  • This last season I started fishing with a new Okuma surfcast combo, it's nice and light, strong and built for the surf. So far I have had some insane fishing from the sand and have really put it to the test and yet to fault it in any way. I thought I would just put this quick vid together for those that were wanting to know what the rod and reel is I fish with from the sand.

      Yep their mid to top range is great - those little Andros are quite nice, you may like the new Cavalla that's due out next season - it's the replacement to the metaloid :-)

      Okuma run a few top water rods that would probably work for you - there's a ne model also due out early to mid Sep called the Okuma Kotare

    Which of these 2 are the best Kotare or Nano Matrix i need buy a new Rod for my dad ..Cheers

      Hi WB
      The Kotare is the new generation but there's nothing wrong with the nanomatrix, both are a fast action and super light. The Kotare has the LR guides which should give a little more distance and is 46 ton graphite. Both will catch the same fish so I would say really comes down to price or you could go between the two and grab the nanomatrix Mad Dog which has the LR guides as well as a sliding reel seat so you can set it to your own comfort.

    Just a question why do you guys in NZ have the reel so high up the rod? I have seen some vids where people either are winding in a fish with the reel up around face height or the butt between their legs because the reels are mounted that high. The South African guys do the opposite and have the reel low on the rod so they can comfortably wind the reel down at their waist and have their power arm up the rod for leverage, also better for long distance casting with the reel low.

    • @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
      @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing  4 года назад

      Hi JC
      There are different reasons but also the Nanomatrix mad dog you can adjust the reel seat to where you want it on the but section which is pretty cool so you can mount it low or high - one main reason but I don't do it is the reel keen guys here on the west coast walk out to chest deep before casting or cross a chest deep channel to an outer bank but batling you is sometimes 2-3ft waves that you jump over holding the end of the rod - this keeps the reel way up out of the splashing of the salt water - also when se=itting the rod in a holder out here on the west coast it can be windy with lots of black sand sweeping across the rod - the high seat keeps the reel up out of that. Setting the rod in the rocks the reel stay well away from the water...

      @@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing Cheers mate, yeah makes sense, that rod looks sweet, what sort of coin are they asking for them? I have been buying a bit of gear lately from Kiwi online sites, good prices and quick postage plus the thing that impresses me is the amount of gear that is surf fishing specific. Cheers bro
