The console Ken and his son are playing on; looks like a combination of the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. Awesome fourth wall nod indeed. Really wish we get a well done compilation of these games on current consoles (especially the Switch).
Bit of a correction. The source for the art styles of the X-Men games would be based on the comics the shows were based on as opposed to the shows. It was their styles at the time
I love this game I was 5 at the time went to my first arcade in the 90s seeing cyclops and ryu shaking hands that made me fall in love with fighting games even more I was a fan of xmen and street fighter at the time cool you did a deep dive of one of my favorite fighting games
X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse may not have been an arcade release, but it uses Street Fighter-style move inputs, so is it really that illsuited to those controls?
I got the vs one up arcade. It’s pretty cool. How is it almost 2022 and capcom has given us nothing in the vs series? We don’t even have pocket fighter let alone marvel vs capcom 2 hd. It’s like dementia joe and his crack son are running our beloved franchise of all franchises
X-Men Vs. Street Fighter was an amazing arcade/home console game, it was the first time I saw Marvel and Capcom together, each side has there own rival character and I was very impressed by that, X-Men Vs. Street Fighter was a great fighting and thank you Top Hat Gaming Man for explaining it 👍
The X-Men vs Street Fighter art still remains as top notch. The Marvel Super Heroes game cover on the PS1 had Joe Madureira art on it and blew my little mind back then.
4:57 Technically, it’s actually the player that was active who defeated Apocalypse will face off against their teammate as the final opponent (it’s not exactly the player’s choice.)
Repeat after me: Le manège enchanté" XD DUDE! I'm following your channel since a while and i'm French (and old) so i grew up with Polux and his crew... And i can swear i never would have been able to guess, even in my wildest; sickest dreams; that you would come to mention this show... Ever, EVER! You'v intentotionaly made me VERY surprised here and it's a great one! XD Take care and keep up this awesome work you'r doing on YT, BRAVO! & MERCI! 😁
I love it! Funnily enough I mentioned it in my first ever video I uploaded on this channel too as I swear the blue cat featured in the movie turning the world blue along with the character art style as a whole inspired the look and story of the Nintendo game Earthbound. But never heard another RUclipsr mention it.
For this specific amazing video, and the "mad history" ones globally I had the chance to enjoy, from the form and the pertinence perspectives, a deserved respecful thank you. I have never read/seen such an excellent analysis work at the service of gaming passion or comics and other cultural delights of our last 50 years.
I remember I was in high school and one of my classmates was telling me about this game. And I didn’t believe him. I thought he was making it up and playing with me. And then he told me to go to an arcade and see it for myself and I did and then I was mesmerized for something like 20 minutes before even putting in the $.50 to play it
And now the X-Men in the comics are isolationist villains who can make copies of themselves when they die. Also, Cyclops and Wolverine are suddenly gay lovers.
It is interesting that you mentioned that the PlayStation cannot handle sprites as well as I thought the Gundam fighting games were very clunky and lacked that depth I expected.
The sprite work was not "inspired" by the animated series, whose animation was on par with that of a 5th grader's flip book. In fact, if you did a bit of research, you'd see that some of the larger images are one-to-one depictions from the comics.
Ironically, some of the success of X-Men vs Streetfighter may be due to Sega or America dumping the Saturn prematurely. This caused Blockbuster Video to sell off all their Saturns at like $50. So, it was possible to get a Saturn AND X-Men vs Streetfighter for about $100, as well as a ton of Blockbuster Video used games for a song. What a steal! If X-Men vs Streetfighter had a normal USA release, with the Saturn still at full price, I don't think it would have inspired many Saturn sales. As it was, it was an irresistible "killer app".
The Sega Saturn version of X-Men VS Street Fighter was arcade perfect Sega missed out on an amazing opportunity for the North American market I think the Sony Playstation version is trash 🗑 🗑 🚮 it lacks the capabilites of the Sega Saturn.
I like your video and thanks for the info I was a big fan of the Marvel vs Capcom fighting games series and it was call the vs series . the only game I didn't like was infinite I also have the Marvel vs Capcom arcade 1up cabinet !
I’ve seen these “iceberg” videos on my timeline and never watched them because I thought it was about an actual iceberg in the game which I wasn’t interested in. If I knew this is what it was about I would have watched them along time ago. 😂😂😂
Your info on Marvel desperation/prostituting their assets makes me think of all those weird Archie/Punisher crossover comics from the era. This might explain a few things as to why it exists
It takes a lot of work to draw and animate sprites. So, if they already had nice-looking sprites of a character, and they fit the game's art-style well-enough, they'd generally use them.
@@TetsuDeinonychus but they look washed out in alot of newer games or the only redraw afew and not all. It is alot a work but they are a big company not an indie outfit
Wait has there been a move-stealing character in capcom games since Rogue (and before SF5 Seth)? As in stealing the move in-battle, not a cloned character or moveset
Revitalize? The X-Men brand was at its peak in the 90s. The X-Men carried marvel for almost 3 decades. Capcom didn’t help them revitalize, that would imply that the X-Men brand was on a bit of slump. Which at that time, is completely untrue. You notice how the first crossover game was X-Men vs Street Fighter and not Avengers vs Street Fighter. That’s because back then the Avengers were a “B” team compared to the X-Men. Avengers couldn’t touch the X-Men in book sales back then.
If only there Would be game like this done now.and not using unreal engine but with More cartoon art style and it having a bunch of marvel heroes old and new and street fighter heroes
These videos are really full of info but I have to be honest they're poorly laid out. It's hard to tell when you actually start talking about the iceberg itself, what the entry is suppose to be at first, there's no overall look at whatever iceberg you're supposedly talking about, and just overall it makes absorbing what's going on really bad. You need to start each entry by announcing its title or at least showing it onscreen. Then acknowledge when you're going down a layer.

Top Hat Gaming Man, you should explain the Streets of Rage Iceberg in a future video!
Can you do a MK9 Iceberg vid please? :)
Ryu/Cyclops handshake is the most iconic video game collab artwork ever.
I totally agree. That was my computer screensaver for years.
If your discounting smash, yea
The console Ken and his son are playing on; looks like a combination of the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. Awesome fourth wall nod indeed. Really wish we get a well done compilation of these games on current consoles (especially the Switch).
I bought an imported XvSF for my Saturn from EB, it was the crown jewel of my video game collection for years.

EGM was a great magazine

My jaw dropped when I first saw this at my local roller rink when I was a kid. Probably my favorite in the series due to nostalgia
Love this game. I actually just bought it for the Saturn in order to get a 4MB RAM cart.
Not too long ago I believed one of these vids referred to a literal iceberg I'd somehow missed in game
X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse may not have been an arcade release, but it uses Street Fighter-style move inputs, so is it really that illsuited to those controls?
Glad that Arcade 1up made full sized arcade versions of those Marvel/Capcom fight games, in which X-Men vs Street Fighter is among them.
We got one the most innovative fighting crossovers in history from a desperation act…AMAZING!!! Great video Top!!!!
Funny little tidbit; when the X-men cartoon was re-run on UPN, the ending credits used footage from Japanese intro. Found it really bizarre.
Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter next?
I never knew the PS1 version was so "weak". Excellent video :D

The true golden era of Marvel video games starts with 1996.
That's a fact.
The Ken ending home console could’ve been Saturn style disc system with an extra ram pack
I first played this at a arcade back during middle school. Same spot where I use to buy my Marvel card packs! Fun times!!!
But chun-li alpha is in xmen vs sf. Hold start for 5 seconds while selecting chun-li. I think it has 3 colors as well.
Yes it’s the same with Street Fighter Alpha and Gold

Actually Chun Li Aplha costume can be played on the original game but with a secret button combination
Rogue was technically my first fighting game character. I don’t like the game overall, but I do like how she plays.
How do I unlock this character Rai-oo?
choose Ryu and hit Up twice. the just say Rai oo
wow I started to love this game after I watched previous X-Men VS Street Fighter video-history of X-Men VS Street Fighter by Top Hat Gaming Man
I never dreamed as a kid one day id actually be making these games.
What projects you've worked on? If you could let one know without breaking any NDA's...
What was that?
elaborate
Proof r it’s cap
Quit blowing smoke
Hey, Top Hat Gaming Man! Can you please explain the Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter Iceberg?
I remember I was in high school and one of my classmates was telling me about this game. And I didn’t believe him. I thought he was making it up and playing with me. And then he told me to go to an arcade and see it for myself and I did and then I was mesmerized for something like 20 minutes before even putting in the $.50 to play it
My job has this arcade 1up cabinet and I am obsessed
Fans : How deep does it goes
Cammy: Yes!
X MEN vs. Street Fighter 3
Staring: Beast, Nightcrawler, Archangel, Sonspot, Cyborg. That would be dope as fuck.
#FREEMVC2
And now the X-Men in the comics are isolationist villains who can make copies of themselves when they die. Also, Cyclops and Wolverine are suddenly gay lovers.
Iconic game. Thank you for covering it.
3rd Strike iceberg next? It could use its own iceberg 😁
I thought you had a bunch of hotdogs in your jacket pocket 😂😂😂😂
Great video mate :)
Only a legend and analyze this iceberg 😁😁😁
Top Hat, just how the heck do you do such efficient research???? Well done!
Something like this alot of bullet points followed by a lot of ellobaration!
It is interesting that you mentioned that the PlayStation cannot handle sprites as well as I thought the Gundam fighting games were very clunky and lacked that depth I expected.

My dad says Magneto has severe case of migraine that's why his head is always aching.
Do the Super Turbo Iceberg
Are you gonna do this the Darkstalkers Franchise
I don't know why but I thought there was a literal iceberg where all these stages took place.
Ironically, some of the success of X-Men vs Streetfighter may be due to Sega or America dumping the Saturn prematurely. This caused Blockbuster Video to sell off all their Saturns at like $50. happy 25th anniversary x men vs. street fighter!!! :3
13:00 🗣GET HIM OUTTA HERE! HE'S GOT AIIIIIIIDSSSSSSSSSsssssss! 🧛🏻♂️
Wait, so is the «I have a son man» Line from the Ken outtakes funny because it’s a very random line, or because it’s a deep cut?
Need to put this on Apple Arcade
gambits sprite was in the snes game mutant apocalypse before X-men vs SF
Do xmvssf Version 1 still exist?
The game came out in Germany for the sega saturn when i was there.
That was great. Lots of interesting facts.
The Sega Saturn version of X-Men VS Street Fighter was arcade perfect Sega missed out on an amazing opportunity for the North American market I think the Sony Playstation version is trash 🗑 🗑 🚮 it lacks the capabilites of the Sega Saturn.
100% agree 👍
Never knew of the 16 bit versions of x men vs street fighter.
I like your video and thanks for the info I was a big fan of the Marvel vs Capcom fighting games series and it was call the vs series . the only game I didn't like was infinite I also have the Marvel vs Capcom arcade 1up cabinet !

Things I wondered about capcom reusing sprites so much. Like why?
It takes a lot of work to draw and animate sprites. So, if they already had nice-looking sprites of a character, and they fit the game's art-style well-enough, they'd generally use them.
@@TetsuDeinonychus but they look washed out in alot of newer games or the only redraw afew and not all. It is alot a work but they are a big company not an indie outfit
15:27 you actually can select chunli in her alpha costume.
I never did defeat Magneto when I was a kid :'(
Wait has there been a move-stealing character in capcom games since Rogue (and before SF5 Seth)? As in stealing the move in-battle, not a cloned character or moveset
So Capcom helped revitalize interest in the X-Men and the Marvel Brand! Cool vid Top Hat Sensei.

@@MC-zt3wb Just going off what Top Hat said lol
I heard that the Japanese intro of the Xmen broadcast there; was animated by Capcom. Anything in your research confirm this?
kens console looks like a saturn with expansion pack
Street Fighter III....all three. As much Street Fighter III as you can Big Daddy.
This is amazing
Rogue: Bye bye sugar
One interesting thing about Akuma in X-Men:COA is that he’s the worst character to play as in the game.
Samurai Showdown!💪
If only there Would be game like this done now.and not using unreal engine but with More cartoon art style and it having a bunch of marvel heroes old and new and street fighter heroes
More iceberg pleaz
Is X-Men Vs sf more popular than marvel Vs sf?
Another banger.
I have the snes version of this game
This was an awesome game
2021 and people still say "Rai You"
How is this different from a regular episode?
I'll beat anyone as dalsim and gambit!
I accept your challenge. I only need Charlie.
That's what she said 🤣
I HATE when anime gets butchered in the west. Looks like Japan did it too in their country for X-MEN

I have received millions of comments in the past, but this is the first time I have seen such shade thrown my way. Creative trolling, top work!
That big daddy top hat thing is cringe. Just say top hat.
