Are you gonna post the vod? I didn't get to watch you play it on twitch, because I was playing it myself, but I'd love to be able to watch you play through it!
That's exactly what I loved in the [Spooky Deer]s... they just want you to get out of their property. And only harm you if they cannot make you go away. *MINOR SPOILER* . . . . . . . . If you're caught by the owlkin, they will examine you, then extinguish your lantern, effectively booting you out of their region. If you do not have a lantern, they will snap your neck. With one hand. What a chad. Note that this is if they caught you - but until then, they are watching you...try to get a better view... trying to flank you, since, you are flashing a lantern into their eyes, they can't make it out if you are friend or foe. A player in another comment wrote that one owl actually stopped at a certain distance - while another flanked them. This is compared to the Anglerfish, who are EXTREMELY territorial animals who will KILL ON SIGHT.
My favorite bit of this DLC was immediately after finding The Stranger and seeing that I couldn't translate the language (before finding the slide reels,) I went back to Hal at the Observatory and told them I found a new alien language, asked them if they could translate it, and they just said something along the lines of "Incredible! A new alien language! Sure, I can adapt the translator tool to read it, I just need a few hundred samples, some kind of epigraphical codex, and six months, and by then i should have some idea of where to start!"
@@lunarwings4481 fun fact: there’s actually (at least)2 unlinked statues! (Semi spoilers: One is in the place with the gravitational anomaly, the other is in the place where the answers are held.
@@lunarwings4481 You can't make the statues link anybody anymore. They automatically did it when they found the Eye's coordinate. You just happened to be exiting the museum at that very moment. Gabro got linked at the same moment.
I almost started to play this game on my own but then decided to play it with my friend and explore the game together. We both loved it and wouldn’t shut up about it
And the other pain is that you can't replay it until you've forgotten at least half of it. But it was so good, it's hard to forget. You'll never get those awe inspiring moments on a second play-through.
I never can really pick a favorite anything... but outer wilds changed that with this dlc. No other game has ever reached such a fucking coital connection between narrative, player emotions, gameplay and level design.
@@joaquinbaume1291 What a fucking dream team. Rain world is so good. Gotta say I've had a hard time continuing Disco Elysium though, game makes me feel like garbage lmao
When I first entered the "dark world" and got to the huge village, entered a house and heard FOOTSTEPS above me. FOOTSTEPS IN OUTER WILDS. That was the moment I pissed myself and fell in love with the game simultaneously And yes, I'm calling the dlc a game cause it is like a game
I was 100% convinced it was just a scripted sound. Because its outer wilds after all its not a horror game! But then... later I ran into an owl directly after a corner. :I I never expected a jumpscare
Same! I realized there was no one there so I just kept exploring, got to the big house and saw the guy MOVING while watching that reel. Started thinking then about how maybe it wasn't a scripted sound after all. After that I got to the swamp thing and that was the first time I got caught. Then I knew there were creatures and when I turned of the lights in the village and heard those terrifying screams as well as the lifts moving. I knew it wasn't just a scripted sound.
I almost cried of pure awe when I saw the inside of The Stranger. I was worried that the DLC wasn't gonna be as good or capture the same feelings as the base game. My faith in Mobius was tested and I failed. Fucking masterpiece. Best game I've ever played
This DLC cemented Outer Wilds as my favorite game of all time, beating out Breath of the Wild. It's very different from the main game in both story and gameplay, but the way it connects back to the main narrative is so emotionally powerful that the game doesn't feel complete without it now. It's like a piece of the puzzle you never knew you were missing. Hang a copy of this game in the Louvre. Outer Wilds is the game of the year for all time.
Same for me. I do have some criticism with it (*cough* stealth mechanics / total darkness *cough*), but overall this DLC turned out so much better than it had any right to be. Most importantly, it perfectly captured that magical exploration atmosphere of your first base game playthrough while also fitting in really well into the grand narrative without feeling tacked on at all.
7:30 Apparently the devs had an issue where the Stranger's inhabitants were considered too friendly-looking in the paintings. So they had to spook 'em up a bit. Players naturally wanted to be their friend instead of having the expected apprehension
Personally I like that dissonance. They seem chill in the paintings but also they seem so much more intimidating from the perspective of the slide reels and when you get to the other world. Not knowing if they're chill makes that tension so much stronger to me.
@@samhescott348 i remember seeing the scratched-out portrait of the Prisoner and all i could think was "oh God what did that one DO that made all the others hate it?" And the answer is.. he let the Eye echo out into the universe one last time.
@@artemis_smith it’s honestly a really cool existentialist storyline. If YOU were to find out that the universe was about to end, what would YOU do? Curl up into a ball and cry, or just pretend it isn’t happening?
@@samhescott348 the entire game is a pretty much perfect metaphor for grieving and letting go. It's a big metaphor for giving up the fear of death, for embracing how short life is, for living life to the fullest. The Strangers/Owlks/Pursuers refused to just let go. They sacrificed everything to get to the Eye. Then when they found it, they were so scared of the final step that they tried to live in denial, tried to hide the truth from everyone else. Their sacrifice, their attempt to save the universe, almost doomed the universe.
Came home to my boyfriend and our roommate playing the DLC last week. I had never heard of Outer Wilds before (I almost exclusively play Nintendo) and they immediately paused the game and told me to leave and go play it 'blind'. So I did. And holy shit. Outer Wilds grabbed me by the heart. I don't think I've ever cried at the end of a game before. I had to sob into my hands for a couple minutes because I was so overcome with emotion. Beautiful story, seriously the best game I have played
Are you sure they were just playing? just kidding 😂 Yeah, I've seen a lot of playthroughs where the streamer cried at the end regardless if it's a boy or girl 😄
This game did something no other game's done to me. It made me seriously consider pursuing game development as a career. The sheer amount of creativity and passion the folks at Mobius have is just mind-blowing. There's surely a lot of work behind this, but the fact they are such a small team means everyone is able to seriously shape how the final product turns out. Man, that's gotta be so rewarding! Wish them all the best and hope their next experience turns out just as amazing ::D
the topic you mentioned about the darkness is "coded", actually, it's the other way around! Most games use ambient light to make sure there is a color given from an object. But they've just outright removed the ambient lighting..!
Yeah, they effectively forced black crush, which is the way it should be for real darkness. I play a lot of Hunt Showdown and the low-level ambient light, even the darkest areas, allows certain sweaty players to crank their gamma up for a huge advantage on night maps. It's really lame and I'd love to see Crytek just crush the blacks in the same way!
I was introduced to the base game by my older brother, and it is our favorite game of all time. He watched me play the base game while he already went through it himself. Now I played the DLC before he could, and I can't wait to see his reactions. Oh how the turn tables.
Wow, this was actually my exact same experience! The game resonated with me so much it's my prof pic haha. For me it made the game 10 times better. I'm glad we both got to have such an incredible experience ::)! When I beat the game, I paused and then in tears asked "did you cry at the end too?" And while I couldn't see him over the discord call, I could hear over his tears. "Yeah, of course I did!"
The thing that creeped me out the most in the dlc was the slidereels. When it cuts to a burned one and the music just... stops. Or when you reach one with an important revelation the music just becomes hauntingly eerie. it sounds so creepily off its fantastic.
I just love the 2 types of landing shown off in this video. Type 1 is when you first enter the stanger and land carefully, type 2 is after your 10th loop and you just chuck your ship in wrecklessly.
started listening to the ost today and i just cant believe how good the composer is. it has such a different feel to it, yet it sounds like its from outer wilds (like the dlc overall i guess). also the combination and usage of such strange sounds is just very unique. he outdid himself with it, which was hard to do cause the main game also had a marvelous ost ps. the moments were you got a new film to watch were my favorite bits. to tell the story of just snipbits that had music behind it was sweet
One small detail: the deep space satellite was always there even without the dlc, I remember seeing a tiny red dot when I fully zoomed out on the solar system map, it took me ages to position close enough to the satellite to see it but man was it worth it (I also broke it accidentally haha)
11:16 no actually, I learned all of that by falling down the giant hole I didn't see, somehow landing on the platforms, just for them to break, jumping away and landing on another platform without breaking it, just for the ground to start falling towards the black hole. Spoilers here, but after that I crashed against the white hole station because I didn't know how to fly in space. And that was my first death 5 minutes into the game
There was a solid 30 minutes where I hated this dlc in those darkness/stealth sections, but, after clearing one of them, my mind was blown and I was reminded why I love this game so much. Seriously, if the horror elements are a huge turn off, I'd highly recommend trying to push through them, because the payoff is so so worth it.
A tip for those who are stuck: there are ways to bypass many of the horror sections! Take a step back and think about methods that you’ve already learned
I'll be honest, even after finishing the DLC they still ruined the experience for me, even with Reduced Frights. I had to resort to guides to get through the stealth sections after I figured out everything else. Sadly that did spoil some shortcut things but at this point I was just done with it mentally. Oh and to those who say that there's ways avoid it, you only learn that after clearing each section. So the info is only useful on repeat visits
I’ve bought 3 friends this game because I couldn’t convince them too. It’s so hard without spoiling it. So I bought the for them game, and it was well worth it.
I may have to do this, too. The game is sooo worth it, but also sooo difficult to recommend to friends. Telling someone WHY the game is so amazing without also spoiling at least a few aspects of it is just really hard. But if they're not conviced by "trust me, it's that good", you kinda have no other choice anymore... ... but at the same time, you also don't want to oversell it, because then people might get the wrong kind of expectations and end up getting disappointed.
For those who want to play more outer wilds, here is something that you can try. It is possible to complete 100% of the base game while never flying your ship, only your jetpack. This include the last loop, all locations, ship logs, signals, without using glitches. It is obviously very, very challenging but I do recommend it because it can be fun to figure out how to reach those places. Completing this challenge requires great flight skills but also to creatively use what you already know about this solar system. Have fun!
@@SystemBD I think he is suggesting using orbital mechanics e.g. slingshotting around brittleholllow THEN giantsdeep for that massive boost. Not sure if its possible tho
The DLC is amazing. I, myself being a member of being a little bitch, hated trying the Homeworld. But I knew I had to tough it out. The music like the previous game often uses the main theme in a remixed way. The echo remix sounds like sad reminiscing version of the main song. It makes you wonder and curious, to what it means. The mystery is amazing. The story, without spoilers, has no retcons. It fits perfect in the universe, as if it was always there, we were just not told it. And it's important to the base game. The retelling without text and only visual, is amazing and very thematic to the aliens. Gameplay is changed a lot, and mechanics of the main game aren't used in some cases. It's a bit linear, but that's to be understood. Plus, some important discovery parts are easy to stumble into because of the nature of the game. Like the base game, you can beat it in 20 minutes, you just don't know how to yet.
I picked this game when it came out completely blind. So blind in fact that I didn't even know it was a time loop. Two years later I STILL awe over the moment the sun implodes for the first time and everything reset. Outer Wilds is my favorite game of all time, and I find it hard to believe anything could possibly top it.
I went In Knowing so little that I wasn’t even aware that it was about space exploration. I was suprised by the art style and the time loop as well. I died within 5 minutes before getting to my ship bc I jumped into a gyser and drowned.
Same, I went in knowing nothing other than the title. My brother suggested that I just play it without even looking at the game description. I trust his judgement, so that's what I did. And that truly is the best way to play it.
@@janandreas231 I watch bricky. I clicked the video because it said best game of the year and I scrolled down and saw one comment say it is their favorite game and this one that spoiled a massive plot point. I just wanted to know if I should get it not to read a fucking spoiler with no warning on a video recommending the game.
I seriously cannot wait to see what comes next from Mobius. They've really made a masterpiece with Outer Wilds. I'm torn because I want more Outer Wilds, but I don't know if that would ruin it. I want more space adventure games from them, but maybe not necessarily set in the same place? They are absolute masters of crafting an adventure where you learn to progress.
Its so timeless, i could be playing it 10 years from now and still enjoy it just as much. I do worry that a particular part of the charm might wear off if they made a series out of it, part of the beauty of Outer Wilds is that its just a simple self contained game, without all the fluff and battle passes that other games push
10:46 well actually you can add several more things from the rest of the escape pod 1) How to interact with Nomai structures (glowing balls follow your eyes) 2) How to identify nearby signals 3) The Nomai crash landed here, likely from another star system 4) There is a much larger Nomai ship somewhere in the system 5) there are 2 more escape pods in the system 6) if you somehow hadn’t noticed, volcano moon
I played the base game a few months after it came out. I think about it about probably three times a week, three years later. I absolutely adore this game. I’m so sincerely convinced I won’t play a better game for another decade. I hold it so near and dear to my heart. I first played it at a very low time in my life. I’m not saying Outer Wilds made everything better, I’m saying it was there for me when no one wasn’t. It’s a shame this game won’t see the popularity and love it deserves until it’s considered a classic. Echoes of the Eye put that spark back in my heart that only Outer Wilds has been able to achieve. I wish I could shake everyone involved in its development and tell them thank you for both the base game and the DLC and let them know exactly how much both mean to me. You hit it on the head. This DLC is a masterpiece. Outer Wilds is a masterpiece. And that word should not be taking lightly. Both are truly works of art.
One thing that really impresses me about the game's design is how they repeatedly hide things in plain sight. Spoilers below Like the elevator shortcut in the hangar, or the artifact glitch. Multiple times I considered leaving my artifact behind so I could sneak around without holding down the conceal button, but every time I thought "but what if I *need* the artifact". If they hadn't made it such an important tool I probably would have stumbled on the glitch by accident.
One of my favorite parts was having the 3 secret areas pointed out to me, which in turn revealed 3 secrets that were always there, but i simply had not looked. I love that technically if i had looked around hard enough i would have found all of them on my own. In a way it does a lot to show how lazy a lot of puzzles in other games are, giving you a problem to solve to get a code to a door is easy. On the other hand, giving insights into small details and small difficult to notice things is amazing. For instance, on the dark mansion, i had a vague understanding that something was going on with the candles across the ravine, but figured i had just not figured something out yet
(Spoilers) But the thing is that i discovered the artifact glitch and the dying in the fire mechanic by accident wayy before I was supposed to do so. This has caused me to skip literally 75% of the stealth in the game and I didnt explore a lot of stuff because I just didn't need to. I literally didn't know they existed until I watched others play it. But when I tried to light my artifact by standing in the campfire (im smart ik) and accidentally dying, and just laughing it off, and the second i look back i just see myself standing with the torch lit and the corpses missing, getting that level of shock of not having a clue wtf is going on was just on another level. These moments really make up for the unintended route I've taken, but I would have loved to experience the intense stealth moments.
@@wunderrabbi Its okay, the intense stealth moments just felt cheap. It became a "memorize the map" kinda gameplay for me tbh which just turned annoying and ended up being a huge time sync. And then it was revealed that the "reduced frights" doesnt even actually reduce the fright (as the fright is already gone) it just makes it easier and doable.
@@flyingsheep1539 i remember playing the DLC completely blind with some friends on discord and it was so good. After getting through the third area and still not getting the reward, i remember thinking that i wasn't sure how i was suppose to accomplish the end goal and i decided to think about it while watching the slides. Even after watching them i was unsure of what the next step should be but the moment the sun exploded and the loop restarted, the coin dropped. That realization was such an amazing feeling and the fact that it's something i could have done all along if i had known those exploits is just so great. Absolutely loved it.
There's no promise you'll like it. There aspects of it that may turn off other people. There's nothing in this world that everyone will like but I think Outer Wilds has a better chance than most 😁
A thing that made that made me love this game was that once you completed a difficult roundabout path, it would usually be revealed to you that there is a secret easier path that you can get to much easier.
I feel this comment when I tried multiple times to stuck my ship into the ceiling of the Hanging City/Try to climb up the destroyed tower path just to make it into the Black Hole Forge just to… You know? You don’t deserve that knowledge, I’m just going to say I felt REALLY dumb the hint was planet sized yet never connected the dots, I felt genuinely dumb
You have to remember it's a small team behind this game, and the level of detail and polish is incredible. The graphics, artwork, music, puzzles, storytelling, it's just all so well done
The only negative thing I can say about Outer Wilds / Echoes of the Eye is that every other game will now pale in comparison. Even masterpieces like Hollow Knight and BOTW. Absolutely god tier.
Always good to see more people feel the same way about this game. A true masterpiece that I spend way too much time thinking about. We will be lucky to ever see something like it again.
I'll never forget entering the stranger for the first time, and the awe that came from going through that first door. Totally unexpected, this game is easily one of my all time favorites.
12:45 I fortunately/unfortunately tried exploring the outside of the Stranger first and managed to get inside just before the dam broke. So I felt about 2 seconds of awe, replaced by feeling "Holy fu**ing shit" being swept away by a tsunami. Certainly a powerful first impression.
Okay, my favorite game of all time is Hollow knight. Hell, I even got the kings brand tattooed on me I love it so much. But after the absolute joy that this game has given me, I'm starting to reconsider. Plus you know how the original game makes you uncomfortable with different fears like the ocean or the dark or heights. Yeah this DLC really fucking got my kenophobia at some points with this, especially entering the stranger and going outside it. I absolutely adore this game.
Do not worry. You can still say that Hollow Knight is the best game... because it is. You only have to come to the realization that Outer Wilds is a actually a mystical experience (i.e., something that inspires a sense of spiritual mystery, awe, and fascination) disguised as a game.
I feel like the discoveries in Echoes had to be better, because they had set up certain expectations in the base game, that people loved. I'm sure most people would have been okay if they just Met expectations, but, to truly be remarkable DLC that felt like it really added to the game, it needed to go beyond the experiences they had already given us. They found a way to make something feel exceptional in the world of Outer Wilds that was already made where exceptional was the standard.
Mobius opened my eyes about what Adventure and Exploration means. And for that I will thank them forever. Both the game and the DLC are my favorite games. In terms of emotions, the first game is all about exploring a star system and discovering what’s happening with all the excitement and amazement involved (and, to me, a bit of sadness). The DLC is more about mystery and yes, a bit of horror, but as you said, the « correct horror ». Without spoiling, what scared me the most about the DLC wasn’t the aliens, but it was « what’s going on with them. » The slide reels are amazingly well made, from the story telling, the changing missing on the burned slides, the changing missing when you start to understand what’s up with them, or even another kind of atmosphere for late reels, but I won’t spoil them as well. I was so surprised the DLC would be « that long » and that good. I hope Mobius will release more games like that because it definitely is my favorite genre.
The benefit of having an above average gold fish level of memory means I can enjoy a review/analysis of a story and still go in to it my self with so little idea what to expect.
The trailer for the DLC was also pretty good. I was really intrigued by it, but it didn't reveal anything specific, and it did it in a way that wasn't misleading at all. I think the visual (Stranger) vs written (Nomai) narrative aim to do different things. Maybe it's just cause I know the story already, but I feel like the visual storytelling gives you a more outside perspective, especially because it sometimes seems creepy, so you have this aversion to the people on the pictures (not to mention that they're constantly getting rid of you later). In case of the Nomai writings you're meant to associate with the Nomai and empathize with them, since in the end you're kinda working with them, even if they're not alive anymore. I do agree that the visual storytelling is next level, but when you first play Outer Wilds the text-based storytelling still feel amazing. I'm really glad they didn't go with visual the first time, so the DLC could have this awesome effect as well. I also like how they made an awesome, cinamatic discovery of the Stranger, and the first entrance was bindblowing, but then you can just do it the quick way. Weird thing is that I felt like the discoveries of Echoes of the Eye were much better than the original, but I played the original every second I could until I finished it, regardless :D Also I just expected the DLC to be a good continuation of the original, but it surpassed it just as much, as the original surpassed most other exploration games when it came out. Even though I think it's slightly too difficult. I'm kinda scared of horror games, and I'm kinda decent and puzzles, so people who have trouble at either of those could find the game a bit too hard. Luckily Outer Wilds has a pretty good fanbase, so you can find a lot or minimum-spoiler hints that will nudge you in the right direction. It's really hard to find a game that had such a strong effect on me lately. It's the kind of story that even after 1 week of finishing it, I just can't stop thinking about it.
I was thinking that this game is so fantastic, wonderful and so well made. The imagination in it almost unbelievable and there are things I haven't seen in anywhere, not even in Outer Wilds. And then... I remembered that it's not even a game, it is "just" a DLC. And still it feels more game than any 50 hours of kill everything you see game. Why aren't there more games so deep as Outer Wilds. :)
Definitely my favourite Game. Its Design is way ahead and I think many Games should adapt some Points of its Design Philosophie. Outer Wilds is Just the pure Love of Videogames. And I think it really is in its very Heart a Game. There are so many Games of whose you could Change the Medium to a book, movie or TV Show and also have Something cool because of the world or such. Just without the linear Gameplay but maybe a better Presentation. Outer Wilds Just works in its very concept as a Game. It lets Every Player Play it in His own pace, going his own ways and letting Every Player find These Moments of making a discovery on His very own. No Other medium can recreate the feelings this Game achieves.
Approaching the Stranger for the first time filled me with the exact amount of anxiety dipping through the cloud layer on Giants Deep and into Dark Bramble for the first time. It really makes you feel, once you enter the cloak, that you are going to find something no one wanted found.
I think the intro to the stranger is one of my favorite moments in gaming, you enter this dark ship with haunting music and even more alien atmosphere than the nomai and you’re tense and afraid expecting a jumpscare only to get dropped into this breathtaking ring world as a beautiful soundtrack starts playing and maybe you start to feel safe in this well lit seemingly abandoned environment only to discover that this is another false sense of security it’s so well done
If it wasnt for the fact I played it with my BF near the end of the DLC I would've been stuck for a few hours on those last few puzzles, but he suggested something and then dots just snapped together in my head. it was truly still amazing, it would've felt a bit better alone at the end but it was probably just as good with him, and that ending.... so worth it, I would've paid 60 for both the game and DLC, the DLC took me about 16 hours to beat
i actually got some of the big discoveries spoiled bc i tried looking up what to do, but i still found it satisfying finding out WHY and HOW those discoveries worked. After playing this it semented outer wilds as my favourite game of all time, and i would really recommend it to everyone!
(Have no fear, no spoilers here.) Fun fact: First time, I went to the DLC place without the space ship. I just uh. Left the space ship behind in space and flew toward the thing cause uh, my space ship drifted off and I didn't feel like getting back in it. That definitely added a bit to the experience.
When I first saw the trailer for the DLC, I thought it was an expansion that would take place within the Eye, instead of just a new place to explore in the system. The trailer made it feel like you could explore within the Eye, and find something sinister within it, something ancient and dark.
I cried at the end of Outer Wilds and I never thought I would experience that same kind of moment in the same game but in DLC. Echoes of the Eye is a true masterpiece of fine craftsmanship and pitch perfect design focus. I genuinely can’t wait to show my kids this game.
that brittle hollow moment is one of the best moments in gaming for me, and the reaction of HOLY SHIT THAT'S A BLACK HOLE is such an amazing revelation. I experienced it in the same way, through the escape pod, but even if someone just discovered it by arriving late and seeing it from the outside, it's such a great moment.
I played the base game back when it first released and it easily was my GOTY, when the DLC released I thought it was too soon to replay the base game so I only picked it up early 2024. Sadly I still remembered the vast majoirty and didn't enjoy the base game as much, but the DLC, it brought back that feeling of intrigue and exploration. Not a huge fan of the spooky stuff but damn it was a worthy DLC for this legendary game
Finding the stranger for the first time, it was so dark and unnerving, looking around the hanger hardly being able to see, then finding the boat platform and suddenly being dumped into the halo rings lake and the music starts to swell. That reveal was just incredible, went from being kinda spooked to awed in a split second. Then taking a look around the ring and just seeing all the places I *instantly* wanted to go and explore, instantly hooked me and played it till 3am.
I love this dlc it was the best experience ever, I think the only thing I didn't like was the extra step after finding the 'codes' it was such a troll move but a good step to explore the lore of the ship. So yeah 50/50 on that.
For me it was the absolute best part of the game, because I immediately accepted my job to find the codes, set to work, and after getting the 2nd clue realized that i never needed the codes, it was amazing and truly a troll move but a genius work of puzzle making
I'm not sure the slide shows are better than text bits for a story in general. I don't think slide shows could convey the love of discovery and exploration of the Nomai as well as text. On the other hand, it is much better than text to convey the emotions of Stranger's inhabitants.
Just finished watching your outer wilds dlc play through. Thanks for the great play through and all the big brain plays. This game is easily in my top 5!
I always pronounced Timber Hearth using the actual pronunciation of the word "hearth", so it rhymes with Garth. You know, like the expression "hearth and home." But when I was watching Bricky's playthrough, I noticed the achievement "Flat Hearther".. which suggests it should rhyme with "Earth." So now I just don't know!
So. The stranger was in the game the whole time, we could just never see it. Yet, during one of my loops from before the DLC was even revealed I was floating around at the edge of the system. Whilst looking about however, a section of the stars out there in the universe was blocked out. As if something I couldn't see was blocking my ability to see it.
Finally played outer wilds and finished it last week. Just finished the DLC tonight. I LOVE how the slide reels feel like analog horror, the cabins feel like a haunting, the crypts, the darkness, all the horror elements that fade Away as you learn more and more is a perfect balance
I played the base game after 1 hour spoiler that consisted of 39 minutes of running around the village and 21 minutes of flying around Timber Hearth. Didn't even see what caused the sky to turn dark then blue. Is currently my favorite game ever. That being said, I played only a tiny bit of DLC and Brick already spoiled everything I experienced 1:08 in to the video... Yeah, sorry, gonna go play it myself first. [Spoilers] I didn't expect the ring world. It was so awe inspiring when I arrived there. I slowly explored the things around me, thinking myself safe. Then the god damned dam broke and I experienced terror for the first time since Dark Bramble, despite not being able to drown with my oxygen supply. F-ing love this game.
Just beat the game after watching the first few minutes of this video and immediately clicking off because I trusted that recommendation. Holy shit, I want to wipe my memory so I can do that for the first time again. I spent 24 hours going through every nook and cranny to try to find every last little thing I could about this solar system, and I’m sure I still missed at least one thing. Time to explore the Echoes of the Eye, I suppose. I can’t wait to jump back into that shoddy little deathtrap of a ship.
Flying into the Stranger was terrifying the first time i did it, I was so confused because i lost track of it the first couple of times trying to reach it before it went past the sun so that when i reached it I was genuinely frightened.
I would like to add a comment regarding not bying the dlc because of fear factor. You can reduced the amount of direct encounter with the AI to almost zero ! And I'm not talking about "reduced frights", wich only makes the owls slower, I mean they are tricks that you can learn in the dlc to avoid the scary moments
When I first played Outer Wilds, it quickly cemented itself as my favorite game, being the first and so far only game to make me sob at the end. I didn't think it could get better. I was wrong.
Honestly bricky. Thank you so much. This world needs you. It's just so painful to see this masterpiece of a dlc be unnoticed by the public. I would love to see more lets players find this amazing game and expecially dlc. Also step Bro I'm stuck but I don't want to be spoiled! If you have finished the dlc and are a kind soul then I have to ask of someone. Spoilers ahead. I don't know what to do next. I have found the shadowversion of the place and I have seen 2 of the secrets but I have absolutely no idea for the third one. I know that I can leave the render distance of the torch and I know that I can bug out of the world throught the black cave entrances. But I can not get past the owl people in the high village. One owl is directly in front of a door at the bottom of the mansion. And the same with the one at the top. Can someone please give me a tip without spoiling too much of the game for me? Just a little tip maybe? I know how to make the mansion dark! There is an invisible bridge!
Light spoilers ahead. If you know you can leave the render of the torch, use that around the mansion, there's more than one thing to see there. If you don't know where to go after extinguishing the totem, remember that some things open in absence of light.
One of the two things that terrified me the most was that damn giant ass wave of water. I’ve always had an irrational fear of tsunamis even though they’re super rare so seeing that wave just swipe up those houses gives me chills
I love and hate videos about Outer Wilds. I love them because I love Outer Wilds. I hate them because they spoil it to the people who haven't played the game. I think there should be a requirement to put a big message at the start of every video that says "IF YOU HAVEN"T PLAYED OUTER WILDS, STOP, BUY AND PLAY THE GAME! IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT OUTER WILDS, STOP, DON'T SEARCH ANYTHING ABOUT IT, BUY AND PLAY THE GAME!".....yeah maybe a bit too long but something like that 😂 I particularly don't like how you showed clips of the DLC before even saying you don't want to spoil anything 😆 To me the text-based and visual-based lores are equally good. They each have their own pros and cons. With texts, I think it's easier to understand what they're trying to convey. With the reels, there are times when it's hard to figure out exactly what it's trying to tell you. The reels can be more engaging to see for most people I guess. But with the texts, we were able to know and love characters that we even never met. We got more personalities out of the texts which will be really hard to do with the reels. I think the best way to describe Outer Wilds to people who haven't played it yet, is that it's like real life. There are basically unlimited things you can do in your life. You just haven't discovered or learned about them yet. So go explore 😄
I will not be watching this video until you have finished your playthrough on the second channel cause I love reacting to stuff with you but I will give my like and comment for you brick
Bricky. I've been hitting myself in the head with a nat to give myself amnesia so I can play the game again. I've done this 4 times now and I have sevier and permanent brain damage. 10/10 plan would reccomend. Worth it
“So how do you progress in this game?” Me- “knowledge” “So like a currency, you buy or upgrade things with knowledge?” “No” “Oh so like there’s so many scrolls or papers that need to be collected to trigger the ending?” “No” “So…uhm….you gather….what..what is the feed back loop? Where is the goodies?” “In my mutha fuckin brain”
I love Echoes of the Eye for the simple reason that it leans way more into both the feeling of an alien threat, but also the feeling of futility. Yes the base game has both of those, some good examples being Brittle Hollow and the B.H.F. and the entirety of the Interloper. But Echoes of the Eye ramps it up to 100. The way the trailer shows the sun seemingly being consumed by some overpowering force. The way it shows familiar settings and tones being distorted and warped in a seemingly malicious way. Then there's the gameplay. Like you explained, the way light and darkness play key roles in it, which makes certain segments terrifying. It also fits well with the theme of the DLC. Then there's the music. It is far more _echoe-ey_ and somber, which fits extremely well with the story and new character. And plus the music is just bangin, as in bangin your emotions around. But it's scary, in a good way of course. It's scary in the kinda way where the fear pushes you to explore in order to conquer said fear. I love this game. And this video.
When I first entered the stranger I somehow missed the outer hangar so I flew around and completely missed the raft drop reveal, but entering from the other side was just as amazing
Outer WIlds was one of the best gaming experiences i've ever had on my almost 20 years of gaming. Underrated game, crazy underrated. God damn just watching this video gave me the feels, maybe cause i'm way too affraid of space and sht. But what a feel and a what a time this game gave me. I hope to one day i get to play this DLC and stream it.
I shoulda listened, I wish I had listened. But even after starting the game off with an idea of what was going on, the game is just so spectacularly made and the story is so engrossing that it still managed to awe me. And the story...man it hits hard. I've 100% the game 3 times now and it's become one of my favorite games of all time. Thank you for talking about this game Mr. Brick
It’s crazy how we all thought that after completing the game a first time, it would be less impactful the second time. But then after Echoes of the eye, I don’t know you, but I cried. AND I DIDN’T CRY THE FIRST TIME. This second time I was remembering the time between the first time, and this second time, and I was like “yeah, this is my favorite game of all time”.
There were enemies in that section he showed when he discussed them? I just blew out the candles to open the doors, went down the elevator and made sure to avoid the alarms. I heard the enemies, but I could only hear them above me and they never came down the elevators. I didn’t know you could blow out all the candles in the house to free them.
When I bought the dlc I played through the entire base game again because they said it'd be best if you had a completed log before that, and only near the very end did I find the dlc. I started the playthrough on the older version of the game without the new exhibit in the museum because my PS4 took ages to download the dlc and the new version, and since I didn't return to the observatory I didn't see that. Anyway, after only having Dark Bramble and a tiny bit of the Hourglass Twins and Brittle Hollow left to explor I noticed a red glowing thing in the distance. Couldn't actually find it though. A little later I saw a weird tjing on the mal, locked on and promptly kicked the satellite into the depths of space sparking like it was gonna explode any second. Didnhave a map anymore either. So the dlc do be kinda hard to find if you aren't super observant. Loved the new puzzles though, only needed help from the internet once because the game kept on crashing when I tried to open a door with my scout and I thought there was another way. There wasn't but I figured the info out without that door open and now they fixed the issue I think.
The trailer has set our mind to expect something dark and spooky then we see how beautiful the new place is with our jaw on the floor. Then we see the first picture of them and "oohhh, oookay....". Then we discover the dream world and "oooohhh, wait! nooo......." Then we get our first encounter with them and "noooooo! okay trailer you won!"
Outer Wilds is THE best game ever made to me. I have never seen anything, that was able to convey pure cosmic horror as well as Outer Wilds did. I have never seen anything, that was able to use exploration and exploration alone as the driving force of the entire game, where NOTHING is pointless, where everything is so tightly connected, that no matter what you find, you always know that there's more to be found now, thanks to what you just found. It's the game EVERYONE should play, and I made it my life goal, to make sure people who don't know about it - play it. Also DLC is scary as fuck. The moment I flew towards the Stranger for the first time, which completely hid the sun, was so pants-shittingly scary, that I genuinely had to take a 20 minute brake.
Spooky Deer wants you out of the swamp
Are you gonna post the vod? I didn't get to watch you play it on twitch, because I was playing it myself, but I'd love to be able to watch you play through it!
That's exactly what I loved in the [Spooky Deer]s... they just want you to get out of their property.
And only harm you if they cannot make you go away.

Sure, I can adapt the translator tool to read it, I just need a few hundred samples, some kind of epigraphical codex, and six months, and by then i should have some idea of where to start!"
...six months :'-(
We need to kidnap Hal, bring him to the one unlinked Nomai Statue, Add him to the time loop, then let him translate it
@@lunarwings4481 fun fact: there’s actually (at least)2 unlinked statues! (Semi spoilers: One is in the place with the gravitational anomaly, the other is in the place where the answers are held.

The pain of outer wilds, it's so fucking good, but you *cannot* talk about *any* of the best bits with anyone that's hasn't already finished it
Sad but true
I almost started to play this game on my own but then decided to play it with my friend and explore the game together. We both loved it and wouldn’t shut up about it
The real pain of Outer Wilds is that once you've played it once, you can't re-play it the same way ever again.
@@Akumasama sad but true
And the other pain is that you can't replay it until you've forgotten at least half of it. But it was so good, it's hard to forget. You'll never get those awe inspiring moments on a second play-through.
this was the nail in the coffin for me. I can now say with confidence that outer wilds is my favorite game of all time
I never can really pick a favorite anything... but outer wilds changed that with this dlc. No other game has ever reached such a fucking coital connection between narrative, player emotions, gameplay and level design.
@@JanneSala agree 100%

It was such a strong feeling when you encounter your first owl.
Outer Wilds continues to be Game of the Year for the 3rd year in a row, nothing surprising there. What a fucking game.

Apparently the devs had an issue where the Stranger's inhabitants were considered too friendly-looking in the paintings.
And ironically, the only one to have his face scratched out is the one that’s also the most open minded
Are you sure they were just playing? just kidding 😂
Yeah, I've seen a lot of playthroughs where the streamer cried at the end regardless if it's a boy or girl 😄
It's the same feeling here, dude.
Me too man
You need to check out the Noclip documentary on the game. It's very well done, and goes very in depth with the development details.
the topic you mentioned about the darkness is "coded", actually, it's the other way around!
@@geggiiis night hunts would be an even more tense shit show than before, and I'm down for that.
The darkness is barely bearable normally, but then YOU turn off the lights.
I'm still not over the tower with three separate secret rooms somehow built into it.
I was introduced to the base game by my older brother, and it is our favorite game of all time. He watched me play the base game while he already went through it himself. Now I played the DLC before he could, and I can't wait to see his reactions.
Oh how the turn tables.
Oh wow, I really wanted to experience that. So far I've only watched maybe 10 playthroughs? LOL but watching someone in person would be really cool.
How the turns have tabled
The thing that creeped me out the most in the dlc was the slidereels. When it cuts to a burned one and the music just... stops. Or when you reach one with an important revelation the music just becomes hauntingly eerie. it sounds so creepily off its fantastic.
I just love the 2 types of landing shown off in this video. Type 1 is when you first enter the stanger and land carefully, type 2 is after your 10th loop and you just chuck your ship in wrecklessly.
YES
Also you literally can't review this without spoiling
started listening to the ost today and i just cant believe how good the composer is. it has such a different feel to it, yet it sounds like its from outer wilds (like the dlc overall i guess). also the combination and usage of such strange sounds is just very unique. he outdid himself with it, which was hard to do cause the main game also had a marvelous ost
ps. the moments were you got a new film to watch were my favorite bits. to tell the story of just snipbits that had music behind it was sweet

@@Dead_Heir no, it‘s better this way. the magic would quickly seem lost if it became too mainstream
One small detail: the deep space satellite was always there even without the dlc,
I remember seeing a tiny red dot when I fully zoomed out on the solar system map, it took me ages to position close enough to the satellite to see it but man was it worth it (I also broke it accidentally haha)
Of you slam into it it breaks the map
Deep Space Satellite was NOT always there without the DLC - it was just added in a patch to everyone's games a couple days before the DLC dropped.
8:11 seeing them open their mouths for the first time, and realizing that their “beak” is actually just their nose was quite spooky!
Their mouths are fcking terrifying. They look like they look like they're possessed by Eldritch brings.
"The dopamine trip of KNOWLEDGE" (at 17:10 ) is certainly the best, non-spoilery description for this game.
When I fell into the black hole i was sick to my stomach scared of the white hole. I just restarted because it was so brutal
And for the people that are considering quitting BC of frustration, *turn on reduced frights* it makes those sections a bit easier
Also also for peeps, there is a way to avoid them. It's just a really good puzzle to figure out how.
@@SourSourSour finding that way to avoid them was the thing that blew my mind and got me so excited to keep going in the dlc
You're a good friend
I may have to do this, too. The game is sooo worth it, but also sooo difficult to recommend to friends. Telling someone WHY the game is so amazing without also spoiling at least a few aspects of it is just really hard. But if they're not conviced by "trust me, it's that good", you kinda have no other choice anymore...
... but at the same time, you also don't want to oversell it, because then people might get the wrong kind of expectations and end up getting disappointed.

Its SO HARD to tell ppl to play this
For those who want to play more outer wilds, here is something that you can try. Have fun!
Dark Bramble without my ship? I would die due to asphyxiation... and not just in the game.
Thanks for the spoiler man.

10:46 well actually you can add several more things from the rest of the escape pod
1) How to interact with Nomai structures (glowing balls follow your eyes)
2) How to identify nearby signals

4) There is a much larger Nomai ship somewhere in the system
5) there are 2 more escape pods in the system
6) if you somehow hadn’t noticed, volcano moon
Spoilers below
Like the elevator shortcut in the hangar, or the artifact glitch.
(Spoilers)
But the thing is that i discovered the artifact glitch and the dying in the fire mechanic by accident wayy before I was supposed to do so.
Even after watching them i was unsure of what the next step should be but the moment the sun exploded and the loop restarted, the coin dropped.
That realization was such an amazing feeling and the fact that it's something i could have done all along if i had known those exploits is just so great. Absolutely loved it.

The moment when I first dropped down on the boat, looked up and saw the full scope of the Stranger.... that is a moment that I will never forget
You have to remember it's a small team behind this game, and the level of detail and polish is incredible. The graphics, artwork, music, puzzles, storytelling, it's just all so well done
I used the scout to watch the slides early on. My eyes thanked me when i figured out you could use a lamp
Yeah did the same but it's cool that any light source can work on the projector
Time for an Eye of the Universe tattoo
@@sgbench I was actually thinking of the main guy sitting on a lil moon roasting marshmallows
Two of the best games ever made for sure.
Outer Wilds is the most beautiful and terrifying game i've ever played and i have no idea how it can be both at the same time.
This was the first time I felt like crying from playing a DLC
Weird thing is that I felt like the discoveries of Echoes of the Eye were much better than the original, but I played the original every second I could until I finished it, regardless :D
Also I just expected the DLC to be a good continuation of the original, but it surpassed it just as much, as the original surpassed most other exploration games when it came out.
It’s hard. The team is just so damn talented.
(Have no fear, no spoilers here.)
Fun fact:
First time, I went to the DLC place without the space ship.
20 minutes? İ can easily finish this game in 5 to 7 min. Just sleep wake at min 6 go take warp core and dive into dark bremble. Jobs done.
that brittle hollow moment is one of the best moments in gaming for me, and the reaction of HOLY SHIT THAT'S A BLACK HOLE is such an amazing revelation.
Regarding the enemy AI I believe they patched it to be a little more lenient, but that may have only been in the decreased scares mode
You know, like the expression "hearth and home."
But when I was watching Bricky's playthrough, I noticed the achievement "Flat Hearther".. which suggests it should rhyme with "Earth."
So now I just don't know!
This is the best review I've seen, for a true masterpiece. You telling your viewer to just stop and play was so right and respectful.
I stepped on the Stranger and was almost immediately killed by the Dam. 10/10 - that was the first but not the last fright of this DLC.
So. The stranger was in the game the whole time, we could just never see it. Yet, during one of my loops from before the DLC was even revealed I was floating around at the edge of the system. Whilst looking about however, a section of the stars out there in the universe was blocked out. As if something I couldn't see was blocking my ability to see it.
there is another "invisible" sphere where the dark bramble rooms are stored, but you'd be extremely lucky to find it on accident
Those are where the Dark Bramble rooms are loaded.
[Spoilers]
I didn't expect the ring world. It was so awe inspiring when I arrived there. I slowly explored the things around me, thinking myself safe.
Then the god damned dam broke and I experienced terror for the first time since Dark Bramble, despite not being able to drown with my oxygen supply.
F-ing love this game.
exactly i don't get why he showed all that footage before the spoiler warning?? just why
My friends never get more than an hour in before getting bored, lost, or overwhelmed by what to do next. Really hurts to see.
Flying into the Stranger was terrifying the first time i did it, I was so confused because i lost track of it the first couple of times trying to reach it before it went past the sun so that when i reached it I was genuinely frightened.
4:57 honestly seems like something the chill gabbro would say lol
@@monoUniflora OMG I didnt connect the dots that you could just drop it everywhere. I was looking for another thing to put it into...
I feel stupid
One of the two things that terrified me the most was that damn giant ass wave of water. I’ve always had an irrational fear of tsunamis even though they’re super rare so seeing that wave just swipe up those houses gives me chills
I love and hate videos about Outer Wilds. I love them because I love Outer Wilds. I hate them because they spoil it to the people who haven't played the game. I think there should be a requirement to put a big message at the start of every video that says "IF YOU HAVEN"T PLAYED OUTER WILDS, STOP, BUY AND PLAY THE GAME! IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT OUTER WILDS, STOP, DON'T SEARCH ANYTHING ABOUT IT, BUY AND PLAY THE GAME!".....yeah maybe a bit too long but something like that 😂
I particularly don't like how you showed clips of the DLC before even saying you don't want to spoil anything 😆
To me the text-based and visual-based lores are equally good.
Bricky, you're the reason I picked up the base game after watching the first few minutes of your other video. Bricky. I can not thank you enough.
I will not be watching this video until you have finished your playthrough on the second channel cause I love reacting to stuff with you but I will give my like and comment for you brick
I bet if you met one of The Inhabitants at random, in the forest you could think it's a damn Wendigo
Bricky. I've been hitting myself in the head with a nat to give myself amnesia so I can play the game again. I've done this 4 times now and I have sevier and permanent brain damage. 10/10 plan would reccomend. Worth it
I am very proud of your son. 3 days old and he's already marketing things for you. Gotta evade them child labor laws.
The radio tower is actually a part of the base game, it just doesn’t do anything 😂
“So how do you progress in this game?”
Me- “knowledge”
“So like a currency, you buy or upgrade things with knowledge?”
“No”
“Oh so like there’s so many scrolls or papers that need to be collected to trigger the ending?”
“No”
“So…uhm….you gather….what..what is the feed back loop? Where is the goodies?”
“In my mutha fuckin brain”
When first seeing the ring-world, entering their home realm, and discovering... *that*, all i could think was "Wow. I could never have expected this."
The trailer has set our mind to expect something dark and spooky then we see how beautiful the new place is with our jaw on the floor.
Then we see the first picture of them and "oohhh, oookay....".
Then we discover the dream world and "oooohhh, wait! nooo......."
Then we get our first encounter with them and "noooooo! okay trailer you won!"
stopped at 4:21, will return to watch after playing DLC. the base game is fantastic, my gf and I both loved it.
