Don't mind the others negative comment, I can understand what you did. And the rest leave it to creativity how people want to make the dress look awesome.
Yes, you’re right. However, beginners like me have no clue about how to fill in the gaps with creativity. We need to understand the fundamentals with step by step instruction. After that, we can use our creativity to mold this garment into something unique. She should’ve made it clear that this video was not for beginners. 🥺
So, if her directions and knowledge of sewing, I had a well-fitting linen caftan ankle length. I ignored negative comments, and had good results. Liz in MO
I loved the easy way you explained it, I am a beginner and really want to make this. From how you explained it, its simple, and my inspiration and my imagination started working again. thank you, Mo, Your name doesn't do you justice. You are a beautiful young lady.
Now that was a really easy and straightforward presentation I just wish you had shown what it looked like on you or a mannequin. This was the best presentation yet!
Ok, so that's a tunic top? Also, what about the neck? How was that finished off? Then we didn't see the finished article properly, nor see it being worn
I think she just was trying to wing it but she just had no idea about how to really present it. U can't fake something u don't know. That's from personal experience. That material is way way too thick anyway and it's extremely opposite from what she suggested in the beginning
@@laurel1865 This is not a proper caftan. Caftan (aslo known as Kaftan) traditionally has an opening in the front and is definitely more like an abaya. Oh, and caftan is not called a tunic and is not one. Please don't misinform people.
Don’t worry Alicia.... it’s me too, and a whole bunch of other people who watched this bunch of baloney. The only ppl who gave positive comments are probably her friends from sewing class (who she paid to say something nice)..
Why didn’t you make it clear that this video is not designed for beginners ? It’s designed for the intermediate sewer, who knows the basics of sewing, and therefore can add their own touch of creativity to the project, and fill in any gaps missing from the tutorial (if you can call it that).
Started well but went downhill with skates on!. More like a simple boxy top with shapeless neck and sleeves rather than a Kaftan. If you take the time to do something then you may as well do it well and finish it.
It would have made sense to actually show the finished result (either at the beginning or the end) so one knows what the end product looks like, this way, I'm afraid, hardly anyone would want to try it!
Just saying but this is not a caftan. This is a tunic. Caftan (in my tradition) is open on the front and is worn on top of a (usually) white dress for women. And there are no scarfs involved lol. I guess it kinda looks like a kids caftan? Hmm... Well, if you don't care about being historically accurate you can roll with it but I'd say it still looks more like a tunic than a caftan :/
This has nothing to do with moroccan caftans and takshitas whatsoever. And that fabric is hideous, it would never ever be used for a caftan unless you re at some cheap tourist gift shop. Just google Lalla Slama caftan, the former princess, and you ll see what a real caftan looks like. That s what you see at moroccan parties as well.
They are called tunics, kaftans and or even moroccan styled wear in America. They all vary from abaya looking dresses to real Kaftan formal dresses. They are taking an Arabic word, Arabic style of dress and americanizing it. So ....please.
she says to measure the widest part of you and then take a 1/4 of that and that is the minimum of how wide you dress needs to be ???!!! Who will fit into minimum 1/4 of their widest part? This is ridiculous.
Really horrible directions....She cannot sew...She should have then put it on it would look like the neck hole comes off her shoulders and down to her waist...HA HA HA!
Easiest directions I found. But I'd like to see it on you! Thanks!
I’ve watched so many videos and no one explained the orientation of the folded fabric relative to my body as well as you did. Thank you!
Thank you, Mo for sharing. I can work from your basic pattern and "imagine/create" from there.
I reckon you might have to do an awful lot of imagining with this thing. 😳
Don't mind the others negative comment, I can understand what you did. And the rest leave it to creativity how people want to make the dress look awesome.
It’s gonna take a lot of creativity to turn this shift tunic into something resembling clothing !

Yeah, well if you follow her instructions you end up with, um, something. Not sure what though 🤔. Not a kaftan.
That looked more like a short T-tunic to me? I wish you had tried it on so we could see how it looks finished and on a body.
I know, right. Not a kaftan. 🤔

Yes ji agree the very best
this was not helpful to me....
Me either 😭
Looks way too easy. . ! Thanks for sharing your talent with us.!
Greetings from Bakersfield, California
Now that was a really easy and straightforward presentation I just wish you had shown what it looked like on you or a mannequin. This was the best presentation yet!
Suspiciously easy ! It looks like a boring, horrible dress you wouldn’t want to be seen dead in. 🤪
Ok, so that's a tunic top? Also, what about the neck? How was that finished off? Then we didn't see the finished article properly, nor see it being worn
I know, right 🙄. Too much missing.
I wish she could wear it because it looks so cool and i will like to make it longer for a beach look
how much of material in total did you use
Love it and looks easy as I am not a sewer...lol I don't get along with my sewing machine.. lol
How many yards did you use
Who didn't like your vid? I thought it was very well done.
Whoever knows what kaftan actually is😒
@@sadiaq1693 exactly !👍

Right on !
That's a T shirt :-D Why did you cut so much ? It's better to keep the whole width of the fabric
uuhhh would have been nice if you had modeled your katana?? nice job
This is a tunic! kaftan you don't cut out the sides - just sew up to the armholes opening! is this just me?
You are absolutely right Alicia :-)
Its a kind of a caftan. Caftan is not one kind.
It's definitely just you. It's a Kaftan. It is also called a tunic. I think you want an abaya or a poncho.

Awful! The neck miles too big, not helpful about finishing.waste of time.
Measure from the top of the shoulder down to a comfortable part of the armpit ? lol

Thanks for the video!
Lets just say she has a lot to learn about sewing!
Yep! Actually, anyone can sew, but not anyone can make a pattern. It’s called tailoring, or dressmaking.
Explained it the best
What about the neckline ? Did I miss that bit or did she just leave it cut and unfinished
No of course not mo assumes correctly that people know the basics of sewing. And leaves the rest to your imagination

What does she mean measure a 1/4 and thats what your min. width is? How about I just double my caboose?
Measure from the top of the shoulder down to a comfortable part of the armpit ?
Would've loved to see it on. This looks nothing like the description. .
Would be nice if you actually showed us what the finished product looks like >.
I agree with you Charotte. Bcoz I can't see it becoming a caftan. Or maybe it's just me...
@@caftandress , not just you ! Just about everyone 😬
Lol, that wasn't a kaftan dress at all!

She did not press it out and show the finished project at all. What is the point of that?
The length and width you want
Searsh on Google about caftan dear
Good advice. I’m not sure where she’s coming from. It’s a dress, lady, a DRESS, and not a nice one either. 🙄
Thank you But I cant See it
Thank you but no thank you !

Sorry mam bt I think you don't know how to stitch kaftan
When you make a dress or shirt or anything, model it.
Yeah ! Even a kaftan... 🤪
Would have like to see that on you or a dress form. That neck hole looked too large.
Mine will be long to the floor....
"2 little, like, large buttonholes...." Sheez.
Thanks
.... for nothing !
what you made has nothing to do with Kaftans just find an other name for what you are making plsssssssssssssssssssssss

Unfortunately, whatever it is, who the hell knows ! And even if you knew, why would you wear it ? 🙄😂
This needed to have a after shot correctly of the finished dress and or on a dress form or model. Sad
Tunic top...
she says to measure the widest part of you and then take a 1/4 of that and that is the minimum of how wide you dress needs to be ???!!! Who will fit into minimum 1/4 of their widest part? This is ridiculous.
The fabric is folded in quarters, so when it's unfolded that 1/4 measurement will be the full width.
It's FOLDED
Ummmm, what did I just see ? This is a joke, right ? 🥸
This is not a caftan baby
good grief.
That’s called a tunic (not a kaftan)
Ok 👌
she does not know what a caftan is .
i agree
Uhm. No
i dont know what to say !
Try, ... WTF ? 😬
what about the neck?!!!!!!!
Hhhhh she wears in top lol
HA HA HA The neck hole is ridiculous...she should have put it on after sewing....Please don't follow this video...she cannot sew!
She’s got no idea. It was a stretch to sew the sides, let alone the neck !
Not much of a lesson really.
It’s terrible !
That's a very ugly kaftan and ugly fabric too, sorry I'm honest!
nothing personal
مافهنة شي
baby cotan frokes
it is not a caftan
Seriously PLEASE remove this video it s an insult to moroccan caftan's luxury.
Best idea I’ve heard yet ! This chick must be high on valium or something 🤔🤪
I think this must be the worst ‘thing’ I have ever made 😠
شني هو هذا خياط ويع من العراق هههههههه. .......
this is not kaftan... nd its too bad

LoL. Exactly what I said !🤪🤪🤪
I suggest she take this demonstration off RUclips as it is a waste of time and material.
absolute rubbish
LoL 😂. That sums it up perfectly.
So Bad... Teaching is not her strong area that's obvious
Phedra Gremillon pattern too
Not to mention pattern making !
terrible!!!!
