So the minute I saw Chappell get into controversy after she pleaded with her fans to stop being creepy, I was really proud of her. She probably went down the exact same rabbit hole I did and is doing what she must do in order to protect herself. As someone who wants to work as an artist, I have always been scared of the day I might become famous because that would mean no longer having privacy. And like Chappell, I’m a very confrontational person who acts out of impulse and gets stressed from people yelling around me. So I, along with many other artists are thankful to her for speaking up. I just also want to point out that the same people who were posting “free britney” on twitter from 2019-2021 are the same people criticizing Chappell for placing boundaries, so think about that.

here are my thoughts to add on to urs since i agree with everything: firstly i think chappell is amazing for setting boundaries i think people need to understand that celebs are humans too and deserve boundaries. i don't understand why people miss interrupted her setting boundaries as hating fans. i think they have every right to say no to photos, autographs whenever, various reasons too like at an inappropriate time, not being ip to taking photos, etc then, + more. stalking harassing, etc on the other hand is so so weird like what even. secondly with her cancelling on the festival like you stated there are OTHER artists who were performing there its a festival and its a little silly to me only buying tickets to see one of the artists. i think chappell was right to cancel, as mental health, and health in general should be taken care of, she shouldn't have had to go out there in a state where she was not doing well, etc. i saw people comparing it to taylor as taylor can "do it with a broken heart" and while i understand what they are saying taylor shouldn't have had to do that. no one should. with chappell.. also considering that she has bipolar 2 that can factor into things effecting her more, and actually could be unsafe for her to perform. she was right to take time to focus on her health. i understand the disappointment of the cancellation obv its okay to be upset bc thats valid i would be too, whats not okay is to hate on someone and stuff and go as far as some people did JUST for putting their health first when they need it. lastly i think chappell is doing what almost no celebs have done, setting boundaries, speaking up on that sort of thing. its so sad that alot of celebs may feel as they cannot have normal basic boundaries, etc.

The more she stands up for herself and sets boundaries and does it her way, the more I respect and appreciate her. No one "owns" her and this mentality that is "screen economy," corporatist mentality that goes way beyond just her but is running all the young hardworking generations into the ground. It needs to stop, this mentality. The ultra wealthy like the tip top and monopolists like "ticketmaster," etc., drive this mentality for their own profit and try to turn everyone into a commodity. Yeah I can understand that to an extent but people are neglecting that democrats in America aren't even leftists, their centre right. Just because it's normalized doesn't mean it's how it should be. This is the perfect example of that. It's normalized that celebrities are hounded by "fans" and reporters and photographers constantly. It's normalized that lots of the most extreme cases of this target the celebrities that are young, or women, or queer, or mentally ill, or all of the above like Chappell Roan is. It's normalized that celebrites are expected to work 24/7, never turn down a picture or autograph, never cancel a show, never get upset or show that they are human. All of these things are normalized but that doesn't mean they should be normal. We need to put in the work to change this and that is exactly what Chappell Roan is doing and I absolutely love her for that. She's facing so much backlash that she absolutely should not be facing, but I'm glad she spoke up anyway. She is paving the way for other celebrities to put their foot down as well. She is doing the hard work and facing the backlash to normalize setting boundaries. Feature artists will have an easier time resisting toxic fan culture because of her and that is an incredible legacy to have, even if it makes her remembered as that one celeb who screamed at a photographer at an event.

I have a lot of issues with certain artists like say Taylor Swift, but one thing we have to acknowledge even if we have valid reason to dislike an artist, them prioritizing their health or putting boundaries in place are NOT valid reasons to hate on artists. Theres many artists i choose not to sypport for a myriad of reasons, but the amount of hate mostly women recieve in this industry simply for being a woman or fem presenting person who doesn't care what haters think is horrifying. The response to Chappell pulling out of a festival shocked me, personally i would NEVER buy plane tickets and 300+ dollar festival tickets if i knew my entire experience would be ruined if one person didnt show up. If you want to see one person dont risk a festival, save up and wait for the next tour thats the basic smart thing to do. Even if you got the festival tickets and you're sad you're not gonna see your favorite artist thats okay, shaming them for not giving you refunds is disgusting. You dont deserve a refund for your lack of planning. The festival wasnt canceled there are so many artists at that festival i wouldve payed thousands to see, and people were non stop shitting on Chappell for having the audacity to put her health first, which is her right.

In my opinion, Chappell is doing super, she's being real and honest and holding her ground. The more she stands up for herself and sets boundaries and does it her way, the more I respect and appreciate her. No one "owns" her and this mentality that is "screen economy," corporatist mentality that goes way beyond just her but is running all the young hardworking generations into the ground. It needs to stop, this mentality. The ultra wealthy like the tip top and monopolists like "ticketmaster," etc., drive this mentality for their own profit and try to turn everyone into a commodity. Everyone has to set boundaries in such an environment. To be clear, no one "owns" another person, whether they're an artist, athlete, etc.

Yeah I can understand that to an extent but people are neglecting that democrats in America aren't even leftists, their centre right. So she's not talking about 'both sides' in terms of politics, she's talking about conservatism in general because the American political system doesn't allow actual leftist groups as an option to vote for. I 100% agree with her on how she spoke about the election and FFS democrats should do better to touch their voting base than coerce celebrity endorsement. Just because it's normalized doesn't mean it's how it should be. This is the perfect example of that. It's normalized that celebrities are hounded by "fans" and reporters and photographers constantly. It's normalized that lots of the most extreme cases of this target the celebrities that are young, or women, or queer, or mentally ill, or all of the above like Chappell Roan is. It's normalized that celebrites are expected to work 24/7, never turn down a picture or autograph, never cancel a show, never get upset or show that they are human. All of these things are normalized but that doesn't mean they should be normal. We need to put in the work to change this and that is exactly what Chappell Roan is doing and I absolutely love her for that. She's facing so much backlash that she absolutely should not be facing, but I'm glad she spoke up anyway. She is paving the way for other celebrities to put their foot down as well. She is doing the hard work and facing the backlash to normalize setting boundaries. Feature artists will have an easier time resisting toxic fan culture because of her and that is an incredible legacy to have, even if it makes her remembered as that one celeb who screamed at a photographer at an event.

I have a lot of issues with certain artists like say Taylor Swift, but one thing we have to acknowledge even if we have valid reason to dislike an artist, them prioritizing their health or putting boundaries in place are NOT valid reasons to hate on artists.
Theres many artists i choose not to sypport for a myriad of reasons, but the amount of hate mostly women recieve in this industry simply for being a woman or fem presenting person who doesn't care what haters think is horrifying.
The response to Chappell pulling out of a festival shocked me, personally i would NEVER buy plane tickets and 300+ dollar festival tickets if i knew my entire experience would be ruined if one person didnt show up. If you want to see one person dont risk a festival, save up and wait for the next tour thats the basic smart thing to do. Even if you got the festival tickets and you're sad you're not gonna see your favorite artist thats okay, shaming them for not giving you refunds is disgusting. You dont deserve a refund for your lack of planning. The festival wasnt canceled there are so many artists at that festival i wouldve payed thousands to see, and people were non stop shitting on Chappell for having the audacity to put her health first, which is her right.

This is what I was thinking, but I'm just worried about just how long the "fall" might actually take. The literal worst part for me in this saga was the Bill Maher thing which iirc happened days after this video was posted.
