Song story -
In November 2022 , I was spending the least itchy parts of my days recording custom songs for people and in-between recording those… this entire chorus came to my head outta nowhere (the vocals right at the end of the song were recorded as the song came into my head so that is literally the very first time I heard the song which feels crazy and very lucky. The piano is also from the very second I came up with the idea).
The difficulty with recording custom songs for people is you read about customers’ amazing love lives and you get a bit sad…wondering where yours went and after like five weeks of this kind of work…reading people’s stories and constantly being reminded of how good my time was with the girl that once called us boyfriend and girlfriend… before she decided she didn’t want to be with someone so sick with no income (that she was possibly embarrassed about) and didn’t want to talk about her own problems to because of how different they felt suddenly when she saw my chronic disease in person….. she started appearing in all my dreams in the crowd or in random places.
At first she was always in the crowd watching as I fell over playing sport (which is weird because I don’t play sport) , watching as I played the wrong notes for a giant audience and seeming so disappointed in me.
However one night she wasn’t just at the front of the crowd, SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE in the dream living in a tiny cozy house in amongst a bunch of fields. We were living together and we had never broken up and my brain was full of memories of all that we had done in this other dimension where we’d never broke up and because we hadn’t broken up my condition hadn’t gotten way worse than previous years (and stress always causes more rashes and itching and pain) in fact I was completely cured so it was a completely different life. We had achieved all we planned during our real life relationship.
And she was so happy and I was so happy and then I woke…. And suddenly I was alone with my itching and stinging in the dark and cold and she was the opposite side of the world (to my knowledge) and it was horrendous. So lonely but I always know my only chance of getting in a relationship again is if I get cured and if I get an income so I just got up and tried to carry on working as a distraction hoping that if I worked hard enough an income would slowly come and the right song would make that happen. But it turns out the thought and sadness really was stuck in my head that day and the second I pressed stop on recording a song for a couple in America…I just started playing this song with the exact same chorus lyrics and very similar verse lyrics and the same notes.
I am so proud of this song from start to finish. The one take drums. The one take piano. This is also my first song ( I think ) where there is an outro that takes parts of the song from before and changes them slightly rather than just either repeating the chorus again, repeating the tag line or having a guitar solo.
I’m really proud of the lyrics also and the guitar solo and how the last chorus and ending really feels like going through stages of sadness.
Two years later...
I realise it's in "Health AND sickness" not just Health and I'd never leave a person because of their health troubles.
Hi James, how on earth you are not making money through your music i will never know. That song right there is much better than some chart stuff today in fact better than most! I suppose to you it is the best and worst of songs for different reasons i mean it's bad enough for you to have this horrible skin condition let alone breaking up with your girlfriend. I did think that your hands and arms looked a lot better in the video (obviously not in the small window) so i am hoping you are not quite so bad at the moment? Keep your chin up mate this damn thing hasn't taken away your pleasure of making music thank God 🙏
This video is from last year. I have uploaded 60 videos this year do far and the indoor photos where my neck is red are the recent photos
The outdoor photos by the sea are from april last year when i first switched my diet.
I tried add back in high sugar foods like apples and bananas and nuts and ignoring the rash hoping my gut would adjust and it back fired so bad and is taking ages to get back to how i was april last year.
I think its because im creating old fashioned rock.
I have to switch to pop on my other channel if im not earning a living by the end of the year.

I'm just chillin'... worked really hard for a few days, gotta go back on the road to Nashville, in the morning, and thought I'd look up that kid that could effortlessly channel Robin Trower... Enjoyed that video, as always and ended up here. You'll be alright... the light shown so bright through you so young. This may sound contrite, and over simplified, but it is heartfelt. Diet brother... so much that medically seems mysterious, especially auto-immune conditions is rooted in diet. Check it out, you eat everyday... thinking about that may hold the key. Gonna be thinking aqbout you now for days...
Oh, James, I have adored you from the beginning. I remember the first two original songs you wrote, I can't change the weather, and the other one. You have triumphed. You could have fallen to depression and given up quit. But, through your personal challenges and afflictions, you have persevered.

Thanks! I did take a big break kind of but only to try and fix my health as there was no point being alive with how bad it was. I didnt return to creating until i felt like id exhausted all possible health research. I have dark days when the itching is insane
@JamesBellx I know you don't want to hear this. But, the Bible says that our afflictions are light, compared to the eternal glory God has in store for us.
Like you, I, too, have good and bad days. We all have our trials and tribulations.
You will be healed someday. Maybe we are being tested by God.
One thing I can say, I didn't have your fortune. From the time I was about 5, I loved music. I came from a broken home, we didn't have much. My single mom, had to do both roles, and with 3 kids, we were lucky to have enough food. I didn't even get my first guitar until after high-school. By then, I had no free time because I had to worked minimum wage jobs just to get by. Again, you are inspiring to me because you keep going through your own afflictions. You know Jason Becker, right? When you are in a dark place, remember that it could be worse.
I thank you for sharing your musical talents. You did earn it. This life is like the blink of an eye. Eternity is a long time. So, keep pushing in fight the good fight. Stand up for righteous. Stay positive even in that dark night. You are actually blessed. Hollywood would have destroyed you. You have to sell your Godly morals to reach the high levels in Hollywood. I think if you actually look at these things, devil worship is now blatantly obvious. It was there all along, but much less obvious in the 50's, 60's and 70's. So perhaps you like Jason Becker were spared all the hurtful lust fame and wealth often bring. Well James, I will pray that God bring you relief from your condition.

Our afflictions often are there so we can grow spiritually in Christ and become more like Christ.

Your words about my voice being crap compared to how it sounded in my busking videos caused suicidal thoughts to be honest.
And was a very negative distraction.
And saying i should be performing i live even when im bed bound mostly also added to the low feelings so…
I hope you keep your feedback stays like this and you dont get back to that big hurtful ranting style you put on the Prince video in Hanley.
And to be honest creating isnt a distraction. When you have a disease as bad as I have you cant get rid of the pain by playing guitar sadly you have to focus on getting rid of it with diet and exercise and showers and other stuff you cant just go have fun . Very blessed people think that .
First, I apologize if what I said was hurtful. Not my intention at all. Also, I never said your voice was crap. I just said I preferred the tone in some of your earlier videos. I like a heavier sound. I like a lot of your material. I just want you to be successful and famous. I personally like a lot of progressive music.
I'm an artist. I personally have been going through some hard times myself. Everyone is dying around me. All kinds of deaths. I'm 63 so I guess that happens. No, I am not struggling as you are, but I truly have found everything other than what worries me are distractions from what worries me. Of course, I had to focus on my ailing mother and matters at hand up to when she passed recently. and straight thru to the present. That had to be done. But the distractions, whatever they were and are, kept me wanting to live and not focusing on ending it all. I've lost around 60 people since 2017, many who were very close. Taking care of my mom kept me moving forward. For the last 4 years, I've found it hard to create. I had no energy.
I've always taken suggestions and criticisms regarding my art very seriously. Sometimes, they pissed me off, but they usually made me a better artist. They make me better. The fluff doesn't. Our best teachers are often the ones who are the most critical. But they also encourage. I just noticed that when you were younger, you focused on very serious musicians and musical compositions. Suddenly, more of a pop sound began surfacing. When I first heard you play I was like ....this kids gonna be a John McLaughlin. A Schenker, a Blackmore, a Roy Buchanan. You were my new hope for the next generation of serious musicians. I still believe you are. And again, I never said your voice is "crap" or any of your music. You are a talented musician in so many ways. I just would just like for you to reach for the stars musically and become your best. I understand your illness has gotten in the way. I honestly think you're going to beat this infliction.
PLEASE don't let anything I say or anyone else make you ever want to harm yourself. You have brought me so much joy since I first discovered you. I have shared your videos with so, so many people. All in a positive light. You often ask what people like or what version of a song people like the best. I was just sharing what tones and sound I prefer having heard you previously delivering them. What I thought could pull you forward.
You are a very gifted man. I will no longer comment on anything you share. I am so sorry I have hurt you. That I hurt your feelings when you are already experiencing so much pain. suffering and emotional stress. I know you are pissed off at me. I never, ever intended to be hurtful.

I am currently recovering from colon cancer & surgery/chemotherapy.I have an ileostomy at the moment and i have to follow a low fibre diet (no wholegrains,no skins on fruit or veg,no pips.)Anything wholegrain i now know to be inflammatory in the gut.I have found any veg doesn’t digest fully but any meat or fish i find no problem with.
Also avoid vegetable & seed oils in favour of butter,or high quality extra virgin olive oil.I take a mushroom complex powder once a day in coffee and use quite a lot of cayenne pepper & turmeric which are anti-inflammatory.

It's hard to comment on this one 'cause I know how personal it is to you and its hard to listen to because of the rawness of the feelings in it. It's a really moving song but most of all I'm so glad for your final paragraph in the description. I remember reading this write-up in your other version of this song and silently wishing that you would gain that perspective at some point. So, it's a beautiful song and it's sad to me most because of the feeling that someone would need to be in perfect health to feel worthy of the one they love. Maybe there should be a part 2 where the lyrics are something along the lines of 'if you can't love me as a person in sickness and health then maybe you're not good enough for me 😎', now that would kick ass! 😀

Thank you. I dont really like vicious or bitter songs and id never say anyone else isnt good enough and I think being non chalant is more poignant . Being angry just makes my disease more painful so i just let go and try to see the good .

@@JamesBellx Yeah, that makes sense, I can't really imagine you ever writing a truly bitter or vicious song, and I really admire that about you and your songwriting. Thinking about it now I probably should have phrased that better and more sensitively. I kind of meant the song lyrics idea in a tongue in cheek way, but still, sorry about that comment if it came off as disrespectful.
What I was getting at though was that it seems to me if someone gains a perspective where their worth transcends the physical realm then that's a really positive thing and there also might be other people who see that who are in similar scenarios and could be inspired to the possibility of, 'oh right, it's not necessarily that everything rests on my physical wellness, because my heart and spirit is powerful and worthy in spite of the physical problem', that sort of thing. 🙂
In life I have learned to take one second at a time and make it the best I can. Be strong, you can and will make it through your problems. Never give up on life getting better. Even if you don't believe it's going to happen, tell yourself that it will! 🙏☮️🎸🎵🎶🎵🎸☮️
