kick hack
Wonderful performance.
And the amount of ignorance in the comment section made me laugh.
10/10
I am ignorance incarnate. I know absolutely dick-all nothing about this.
@@R3dp055um am with you
I can shit more than anyone! So should we make a sport about it? Curling 🥌 is the dumbest sport I have ever seen. What she is doing is an art form and in my opinion a boring one to watch.
it's cool to look at but it's not going beyond china
it's a niche
it's like Americans making a hot dog eating contest and trying to say it's an art form
it's cool but no Chinese would do this outside of china
Where?
And she gently sliced her enemies to smithereens.
not with that fake floppy sword.
TentaclePentacle Get out of here you're ruining my joke.
Nope. This is nothing more than a dance/gymnastics performance. Ask anyone with actual martial arts experience and they will count for you how many times she would die trying to pull off those moves.
@jerry xulin hahaha no. She has no clue what a real sword looks like, let alone how to use one. Modern "Tai chi" is just gymnastics sometimes with a piece of aluminum foil vaguely shaped like a sword. Excellent gymnastics, mind you, but no actual swordplay can be seen in any of this, nor any martial technique at all. Just gestures that the athlete and their choreographer invented for show and for some points in the competition
@Jezthedead yea this is why Kung Fu is in the UFC because of how effective and deadly it is lol I've done BJJ Muay Thai Boxing Karate silat and Kali she would get destroyed by a real fighter who is using a sword Kung Fu doesn't train for real life combat and nor does it pressure test its moves to see what does and doesn't work this lady wont do shit to someone
She must have an incredible physique to do these motions so controlled.
may look like only movement to a normal person, but my god is that hard to do with such elegance.
I heard modern compulsory routines had all these jump kicks. It’s Taiji-Chuan right? Still cool but what’s the application of 360 jump to landing on on one leg?
Such an amazing performance Suijin Chen
I totally agree, Wonderful Performance!!!!!! :)))
Such a beautiful lady. Such choreography.
She moves gracefully.
Does anyone know where I can find this video without the commentary?
The movements is absolutely perfect and beautiful.
She should be a jedi master in star wars.
Magnificent bout of strength, grace, control, & beauty. Tai chi
Wushu*
I watched this eating a cheeseburger with coke and fries. Dinner with a show! 😊👍
Beautiful movements and control. I have never seen this type of competition before either.
There is so many beauty in the world who just wait to be share ... This art is one of them
Wonderful performance.
Beautiful, skillful and powerful.❤️
Insert picture of me me wiggling around in bed to stand up in order to get to the fridge
How would that stack up against modern fencing?
As a martial arts practitioner, I can tell ya, this is some god damn high level, and at the end of such a long performance you're feeling like "GIMME WATER GIMME AIR I NEED TO REST AAAAAAAAAAAH"
except it's not martial arts, it's modern wushu, which ironically means "martial art" and is just gymnastics bearing a vague echo of what ancient chinese martial arts were before all the real martial artists fled from china to avoid being massacred by Mao's military.
