      These are quick bikes. Great bikes really. Keep an eye on your exhaust especially the joining pipe in the middle as these rot away and replacements don't really exist..

    Hey.
    I know it's a little late, but I've only seen your video now.
    Congratulations. it's a super fun bike. I speak from experience. I have a A model from 1986.
    The air filter is mounted in a box behind what you call, an "air box", which is in fact a resonance box.
    The easiest way to remove the carburetors is to remove the rubber sleeves between the carburetors and the resonance box. It can be easily done with a long pair of pliers. Then pull them backwards and out to the right, to remove the gas cable.
    Only after you have removed the carburetors can you remove the resonant box. Not by hammering on it with a hammer, but with a little caution and tender love.
    Now when we talk about hammers, you NEVER use a steel hammer on aluminum. When I saw what you were doing with those poor carburetors, you might just as well have hammered me over the fingers with that hammer. It hurts so much to look at. Another time spray a little silicone spray on them, then they can be pressed into place by hand.
    If you do not have the strength, place a piece of wood between the aluminum item and the hammer.
    Why you want to replace the original intake system with air pods is incomprehensible. A new air filter, that is soaked in air filter oil, does the job. Air pods open a Pandora's box of problems with jets and adjustments. The only thing you get out of it is more noise, and a cheap looking bike.

      Hi, thanks for your watching and comment.
      You can follow this build on Nats Knackers yard if your interested to see how it ends. It because a very nice bike indeed.
      Nat knew how to do the airbox properly so got the bike sorted.

    This was a very entertaining video. I need to buy a chopper style at a later date for a second bike. My Thunderace is going to kill me. I'm just too mad on it. The exhaust ends of that ZL looked like they came from a 50cc with the diameter of that exit lol. Watch out for storm Dennis :(

      Yeh they are small aren't they, it's weird but they are the original ones. Although I'm thinking the holes in it need patching first. I've just been offered my old red one back so may be picking that up soon.

    Great video as always, Charlie I just wanted to let you consider a little thing that I started doing about 18 months ago. Like you I like to save the pennies when I can, but I don’t want to buy cheapo crap to achieve it. It’s with regards to the WD40, brilliant stuff but the can price keeps going up and I don’t know about you but I’ve had a couple of the new can design let me down by running out of steam whilst there is, what feels like a decent amount left in the can. Well now I’ve strung you along for a few sentences I’ll get to my tip……… (building up tension)……… have a look on line for who is doing it the cheapest, I think my last one came from Amazon, for the 5Lt container of WD40, buy from a reputable seller mind we don’t want no knock offs, oh don’t use the bottle some of the suppliers include cos it squirts and don’t vaporise like it should, Then buy a £1.00 empty spray bottle from Wilco’s (Wilkinson) and fill that. You need to look at the can volume that your currently getting and if your curious put the exact same amount in your new spray bottle. 5L lasts ages and works out so much cheaper.
    Well that’s my tip for this video. Sorry if the climax was a little bit of a let down, the only fly in the ointment is coughing up for 5L, worth it though.

      Thats a great tip, I've considered it before. Can do the same with brake cleaner and de greaser. I honest never thought I would be doing a big volume of bikes. I guess the busier I get the more I need to consider this stuff.

      Not many exist is the answer. You will need to keep yours serviced and clean as much as you can. Clean the exhaust if it's starting to look bad as it will rot.
      Great bikes though

      It's definitely tatty looking engine block and around choke. But been stored in a garage all its life and the owner rode it twice a year for 2 weeks... May have to find away of improving the block. Chrome and frame all mint just the engine area that looks worse for wear. Its faster then I was expecting I will give it that.

      You can paint the engine if needed. Would need to clean and de grease it first. But you can even get a brush on paint which still looks great.

    Is epoxy inside all eliminator model tank and they block carburettor after a while also in the fuel is only flowing if the waakum fuel filter works in the bottom of the tank....you have to replace it. Also the plug cables in the bottom of the plug must be changed....I have a 900 and 600 model and yes not even a MC shop can fix this machine so you have to learn how system works yourself

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  4 года назад

      Hi, I've checked the fuel and the fuel flow both of which is fine. I havnt checked the filter but again the fuel itself came out fine. I've orders 1 new coil and should be putting that on today, I'm praying that this solves the issues. If it runs well again thenthe rest is straight forward. It will need a small amount of work for mot and then should be ready for the road.
      Thanks for watching.

      @@motorcyclerescuer check your compression. I had a problem similar to that. When I inspected the rubber in two of the carbs I found cracks. When you take of the top of the carbs you find a vacuum chamber that controls the slides. If there is a crack it wont work right. I also had to change the electronic ignition module on mine due to a no start.

    • @AFRO_KEEN
      @AFRO_KEEN 4 года назад

      @@motorcyclerescuer Dosent seem like wiring because the coils are firing. Unfortunately the tolerances in carbs wear out over time. Mine started leaking like yours when I would forget to close the tank cutoff valve. I left the choke half way out and used it like that. I did not want to put a lot of money in it. Good luck. You will find the problem.

      That was why I sold mine after 16 years. Some of the parts you could not get anymore. I loved the bike. It was fast and easy to maneuver. A new carburetor assembly for that bike will cost more than you paid for it. I just rigged it and drove it the way it was. I had to crack the throttle and hold it there to make it run. I think I just left the choke at half way.
      With the air cleaner off look to see if the variable venturi slides are moving. They work on vacuum. With a a cheap vacuum guage and a readings chart you can diagnosiss a lot about an engine. If vacuum is low it wont run right. You will find the problem.
