I love how Kiara opens Kovu's eyes. I think that's part of why he fell in love with her. He finally saw that there is more to life than training and killing. For the first time in a long time he actually got to enjoy himself and have fun.
I feel like the reason why Kiara and kovu works so well together is because they both had something the other one wanted Kiara wanted independence where kovu wanted guidance and help. And when they found each other and found that the other person was just offering the perfect life for them, they immediately bonded over that. So Kiara and kovu both reached each other's dreams together by using each other.
What hit so hard is when he said he wasn’t my father but he was still a part of me knowing that scar was the only person he think of when he says father
If there wouldn't be "Upendi" scene, and instead Kovu's confession (to Kiara only, of course) about what his mother wants he does (we see Kovu who wants really confess himself, but when he really took his decision - one of the bravest acts in a Disney couple -, Simba prevents him without know, what will do learn his trouble past by th worst way ever), Kiara/Kovu would be definitly my favorite Disney couple ever, with Kiara who brings to Kovu an unshakable help to save his soul and his life, and who, later, explains him that their leak won't bring nothing but more violence and pain to both prides, and regret to them both for the rest of their lives. From the other side, Kovu learns to her how chase, has the courage of confess without Kiara asks to him, but also to come back in front of two prides which both rejected him (whose one which gave him the worst humiliation ever) after listening Kiara. And finally, I add each of them saves the other twice (once each other during crocodiles' attack, then Kovu saves Kiara from the fire (lighted by his brother and sister), and Kiara finds back after her father unfairly exiled him (what have made ALL loosing, an auspicious situation for somebody commits suicide (after "One of Us" lyrics). Kiara/Kovu should be my 2nd or 3rd favourite Disney couple.

I know they wrote Kovu as adopted so Kiara and him wouldn’t be second cousins but I really think having him be Scar’s son makes the story more meaningful because it emphasizes his disillusionment when he hears the other side of the story and his decision to choose different path than the one marked out for him by his mother. Zira was extremely loyal to scar and favored Kovu, which caused Nuka much resentment. Kovu never really knew Scar since he died young, but since Kovu was the chosen one and the outlanders we're loyal to Scar, Kovu likely idolized him for a long time. Remember, he was brainwashed to thinking the pridelanders we're the enemy and was trained to kill.
