    Something others have said I want to stress: Nadu is much better in paper than on mtgo simply because of the clock and clicking. Every day I see content from many decks where people lose to the timer in situations where they'd be winning. Nadu is in this category by virtue of being a nondeterministic combo that relies on drawing your entire deck multiple clicks per card, one card at a time.

  • @cameronmoerer6244
    @cameronmoerer6244 2 месяца назад +5

    A huge factor that people seem to forget is...people hate playing nadu online. It's boring and eats up the clock. The numbers it's putting up online doesn't reflect the actual playability of the deck. You then see things like the NRG this past weekend and 15 of the top 32 were Nadu, and half the top 8 was nadu, and again, nadu won. Very similar to the Pro Tour. Also, Wizards has stated they don't want a single card to dominate a format so much to the point that it's in so many decks. The meta right now is: Play nadu (with or without one ring), play something that's not nadu with the one ring, play mono black which can also go with or without one ring, but generally uses it, OR play something to get under these decks like boros energy. I don't feel like that's particularly diverse for a card to see such a metagame share. The One Ring, Nadu, and Grief should all go. That's the only way to diversify the format again.

  • @otakuamerican5190

    In modern, The big difference between grief and one ring is one is way easier to interact with the other. And considering not every deck can out an indestructible artifact that give you protection for a turn and will draw you three extra cards in addition to your draw by tapping it twice. At least grief ends games the one ring keeps games going. Leading to a lot more time in rounds. Theirs one card that’s in almost every modern deck and guess what it’s not grief. Hell more decks have the other elementals featured then grief. Like grief exists primarily in reanimation strategy’s which have a lot of answers.

    • @MisterGrittle
      @MisterGrittle 2 месяца назад +1

      Also you have to kinda build a deck around grief. You have to have a number cards useful enough to be used in the deck while useless enough to be pitch fodder for grief, Thoughtseize is honestly easier to slot in because of that (4 Grief, 4 Not dead after all vs using just 4 thoughtseize and 4 cards that could be used for something else).

    Grief IS absolutely a format warping problem card. I mean, Thoughtseize was very heavily played ever since its first printing, and grief is a force of will equivalent of the same effect, with no life loss, and can be abused with flicker/blink/reanimate spells, even for one mana.
    I was saying thoughtseize needed to be banned instead of faithless looting back when that was happening. Thoughtseize effects are THE BEST way to deal with almost any problematic spell your opponent can have. If we printed a 1 mana destroy target nonland permanent before it was cast, it would be thoughtseize; and that's not even mentioning the information you get from looking at your opponent's hand. (I swear, if I see some idiot in the comments saying "yeah well it doesn't see the card you draw" - topdecking a good card is an out to every situation, assuming that good card is in your deck. there is no argument to be had concerning the weaknesses of thoughseize effects; they have so few it doesn't matter)
    Grief IS busted, and anyone who doesn't think so does not understand mtg very well. it IS a format warper in modern, PERIOD. Thoughtseize warped the format somewhat but grief is just braindead busted by comparison.

      Grief is busted but having to choose between drawing cards or discard. The ring is more powerful. Drawing cards is always better and will always be stronger. It's the same reason Uro was banned and Kroxa wasn't. drawing cards.
      I know Discard feels bad and drawing feels good, but discard isn't that strong when you draw 10 cards off One Ring lol

    Grief is very oppressive in Legacy, absolutely, but what is it actually doing in Modern? I guess it sits in the mono-black shell but the broken card fuelling that deck there is clearly Necrodominance. Maybe WOTC bans grief just so they don't have to ban Necro but if they do I think that would be absolutely silly.

      Grief is miserable in modern unhealthy play patterns that makes everyone on the receiving end want to rage quit the match

      @@voluntarism335 you can't really ban cards based on them being annoying. If that's your deisng philosophy then get rid of Counterspell.

    TOR is far worse than grief. I dont play either, I play against both, often. Getting double griefed turn 1 aint fun, sure. But putting in turns of work to get somewhere for TOR to give ya opponent all the advantage they need to win soon as it comes in, aye, that AINT FUN.
    Also, after seeing a few of your other vids, its seems obvious you're quite anti-discard. Yet play mill.... Mill is far worse than discard. There is literally nothing that can be done against mill. Theres basically no mill hate at all. Especially if you're playing Tashas. Like outside of being a fellow blue boy, you can do nottin against Tashas
    Oh and final opinion, counter magic is THEE most busted, ridiculous thing in Magic. Hence yano half the community hating on blue. Nobody ever said "dirty green player" yano? 😅

    Grief scam has never been good~ the feign death malakir has been in when the grief first came with mh2.
    Trading 3 cards for 2 cards with a creature on the board was not very spectacular when everyone just went for midrange and grind for value.
    It is now people try to go for combo ~~~ that it felt a little more oppressive. However, it is just a phase~~~

      A card being expensive is not a legitimate reason to ban it in a Competitive format like Modern. Even if The One Ring was $10,000 it shouldn't be banned in Modern.
