Hello! I just wanted to say that a dlc for OW is comming in september, could you do a review of it after playing it? Sorry if you feel pressured to do so, just I thought it would be cool!
POV: You are watching this video because you already went through all the outer wilds content you could find months ago and just want to hear people talk about the game more
"It is the textbook definition of 'I wish I could wipe my memory and replay it again'" is the exact feeling I had when I beat the game the first time, it's such a great experience.
Seriously, anyone have any theoretical memory wipe techniques? This is one of those amazing experiences that is THAT epic it manages to beg the question: how do we go about consuming this multiple times as if it were new???
I 100% ended my first playthrough with a celebratory toast of my favorite bourbon and tears rolling down my cheeks This game was an absolute masterpiece from start to finish
I love the idea of someone being like "you think I have time to roast a few marshmallows?" "Before?" "The sun explodes and kills us all." (Shocked pikachu face)
I love how the confusion between "The Outer Worlds" and "Outer Wilds" is so strong that, despite specifically mentioning the confusion, you (and everyone else lol) still call it "The Outer Wilds" even though the word "The" _is_ _not_ _in_ _the_ _title_ _and_ _never_ _was_
yeah lmao whenever i make a comment on outer wilds on a video not specifically about outer wilds i always add "(not to be confused with the Outer Worlds)" can't let people think I'm talking about a masterpiece and going on over to Bioshock to buy it lol
@@benschmitt7035 I love that even *Wikipedia* has a footnote saying "not to be confused with The Outer Worlds", honestly it's a god damn meme at this point lmao.
It's honestly crazy to me how the whole Quantum Moon arc is completely optional. Everything about it is super interesting but none of it is required to reach the end of the game.
Yeah and as if that wasn’t enough if you DO do the quantum moon the ending includes solanium, same with echoes of the eye and the prisoner it adds so much reward and I was so glad to see the bird and goat after doing echoes of the eye and quantum moon
Yup, in fact I didn't hit up the Quantum Moon before beating the game on my first playthrough because I couldn't figure out how to get into the #$%^ing Tower of Quantum Knowledge lol
@@MamaSymphonia you mean the one on brittle hollow? Same here. *SPOILERS (including the solution)* I literally lucked into it. I was sitting there at the bottom of the tower, trying to figure out any way i could somehow slingshot myself upwards enough using the two gravity walls or if i could do some weird quantum imaging shenanigans to teleport myself up there or make some hidden path appear, when suddenly i started seeing the ceiling get further away and a few seconds later i saw warping in my peripheral vision and then boom, i was all the way out next to the white hole station, along with the quantum tower, so i jetpacked my way there and checked everything i needed to read. I felt like i somehow cheated the system and got cheated at the same time, it wasn't fun like other times where you find an exploit or solve a puzzle. Somehow it felt unsatisfying because it wasn't really the solution that the nomai intended, unlike on the tower at giant's deep. The best part about it is that i was playing while my roommate (who had already beaten the game) was watching, and he told me that figuring out the solution was one of the coolest moments of the game for him so he was incredibly pissed that i just lucked into the solution and even more pissed that i wasn't even happy about it. Actually i lucked into *a lot* of solutions to various puzzles and solved quite a few navigation challenges by going in a random direction and happening to find the right path. My buddy was slightly angry for most of the playthrough, but at least my luck was compensated by my absolute blindness when trying to look for specific things or clues.
I remember playing it in 2015 when nerd cubed showcased it. When it came out it felt really familiar, but my memories didn't believe it was the same game even though it's one of the videos that stuck with me the most over the years.
My reaction to this video is split between elation that this masterpiece of a game is being recognized and uncontrollable sobbing as the nostalgia breaks a table over my head
Outer Wilds captures the best feelings of films like Sunshine and Arrival and puts you right in the middle of them. It's insane how significant each discovery can feel in this game.
The interior of the Sun Station reminds me a LOT of the observation room on Icarus 1 and 2... I don't think it's a coincidence? I mean... consider what the Sun Station's objective was, and what the Objective of the ship in Sunshine was.
Damn straight this is one of the best as Sci-Fi games every made. Funny thing, the only reason I picked up and finished this game was because I randomly got recommended the Traveler’s theme with the different instruments mixed in at different times. If you haven’t played it, do it now.
Everytime the end loop song runs, I have a feeling in my heart that is very special, because I’ve heard that song so many times in the end loop context. It feels so sad and so beautiful at the same time and you can clearly get how conditioned the brain is to this kind of thing. And they did a fantastic job with this song when you « do the thing » to end the game and then that music theme completely changes and becomes synthwave-ish, because you KNOW that you are doing something important with the universe at this time. It gives me massive goosebumps even months after finishing the game. Oh and, the original was already perfect, but the DLC is even more.
I'd like to thank you, Bricky, for introducing me to easily one of my favorite games I've played in the longest time. I trusted you and went into the game blind and I do not regret it to this day, thanks for adding a new title to my list of favorites!!! In Bricky we trust!!
For me, it's the Sun Station. All this time, you're thinking that the endgame is gonna be figuring out how to stop the sun from going supernova, wondering if the Nomai have something to do with its rapid deterioration, but then you get there and you realize that, no, the sun's not being killed, it's just... Dying. There's nothing you, or anyone, can do to stop it. It's soul-crushing, and then, when the realization sinks in of what you have to do... Fuck. As an aside, I love the subversion of the Nomai being a super technologically advanced precursor race who _aren't_ amoral, or even arrogant. They're logic and knowledge-driven, yes, but they still value caution, ethics, and each other. Hell, we even see them flirting with each other and cracking bad puns. They literally did nothing wrong, they're just adorkable scientists, and their extinction is a pure tragedy, not some Icarus-esque cautionary tale.
Easily one of my all time favorite games, thanks so much for doing it justice! Fun fact. On occasion when you wake up in Timber Hearth at the start of a loop, you can see the Quantum Moon. When your character blinks as part of the wake-up cycle, they're no longer observing it and it vanishes. A crazy touch but perfectly shows why I love this game so much.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. I found it at a moment in my life where I needed it the most, not to mention I love piecing things together. Love that it’s getting more recognition
Probably the best review I've found. You've done a great job of encouraging people to play for the right reasons, avoiding most of the big spoilers, and warning before touching on a larger spoiler. Thank you! I feel like I can comfortably share this with my friends who haven't played it yet.
This game is definitely more terrifying the more you know about space. I was SUPER hesitant to enter giant's deep the first time playing because I assumed it was like real life gas giants, where you enter it and then quickly fall to the core, crushing you to death under the pressure
This game helped me through the first quarantine in my country. It gave me a little solace in doing the same thing day after day after day and showed me, that it is not wrong to find nothing new in this loop or this new day. There are more loops coming and if you enjoy the time you spend, this time is not wasted. To this day i can't hear the soundtrack of this game without it sending shivers down my spine. I hope everyone is doing well with the situation of the world. Just try to slow down, roast a marshmellow and enjoy the moment for a bit before getting back into this mess we call 2021.
Life isn't too bad all things considered. People love to revel and doom and gloom they get a weird sense of enjoyment out of it. Negative bunch they are.
Outer wilds has always been and will always be my favorite game of all time. I started playing it when I was going through a horrible point in my life and this game gave me so much to enjoy and helped me forget about the world. I still go back to just watch the world I once explored and it’s 1000% worth it.
the little detail of having the piano tune accompany the traveller's theme *just* after you explained the secrets of the quantum moon was perfect. i love the attention you put in that little moment alone!
Not watching this video because of spoilers, but it's now been 2 years. I've known about this gem's existence, and I've kept it safe, for a day where I will NEED to play a good game. One day, I'll launch Outer Wilds, but not yet. Not yet.
it's not often that the best part of a game is a simple conversation. But man I nearly cried just from *seeing* the Nomai. And I was on the edge of my seat from the prospect of being able to have even just a basic conversation with them.
It was Gavin on the RT Podcast that recommended this game for me and I absolutely fell in love with it. Took around 40 hours to enjoy and Platinum. Sooo worth the money and easily one of my favourite games ever made.
The first way I died I didn't even leave my planet, in fact I didn't even get the launch codes yet. I got up to a railing high up in the air, and I don't know how, but I ACCIDENTALLY fell down. The hilarious thing was my memories that were replaying were literally just me wandering around confused, especially in the zero-g cave.
I am so grateful that I saw this video and like 10 minutes of the first video of the playthrough. I stopped it, I held myself back, to first finish my midterms and now I finished the game. It's amazing, just simply beautiful. Thank you.
It's honestly one of the most heartbreaking things to find everything there is to find in this game not because the story is sad but because like bricky said there's no hand holding story no items or upgrades no set path to follow. So once you know everything the game has to teach you that's it. You can't rediscover the experience of playing the game you can only do a nostalgic tour of the things you already know.
An interesting thing I found out by accident: if you stay on the main menu for a whole eventually the “wilds” part of the title will break apart and float away and I think the “outer” part starts shrinking as well, and I discovered this when I went to get myself something to drink, I love this game so much
10/10 tried to land on the moon, moon disappears from beneath me, landing trajectory has me looking directly into the sun now, I go through all 8 stages of grief as my thrusters are slowly overpowered by the sun's immense gravitational pull dragging me in.
I love this game and I will never be able to play it. Not because I already have watched it a couple of times and I know the plot, but because not only am I afraid of heights, I also am afraid of depth.. as in deep space.. or deep water.. it's a borderline phobia that keeps me away from enjoying subnautica as well because I just get paralyzed. It is much more scary to me than any horror game. This is not a critique at the game, I just felt like sharing this it is one of my favorite games to watch. At least I can support the devs by buying the game..
I feel sad knowing that I only watched the game back with the Epic games store release in June 2019 and the game has such an impact than I can’t forget all the moments even though I wish I could reset this piece of memory just to play and experience it myself again
Finally. I started watching this video when it came out, went and bought the game a month later, started playing it, didn't enjoy that much/didn't click with me, didn't play it for around 7 months, bought mass effect legendary edition for Christmas (which fits the credits weirdly well), picked the game back up, played it for 3 days and here I am finally watching the video on the same night I beat the game. 9 months of waiting for 20min of Bricky's opinion. Worth it.
Fun fact: The concept for this game was originally for a student thesis project in college, but it won so many IGF awards that they decided to develop the game more, then Annapurna came along and wanted to rework the visuals to what they are now and publish it. There's a rly good documentary on the making of this game. If you haven't seen it yet, I rly recommend it. It shows just how effective even the smallest or most random ideas can be if you pour your heart and soul into them.
Came to this video after finishing the game; seriously has to be one of my favorite games of all time. It feels so unique and when you finally find the piece of the puzzle you've been looking for and figure out some hidden area or solve some puzzle, it feels IMMENSELY rewarding. The ending gave me chills and I urge everyone to play this. GOD I wish I could wipe my memory and experience it all again.
I started your video this morning, then you said to give the game a try. So I bought it and finished it in the same day, now I'm back for the other 2 thirds of the video !
This game made me fucking cry. It made me cry so hard, the soundtrack can still make me cry. No, I'm not a girl. I'm a former infantryman with combat experience, I've buried more friends than most, and I've experienced seven different levels of Hell on this Earth. And this game forces me to cry. It's still my favorite game.
Every time i hear that banjo theme i tear up, bittersweet tears. Happy at the memory of playing the game, melancholy for the inevitable end of everything and joy for the experience before it, and saddened by never being able to experience the game for the for first time.
man i truly needed floor time after finishing this game for the first time. straight up had to reevaluate my entire existance by laying down on the floor
I am currently a whopping 1 minute and 40 seconds into the video and I already know that Bricky is going to make me buy it ;) Edit: *Sigh* I now just got to the part where Bricky tells me to trust him and play the game first and watch the video after and from my experience of watching Brickys other game review videos I am pretty positive that he knows what he's talking about.................................................................................................................................I bought the game :) (hope you no lie Bricky!)
Alright bricky... Skill Up gushed about this game and I watched it in passing while at work. I'll gamble some money and try it out without finishing your video
Outerwilds is my favorite game the experience of playing it blind was a truly unforgettable experince. The lore, the unique mechanics on each world, even dark bramble was a joy to explore.
Yhe moment I saw Esker *there* my jaw dropped. I was so happy to see him for some reason. Even though I only ever visited him once, that whistling cowpoke immediately became memorable to me. He's like the grandad I wish I had.
I have played this game, and watched several people play this game. Everytime it finishes I cry, good tears but I cry none the less. Can't wait to see what these guys do next
Honestly one of my favourite things in this game is giving each of the characters unique, crazy voices that always felt like it would fit the characters and their personalities.
I just finished the DLC and look forward to seeing your thoughts on it. Your base game review was one of the best I've seen and I'm sure you'll love dlc as much as I do!!
Great intro! That's definitely how I always felt trying to uncover the last bit of info before the world ended again. I avoided all spoilers and info about the game, and went into it just knowing that everyone loved it, for some reason. I was not disappointed, it's just great, and gets better and better as you play it.
This game looks amazing. I love space. I took in all the Astronomy /cosmology I could in college. There’s something about learning about the universe that gives you such an awe-some feeling. It literally brings tears to my eyes. Idk why. It’s like the universe is conscious & looking back at itself. Learning. Even just visually it is absolutely stunning. I can’t even. If there are space faring humans one day, they’ll be the luckiest ever.
This game changed me in so many ways, it was such a beautiful experience. I think I cried three times during my play through. It took me almost 40 hours but I also streamed it on Twitch and had a few hilarious deaths that slowed me down substantially. I wanted to try and 100% it too (which I didn't but that just means I can go back). Also... I need your hoodie please.
I had this moment on the sun station where alot of the information finally clicked and as the aun began expanding and the eerie song played. Genuinely my favorite moment in gaming ive had in awhile
You hit the nail on the head many times, but I want to shout out about your part regarding Fear. Yes, so many of those environments instill a sense of fear, anxiety, or urgency despite the fact that dying doesn't' matter. Amazing game.
I am not lying, the outer wilds is the most terrifing game i have played in my life. Not because it's really scary with jumpscares or stuff like that but because of what the game is saying. I feel like no games, not even no man sky, was able to show you the real meaning of being in space like outer wilds did. Space is beautiful but also, the scariest shit ever. My first run of this game was almost like yours but the way i died was because of the supernova when the sun exploded and i remember, i stopped the game, just sat there for 10 minutes and the only thing in my head was " The sun exploded... I died... everything died... ... ... " This game legit gave me an existential crisis XD. Another run, I was stuck in space, stuck in the dark void with no fuel to move, no ship, no planet next to me, so i just had to wait, wait for the sun to kill me. I looked at it, looked at everything, i was looking at the hollow planet getting destroyed by it's moon, looking at the planet hourglass losing more and more water, hearing the music of my fellow spaceman with my radio, and then finally, the end.
I’ve finished the game this morning and every time I hear the campfire theme throughout your video I just wanna burst into tears thinking about that sublime ending again

It was Gavin on the RT Podcast that recommended this game for me and I absolutely fell in love with it.
Took around 40 hours to enjoy and Platinum. Sooo worth the money and easily one of my favourite games ever made.
What's the point of "Outer Wilds"? What are you supposed to do?
I need more episodes of bricky recommending me obscure games. I loved dark wood and i think I'll play this one too.
Thank you for bringing more attention to this masterpiece. It deserves it
I am so grateful that I saw this video and like 10 minutes of the first video of the playthrough. I stopped it, I held myself back, to first finish my midterms and now I finished the game. It's amazing, just simply beautiful. Thank you.
I am so glad that i stopped watching the video some minutes in and played the game, 2 years after. Totaly worth it.
Excellent video as always Bricky, and thanks for giving this underrated masterpiece some much needed media coverage.
I haven't finished this game yet, so I'll come back later bricky! (From what I've played so far the praise is definitely well earned)
Finish it, it's my favorite game after beating it, the ending is amazing
Yeah so i got distracted for a bit cause of life, but probably one of my top 5 games. I teared up at the end its beautiful.
@@devlinsheehan9665 DLC time my dude.
An interesting thing I found out by accident: if you stay on the main menu for a whole eventually the “wilds” part of the title will break apart and float away and I think the “outer” part starts shrinking as well, and I discovered this when I went to get myself something to drink, I love this game so much
Thank you for talking about this one, so underrated, ez top 5 favorite games ever
10/10 tried to land on the moon, moon disappears from beneath me, landing trajectory has me looking directly into the sun now, I go through all 8 stages of grief as my thrusters are slowly overpowered by the sun's immense gravitational pull dragging me in.
So all of his recommendations have hit so far.
4:55 i haven't played this game, but that little snippet of music gave me chills like no music ever has. Getting this game now thank you very much
My boi Bricky pumping out the quality content
Best thing about having short memory I keep forgetting things to be able to replay the game, the worst thing about having short memory dark bramble.
By the way, its on sale right now for 40% off on Steam!
This is one of my favorite game of all time. I've pushed so many friends into playing this and I love watching their playthroughs.
I'm sorry, but there's no way Bricky uploaded 2 videos within 2 weeks
ngl kinda sus
I played outer wilds and loved it. I played outer wilds and the dlc on vr and can't go back to normal life anymore
Ok, I trust you Bricky. See you again on this video after I get the game at some point.
Worth it.
Stop. Turn this video off. Go play the game. You wont regret it.
Hey...thanks. (Pretty sure you know why, saw this comment a while back and I'm glad I did.)
It feels so awesome when one of your favorite youtubers acknowledges one of you favorite games
I'd give anything just to experience the first time I ignited the engines and soared into space with flaming wings again
This game's Subnautica tier on the perfect sci-fi scale. That's a good thing.
I'm so glad you talked about this game, I couldn't find any real video's on how amazing this game was. Glad to have found you!
There are like 80 different video essays you can watch lol
Dark bramble makes me fear genuine terror
I started your video this morning, then you said to give the game a try. So I bought it and finished it in the same day, now I'm back for the other 2 thirds of the video !
I trust you. this video will remain at 4:50 for as long as neccessary. See you on the other side
Godspeed... Or lack thereof
Sooo how was it?
This game made me fucking cry. It made me cry so hard, the soundtrack can still make me cry.
No, I'm not a girl. I'm a former infantryman with combat experience, I've buried more friends than most, and I've experienced seven different levels of Hell on this Earth. And this game forces me to cry.
It's still my favorite game.
one minor correction, but every single hearthian goes by They! they're a genderless species
I didn’t even know that
Every time i hear that banjo theme i tear up, bittersweet tears. Happy at the memory of playing the game, melancholy for the inevitable end of everything and joy for the experience before it, and saddened by never being able to experience the game for the for first time.
Well... turning off to go play the game... will have to revisit later I guess :p
Have fun
And happy exploring
man i truly needed floor time after finishing this game for the first time. straight up had to reevaluate my entire existance by laying down on the floor
I am currently a whopping 1 minute and 40 seconds into the video and I already know that Bricky is going to make me buy it ;)
Edit: *Sigh* I now just got to the part where Bricky tells me to trust him and play the game first and watch the video after and from my experience of watching Brickys other game review videos I am pretty positive that he knows what he's talking about.................................................................................................................................I bought the game :) (hope you no lie Bricky!)
He doesnt lie
He doesn’t, I beat the game months ago and I still think about it every day
I trusted you, I turned the video off, I played the game. That was one of the best games I have ever played. Thank you.
Alright bricky... Skill Up gushed about this game and I watched it in passing while at work. I'll gamble some money and try it out without finishing your video
So... did u like it?
Legend has it they are playing to this day.
Outerwilds is my favorite game the experience of playing it blind was a truly unforgettable experince. The lore, the unique mechanics on each world, even dark bramble was a joy to explore.
So this is what the early comment section looks like huh?
Have you heard about the new restaurant called ‘Karma?’ There’s no menu-you get what you deserve.
The outer wilds is an absolute masterpiece and even the existential dread that comes from dark brambles mere existence can't change that
I just finished the DLC and look forward to seeing your thoughts on it.
Stopped around the 4 minute mark, trusted your words and just got the game. Did not disappoint. Thanks!!!
You can’t hit me with traveller’s theme like that
Coming up on two years since I first played this game.....I still think about it alot.
Every single Let's Play I watch still makes me cry at the end.
Yo I just wanna say I love that you put chapters on the video bar, I love that shit
4:14 taking your word for it.
I’ll be back in a month.
