I tell you a story, an impossible but true story: When I was young I played FF7 and was blown away, like most people. So of course I played 8 too, heard the song, loved it and always remembered it. Anyway life went on, got a job, but at some point at the lowest point of my life I decided I need to do something else. Years have passed, it is 2009 and I was going on a trip to find myself. Went backpacking for half a year in South Wast Asia and China. At the end end my trip in China I meet a girl, a Chinese girl in my hostel room and she was listening to this song on her phone. So I went like "Yo, isn't that Eyes on me from Final Fantasy 8?" and she's like, no it's from Faye Wong, she is a Chinese singer and I'm like "No I meant from the video game" and she just starred at me with blank eyes, like wtf is he talking about. So I explained, it's a japanese video game and I always thought the singer is Japanese as well. She still confused what kind of weirdo I am, so I asked her out with the people I meet in the hostel together tonight. She said, well I will think about it... She never came... But next afternoon after waking up hangover I found a note beside my pillow: "I'm so sorry I didn't came but thank you for inviting me, here my phone and email. Had to leave early in the morning". She was just polite, which I didn't know. I did contact her, even tough she didn't expect me to as it was just meant as a apology for being unpolite in her opinion. End of story? No... We stayed in contact even after I've been back home. But I still wasn't finished. So I asked her to help me find a school in which I could study Chinese for a year, which she really did... Forward to 2019, the rest is history and we are married for 6 years and right now we are moving from China to my country. All because someone at Squaresoft 20 years ago decided to include a Chinese song in a Japanese video game. We are also going to have children soon. So, a life will be created only because of that...

I'm 31 now and I just got married this past weekend. I walked down the aisle to this song. I still get teary eyed thinking about it. Music can move you so deeply.

How ironic. Because in the game, the singer of this song wrote this song for a man she loved. She confessed her feelings to him through this song, the night before he got sent off to the front lines for war, in which the man reciprocated her feelings because their feelings were mutual. Sadly, they didn't end up together because he never returned from the war. He survived his mission but was too gravely injured and fell into the sea, drifted away to some remote village or town. By the time he recovered, he was assumed to be Killed And Missing In Action. By then, she married another man.

I was 11 years old when I first played this game from a rental shop. Our family was very poor and we cannot afford a PS1 console because we can't even afford a good meal. My mom had literally pulled me by the ear to drag me outside of the rental shop just to stop playing. This song will always have a special place in my heart because it reminds me of the challenges that I had as a kid. It reminds me that I had the best parents. It reminds me of the dream that I am living in right now. I am not super rich but I am very proud that I live a comfortable life. It just saddens me that I no longer have my parents to see it. They just don’t make ‘‘em like they used to! FF7,8, and 9 have some of the best music not just in video games, but anywhere imo. To say Nobuo Uematsu is a genius is an understatement.

Rinoa and Squall is nice, Yuna and Tidus is nice, Garnet and Zidane is nice...But, for what little we were shown, Raine and Laguna was so beautiful and heartbreaking, they did such a good job at conveying that feeling of a relationship getting developed and nurtured...And they just showed us what? A small dream sequence at the beginning of Disc 2 and another bit at the ending via Laguna´s remembrance?
This game was so real to me. Growing up I was never liked by girls and this let me experience what falling for someone was like before I experienced it for myself. This song is the epitome of that feeling.

***** Yes. That is exactly the reason why I love Final Fantasy games. You really do feel for those characters and every time I finish those games -even after many replays- I feel so empty inside, when the story ends.

That is the reason why I love gaming (and reading). If it didn't make me feel that way I would have never became a gamer and would have never started studying programming and development. Man.,...This has me missing my mom so bad. This game, along with FFVIII, were games that we really bonded over in my childhood. I never felt more loved, cared for, and seen by my mom than those years spent playing this game beginning to end over and over. They need to remaster ff7 and ff8 completely and add surprises like map expansions and off missions and extra games, the generation that loved these games deserve that, these two games never get old but especially ff8 for me its more realistic taste, and i don't think voices will hurt as long as they remaster dramatic cgi cinematics genuinely. They have also released hd versions on steam so a new generation can fall in love with the originals! ;-)
I agree with you friends. I'm one who played all the final fantasies but only 4 of them that really moved me. Final fantasy 6, 7, 8 and 9. The story and music on these 4 series are the best ever. I still listen to their music and I hope they would be remastered. Because I'm sick with these new bull shit final fantasy games that lack so much things.
square enix has said they have purposely just killed time with the newer games too make sure theres a market of support so they can afford remastering the classics, us true fans know the fans are ready but its just not happening?? where would they listen and what site do we steer our ship at at!! lol

When that flute kicks it, it always summons a tear. Beautiful music in games that mirror the story and gameplay is extremely rare now a days. Final fantasy 7 through 9 had the best soundtracks, as I grow older I realized it's the soundtracks of actual life. I started when I was 12 with FF, I'm reaching 33, and damn every track has hit me in the feels as I get older every year. This song, I was in love but got my heart broken, we got divorced. Listening to this song, it's like I wish it was a dream but one I didn't want to wake up from, but she gave me a rude awakening.
I haven't heard this song in a long time, about a dozen years ago. My mom gifted my young brother with a computer and I listened to him play this song over and over again on it. At that time he was about 16 years old, a cheerful teenager who was very happy living life. Now things are different... The days of my mother are gone... I recently played final fantasy 8 and this song is my favorite from series. It’s very soothing and relaxing. The voice is so beautiful. And it just touches my soul every time i hear it. I’m glad I played 8 even though what stopped me from playing it sooner were people who were saying it was a bad game. But they were wrong and it’s one of my favorite games. I hope one day I too will find a Rinoa who can give me happiness
VII, VIII, IX, and X made me a fan of this series. Yeah I may have started with the 3D Remake of IV, but I played VII-X in early 7th grade. God knows how long I spent on them, and even now with their ports and remasters I’ve rebought them. Thank you Square for making my favorite video game series.
Heck I have all my notes that I made while playing the games, and I still use them. I even own the soundtracks now on Apple Music and Spotify. This series means so much to me, and has gotten me through good times and hard times.
I went into this game with low expectations because people said it was bad. Now after beating the game I've gotta say its one of my favorite games of all time. Absolutely love it.

Don't care what anyone says, FF8 was one of the best video games i ever played in my life, along with the first metal gear solid on PS1. They just don't make games like this anymore.
I was thinking the other day about why this Final Fantasy game was my favourite out of all the ones I played (I loved everyone from 1-10...but did not like 12 or 13) and I think it's because of the whole Squall and Rinoa dynamic combined with an exceptional soundtrack which was the best in the series. Squall and Rinoa are the best couple in the series IMO. Cloud and Tifa's relationship wasn't as central to the plot of FF7 (again, that's my opinion), FF9 was brilliant but the princess and the thief romance didn't capture my imagination (although the ending was great) and Rosa and Cecil in FF4 weren't really that exciting as a couple (outstanding game though). Now most people would probably say Tidus and Yuna were the best but I just always felt they were made for each other and it was all too easy the way they always got along. They were too similar. Squall on the other hand has to get over a lot of personal shit to be with Rinoa, and when you get to the final scene and he's there smiling, it just makes it all the more worthwhile :-)
Meh... Zidane and Garnet was great as well. She was a princess and Zidane got to get over himself to be with her. The whole peasant and queen is there. Also their story is the same as the play "I want to be your canary" one. Also, the ending was priceless. Squall was the greatest character in his game, followed close by Rinoa and Irvine (Irvine is my opinion, because the guy is simply hilarious) and I found Squall annoying to her at times. He has his moments though. Tidus and Yuna were a great couple since the beginning. Cecil was actually together with Rosa? He is so stoic i had trouble feeling it. And say it was because of the game's age is no excuse. Yang and his wife were more believable as a couple than a few I know in real life. Cloud has no woman, even though the game tries to push one his way.
I just finished the game 20 years later and the feeling still the same. FF8 is a masterpiece and makes me emotional because of the story and soundtrack =)

This song and music video has always been played in a cable tv chatroom in the Philippines in the early 2000's. This song is truly popular back in the day especially in the night until the next morning. They played it at least 20 or 25 times. The sequence of playtime is this song then another song then another song and this song again. I remember kids back in the days of Friendster and MySpace, they use the pictures of Squall and Rinoa as their profile picture.

All these years on, I have yet to play a game as incredible and beautiful as this. I mean yeah I've played some really really great games but none that I feel so sentimental and passionate about as this. Loved it back then and love it now.

this is my mom's favorite song. she passed away back in 2018 because of cancer and whenever I miss her, I play this. And that is why I am here.

A small dream sequence at the beginning of Disc 2 and another bit at the ending via Laguna´s remembrance?

must be strong & we can overcome it.
They need to remaster ff7 and ff8 completely and add surprises like map expansions and off missions and extra games, the generation that loved these games deserve that, these two games never get old but especially ff8 for me its more realistic taste, and i don't think voices will hurt as long as they remaster dramatic cgi cinematics genuinely. They have also released hd versions on steam so a new generation can fall in love with the originals! ;-)

When that flute kicks it, it always summons a tear. Beautiful music in games that mirror the story and gameplay is extremely rare now a days. Final fantasy 7 through 9 had the best soundtracks, as I grow older I realized it's the soundtracks of actual life. I started when I was 12 with FF, I'm reaching 33, and damn every track has hit me in the feels as I get older every year.

I recently played final fantasy 8 and this song is my favorite from series. It’s very soothing and relaxing. The voice is so beautiful. And it just touches my soul every time i hear it. VII, VIII, IX, and X made me a fan of this series. Yeah I may have started with the 3D Remake of IV, but I played VII-X in early 7th grade. God knows how long I spent on them, and even now with their ports and remasters I’ve rebought them. Thank you Square for making my favorite video game series.
Heck I have all my notes that I made while playing the games, and I still use them. I even own the soundtracks now on Apple Music and Spotify. This series means so much to me, and has gotten me through good times and hard times.
I went into this game with low expectations because people said it was bad. Now after beating the game I've gotta say its one of my favorite games of all time. Absolutely love it.

I was thinking the other day about why this Final Fantasy game was my favourite out of all the ones I played (I loved everyone from 1-10...but did not like 12 or 13) and I think it's because of the whole Squall and Rinoa dynamic combined with an exceptional soundtrack which was the best in the series. Squall and Rinoa are the best couple in the series IMO. Cloud and Tifa's relationship wasn't as central to the plot of FF7 (again, that's my opinion), FF9 was brilliant but the princess and the thief romance didn't capture my imagination (although the ending was great) and Rosa and Cecil in FF4 weren't really that exciting as a couple (outstanding game though). Now most people would probably say Tidus and Yuna were the best but I just always felt they were made for each other and it was all too easy the way they always got along. They were too similar. Squall on the other hand has to get over a lot of personal shit to be with Rinoa, and when you get to the final scene and he's there smiling, it just makes it all the more worthwhile :-)

Meh... Zidane and Garnet was great as well. She was a princess and Zidane got to get over himself to be with her. The whole peasant and queen is there. Also their story is the same as the play "I want to be your canary" one.
Also, the ending was priceless.
Squall was the greatest character in his game, followed close by Rinoa and Irvine (Irvine is my opinion, because the guy is simply hilarious) and I found Squall annoying to her at times. He has his moments though.
Tidus and Yuna were a great couple since the beginning. Cecil was actually together with Rosa? He is so stoic i had trouble feeling it. And say it was because of the game's age is no excuse. Yang and his wife were more believable as a couple than a few I know in real life.
Cloud has no woman, even though the game tries to push one his way.
You should add Locke and celes, they are nice couple and love story too

This song and music video has always been played in a cable tv chatroom in the Philippines in the early 2000's. This song is truly popular back in the day especially in the night until the next morning. They played it at least 20 or 25 times. The sequence of playtime is this song then another song then another song and this song again.

My most favorite song ever. 😊❤ The first time I've heard this song was when I was a kid and so I find it odd why it made me cry and was looking to hear it again and again. It had so much emotion to it sort of like happy but sad and also a certain kind of longing. It's so captivating. Only after when I grew up I finally understood why. The scene where Laguna put the ring on Raine and visited her grave was really touching. Squall and Rinoa kissing on the balcony under the Ragnarok. 😳 The most romantic Final Fantasy 💜 Squall is so hot and Rinoa is the most beautiful realistic human ever designed in FF. Very touching and unique. There's nothing else like it. 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
