  • If you feel like there have been more than the usual number of artifacts on this channel lately, you're right. I can't get enough of a good thing. I have always thought that Native American artifacts were fascinating and I love hunting for arrowheads. Every time I find a point I want to share it with y'all because the hobbies of fossils and artifacts are so closely related, I'm sure that at least some of y'all share my enthusiasm for both. For years I always wanted to collect arrowheads in Florida but I like to stay on the right side of the law so I never had the chance until just a few months ago when I found out about The Big Dig Florida, a company that leads legal Florida arrowhead hunting outings with full permission to collect on private property. I booked it for my birthday trip and it was a blast. Diva and I had so much fun we went back just a few weeks later. That wasn't the best trip ever but its hunting. There's no guarantee that just because we went with Rob and co that we would find anything but we found an insane amount of material and we saw people all around us finding stuff so we knew it was just a matter of when, not if. So we went back again, same spot as last time, the place they call the Love Site and we were ready for another chance at the plate to swing for the fences. Actually we were at the tables because we can move so much more dirt that way. Their skid steer dumps like a half cubic yard of artifact laden material in front of us and all we have to do is smash it through the grated tables and pull out the goodies. Don't hold me to that half-yard figure because I didn't measure their bucket, regardless its a big Kubota skid steer equipped with a healthy size bucket. I bet in a day we went though at least 30 buckets of that stuff, even though neither of us counted so it could have been way more. No way we could have moved that much by hand, in the heat, our backs already punished from the incessant digging for megalodon teeth at home, but you're well aware of those adventures. It couldn't have been more than 30 minutes in and Diva found a nice one. It was awesome to see her get on the board early. I was feeling the pressure to produce then but I didn't have to wait too much longer to see a superhero fall out of the sand in front of me. I yelled for Rob to come over to witness the extraction and other collectors gathered around to see what I found. I love that and I do it too. Anytime somebody finds something, everybody wants to see. It refreshes the excitement for everyone, because it could happen to any of us at any second. Whether at the tables or digging by hand, this Archaic Native American site is loaded and the potential is there for everyone to make an amazing recovery. Somebody uncapped their water bottle and poured it over my fresh find to rinse away the sand and reveal a masterpiece. Rob immediately commented on how well it was made, how thin it was. He said it was so good the Chief must have made it. I thought that was pretty funny, but it was masterfully made and was still in as good of shape as that day many thousands of years ago. The day went on and lots of people were finding stuff. I tried to include some of those videos too but I think ‪@AncientAdventures‬ probably got more footage than I did so be sure to watch her footage of this hunt. I ended up finding another one that day too and it had obvious translucence and I took a shot with the Florida sun behind it since that's what everyone does. When in Rome... Our finds continued too! I could keep typing but at some point you could just watch the video and see for yourself how incredible this trip was. Honestly, putting together this video and thinking back on how great this Florida arrowhead hunting trip was makes me want to go back. Maybe we'll see you there! I've already run into some other fossil friends on these Big Dig Florida arrowhead hunting trips so if you see us, come say hi. Regardless, we'll be there to cheer when you find something too.

    Anything over an inch would be a dart point or a spear or knife. Anything bigger would be to heavy for an arrow head. You would have to aim at the sky to hit a target just a short distance away. The point you thought might have a fire pop was a fossil or crystal pocket in the material. The points that were translucent looked like agate or corral. Great finds.

    Most of those “arrowheads” are spearheads😉. Maybe for use with an atlatl?

    You and Diva have so much fun. Great finds, love it. Do you ever wonder how long you would’ve survived if you lived in those times? You would only have the knowledge of that time in history.

      @blackriverfossils  3 месяца назад

      We do have fun and I have thought about surviving back then. I would not have made it very long because I am extremely near sighted. I couldn’t have seen anything to be able to hunt so I would have starved. Times were hard back then!

      @blackriverfossils My father and i found some indigenous tools from australia. They are completely different to your findings. Grinding stones and axe heads. One of my axeheads looks like a fossilised lung. I picked it up because it looked like it had been attached to an aorta.. Many years later, I discovered it had been used as a tool.
      Have you ever seen fascinating underground city of opals? Coober Pedy! (pronounced cooba pee-dy)

      @@ralsharp6013 congratulations on your finds they sound very interesting. I have heard of Coober Pedy and the beautiful opals from there. We watch a show called Outback Opal Hunters and they often show hunters and stones from that location. Beautiful stuff! Many years ago I traded some shark teeth for some boulder opal from Australia and it is gorgeous. It looks way better in person than it does on TV.

    I think if you messaged the guy from bone valley fossil farms that you could go on a slow day and film a video to promote the place then he would let you go in for free. That way you could stop by there while you are in florida

    Here in the backwoods of Indiana to dig is a FELONY, unless your an Archeologists. But when they dig it's to preserve history although most artifacts will NEVER BE SEEN. AND WHO KNOWS IF THEY SELL OFF ARTIFACTS DUG FROM OTHER PEOPLES PROPERTY.

    • @blackriverfossils
      @blackriverfossils  3 месяца назад

      its a felony to dig on public land in FL too, that's why the private property angle is so necessary. You can't even pick them up legally in a river there. I like the way South Carolina does it - anything goes on private property just like in FL, but in rivers its legal to collect them as long as you have hobby diver license from the state and you report the find. Indiana sounds pretty harsh as far as artifacts go - If you dug for artifacts on your own property there, is that still a felony?

    • @alanbrooke3237
      @alanbrooke3237 3 месяца назад

      @@blackriverfossils No, here it is if you are digging to find/ aquire Indian artifacts it's a FELONY regardless if it's your property or someone else's property that has given you permission.
