@@stawberrychappell Heelll nooo! I don’t see what so special about her, that she needs her own spin-off movie. If anyone needed to have their own movie. It should’ve been Jane, she’s more interesting than Riley. (in my opinion)
@@stawberrychappell Exactly, she’s more interested to me then Riley. I think she got a bit depth in her more character, as you could empathised with her like. How she was treated and ignored by her family, as you feel for her pain when seem to she exist. As I think her family doesn’t appreciate her or care her feeling, as she seem to be background shadow to them. While I don’t find Riley interested in the movie, as her seem to serve one purpose. To make Harper look bad, as she seem to be one dimension. That all she is to me as character doesn’t have much development, in the movie for me to care about her as a character. Unlike Jane, I could relate and understand. When a family doesn’t seem to understand you, or doesn’t understand your feelings. As I get ignored by my family a lot, so I can relate to her character. So I would rather have a movie about Jane then Riley.
Just found your channel and been eating up all these reactions. Thank you!! Some movies on this list are incredibly underrated and I’ve seen really good comment suggestions too so I hope you look into them! Excited for more :D
Even without the fact that it’s a rom-com and thus it needs a happy ending to conform to the genre, I knew the dad was going to fully accept his daughters because you don’t cast a gay man to play a homophobe. You just don’t lol
I'm not going to defend Harper for obvious reasons, I'm just going to say that when you live far away from where you grew up and you go back to your childhood home for a visit, it's typical to start behaving the way you used to when you lived there. And this is subconscious and it's not something you want to do. I see Harper here behaving more like her teenage self, with her insecurities and fears, with her family and her childhood friends. And not like her adult self that Abby loves.
i have sympathy for that but that reasoning does not explain the majority of the shitty things she does in the movie so it's... very weak to say that 😭
@@ninetailskwami I started my comment by saying "I'm not defending Harper for obvious reasons". I didn't even follow with a "but" after that. I'm just pointing something out about her situation and a phenomenon that happens to many adults when going back to their childhood home for a visit, reverting to their childhood self. In Harper's case now add fear and shame with internalized homophobia into the mix. So yeah, I do have sympathy for her because of that but I'm not defending her because she acted like an ass. Understanding something doesn't automatically justify it.
@ i know, i was just saying that the movie itself is weird bc u naturally want to have that empathy for her, particularly as a queer viewer who's been through similar things, but then 95% of the things that piss u off about her in the film cannot be explained by said reasoning and it feels like those red flags get tossed away in the wind bc she decided to come out after someone else already outed her 😭 like whyyy lmao
@ninetailskwami hehehe yeah, that's true! Harper made me want to scream at my screen more than once... And the way she treated Abby made it almost impossible to ship them together. I think her character could have been written better.
What I don’t like about this movie is that, we don’t get any focus or storyline of Harper. Explanation why she acting the way she is, as we just supposed to dislike and hates. Because what Riley said about, while we don’t get any of Harper. Side of the story to see if it even true, we supposed to take Riley words for it. Or because Harper either ignored and not spending time with Abby, I just think that Harper was done and written dirty in the whole movie. Which was sort of unfair and wasn’t done well as I think, Harper’s family got a little bit more scene time or focus. Even I think Riley got more screen time than Harper, who was supposed to be Abby love interest not Riley. I also, don’t understand why a lot of people wants Abby to be with a complete stranger that, she just met and hardly know that person that much. All we know she could be as bad as Harper or Riley have a another side of her, because what happened her in the past by Harper doesn’t make her any better then Harper. Like I said, Abby just met Riley like a few days ago. Be good reason to consider that Abby should go with a complete stranger, that she hardly knows about her that much or that well. Just because she told a story about, what happened to her and how we know. That she didn’t just made it up, just cause tension as like I said. We don’t get anything side of Harper the story, we just supposed to take Riley’s words. We just supposed hates Harper for that, just Riley said so to Abby that it is the fact.
I’m a bisexual guy with some genderqueer tendencies and the way Harper grew up is almost exactly the same as mine, except I was in New Orleans. Big parties, lots of money, lots of fake people. Coming out made me a pariah, but it was worth it in the end.
oh god what even is this movie I closed the tab after Harper hung out with her ex-boyfriend in the bar and got mad at Abby like she had a say in it. Be so for real! If Plaza hadn't starred in the show, I would've given up at the first few minutes just seeing all of the couple's red flags.
I don’t think that Harper was the problem, I think Abby is the problem as I think. She kinda weak of a person in my opinion, because she keep on accepted and agreed to everything. I don’t think Harper was even try that hard, convincing Abby to do anything or everything. I mean, Harper didn’t have or need to manipulated Abby. (It not she a abuser of a person or anything.) But Abby just quickly accepted it without, a second thought for she made a decision. Like when she finally decided to leave, after the crap she gone through and everything. She quickly to accept to stay, after Harper ask her too without. Any real effort to convince her. Abby only decided to leave for good, after she finally see the real Harper. And she again accepted Harper apology and forgave her, without Harper even have try hard to convince Abby. She also forgiven the twin kids for what, they to her and accepted their apology. Honestly, I couldn’t feels that sorry for Abby, if she was that easy to convince. By not a good person that didn’t, need to try that hard to convince her. I don’t think Harper a manipulator, because she never force Abby into anything. Abby just easily accept and agreed to it. Sure Harper maybe a terrible person, but she isn’t that of bad person. She just made a bad decision in her life, even though she it doesn’t excuse. What she had done to Riley in the past, but she isn’t perfect and she isn’t evil neither.
I think in my opinion I don’t think that Harper was that, unlikable or even that hatable character. I just think that her character wasn’t written that well and made her a bad guy, pretty much for no reason as I think that was kind of pretty lame. And the written to make Abby more likeable and more relatable to her character, didn’t give Harper any proper development in the whole story.
We need a sequel with Riley as the protagonist
Hell no!

Yeah I agree. She gets a lot of hate (most of it deserved) but I have a lot of sympathy for her as someone who comes from a homophobic family.

I'm going to throw two suggestion out there for your list and it's one is called Desert Hearts and the other is called Disobedience.
You should add Saving Face to your list! Brilliant, Incredible, Amazing, Show Stopping...

I regocnise a Glee reference when I hear one! xD
I'm with you. Ignoring representation or whatever, the movie just wasn't that interesting or memorable. I think Carol will be a better watch.
