I saw an ad here in Ireland for a beer called "Birra Moretti". The ad is noticeable in that it's not diverse at all. It depicts a typical Sicilian village and locals moving a load of tables and chairs up and down hills so they can all enjoy a day out having a beer in the idyllic Italian village. The ad is complete with Italian music in the background. The text on the ad states "brewed In Ireland". It's an Irish beer promoted as an Italian beer.
How odd, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine hasn’t drastically affected the prices of things there in Finland- like we have been told here in the UK. We are told Brexit, c19 and Ukraine have all been responsible for spiralling prices in the last few years. Shareholders of Tesco doing well though
Go to Thailand. Eating out and gas and electric are dog cheap out there. You can get curry rice and a drink for just 2.50. Europe is expensive but Britain is socking its people dry

The reason why alcohol products are so heavily taxed here is because governments love people, especially Sir Kier Starmer in the UK. He's just trying to protect us and prevent us from drinking too much.
Quite an informative video on truth in advertising, Nigel. Here in the USA, we experience the same disparity in foodstuffs at the grocery store. According to the S chain in Finland there has not been any significant change in the consumption of alcoholic beverages since the alcohol law was relaxed. The uk also has minimum unit pricing for alcohol. 65p in Scotland and 50p in England and Wales. Minimum unit pricing supposedly aims to reduce alcohol-related harm by making alcohol less affordable but I'm pretty sure alcoholics would still pay the price no matter what. The unintended consequences being that they probably spend less money on food.
Also the nanny state in Scotland doesn't allow "irresponsible drink promotions" 🤡such as buy one, get one free or three for the price of two. I therefore buy my real ale in a supermarked in England before travelling up to Scotland.
I worked in the brewing industry for many years in the UK and Europe. The one thing that I saw was, the decline of taste and ABV of beers brewed ,under licence in the UK, was a distinct lowering of quality and ABV. Heineken was the first followed by Stella Artois and as for Carlsberg..... You'd be better off drinking dish water.
I think that many Finns hardly drink at all, and many more have long periods where they don't drink. But, when they do drink, they can drink at lot over a number of hours.
SORRY brother, bad news, I have been consuming beer for decades. ALL !!!!! so called mainstream beer including so called international brands has been watered down since the early 2000's. #Fact ! p.s sadly usually watered down with fluoride water......
I recently noticed that they are also selling a lot more wine in the supermarket now that the allowable alcohol content has risen to 8%. This is good news because it actually tastes the same as the same brand in the ALKO store. What is your preferred Finnish beer ~ Karhu?
Coors beer does the same. It was pretty good beer when we drank it back in the early 60s, tho I'm no connoisseur but after a hot job it was nice, and was brewed in neighbor to the south, Colorado, with Rocky Mountain water. Now it's brewed all over the country with local tap water but still falsely advertised to be brewed with Rocky Mtn spring water. Maybe they eye dropper a drop or two into each batch now. "Righteousness exalteth a nation but sin is a reproach to any people." Satan is the father of lies and of liars too.
I think anything 5% or above now gets taxed heavily that's why all the old nice beers seemed to drop down to around 4.5% all at the same time. I think the best description I've heard of this is "shrinkflation", the weight of everything is shrinking, can't even make a sandwich out of a bag of crisps anymore, remember when we were kids if you got a wagon wheel it would take two of you to roll it out of the kitchen, nowadays it barely fits in the palm of your hands!
When the game of Monopoly (direct or via Cartel) is finally won and the political-oligarchic framework is completely rigged, fraud is the norm. So too is most evil crime and treason. Hence, the market mechanism and capitalism is destroyed by its most criminally successful participators. Intelligent balance - what happened to it?
John, your analysis is fundamentally Marxist. You assume that there will always either be monopoly or oligopoly. This may be true if there is government regulation, which acts as a barrier to entry. However, the underlying cause of the high prices and profits is government regulation. In a free market, there are no regulations, so if an incumbent charges customers too much, new entrants will join the market and undercut the incumbents.
Our Gov no longer regulate big Business, because they are now owned by them. Hence "the cost of living crisis". Wave that blue and yellow flag and blame Russia we are told😂. loading up my fridge with Fullers Black Cab Stout 4.7. Some other Fullers Beers are 8.4. To strong for an OAP 😃.
