I don’t understand why you would wants Abby to be with Riley, sure they bond and share the same thing about Harper. But is reason the they should end together, just because Abby relationship with Harper is not going well. The way it is, plus I see no spark between them. Justice for Riley, Abby and Jane! Jane was Austistic coded and I felt like her and also felt bad because everyone treated her as a joke. Riley and Abby had chemistry and weren't afraid of being out.
You aren’t alone in how you feel about Harper. My teen and I love this movie, mostly because of Dan Levy. He never disappoints. We wanted Abby to end up with Riley as well. We will continue to watch this every year, and we will never change our minds about Harper lol. 😂
I think people would have liked Harper a lot more if, in the beginning, the movie would have taken 5-10 more minutes showing the two being a happy, healthy couple. Show us the Harper Abby fell in love with first.
48:07 Same. This movie frustrated me so much. Jane was the only person from that family I liked, and the parents never made it seem like they appreciated her even after the “happy ending”. I forgive NO ONE. 😂
This movie is worth the watch for Dan Levy’s bit of dialogue toward the end. The ending to this movie though… 😤 I still can’t even with Harper, all these years later lol
Omg, that insight from Dan Levy brought me to tears (and yes, I’m saying this as a straight woman 😂) Straight, trans, gay, bi etc … We often do not get a choice in whom our hearts fall in love with, but we DO have a choice in who we choose to BE with. And we ALL deserve to be with someone who loves us for our authentic selves. Harper is an easy character to hate in this movie and until he said that to Abby I didn’t realize just how much I was being just as judgy af of Harper. Her fear is not a joke. It’s difficult to accept but not difficult to understand. It took me back to the moment she told Abby that her parents’ love was not “free.” And that is truly tragic 😢
This has become my yearly must-watch holiday movie, lmao. I don’t truly understand why considering how much second hand embarrassment I experience throughout the whole thing, yet here I am, every year watching it at least once. 🤣
I can't believe how annoyed I still am, because Abby and Riley didn't end up together. Also, there's something about Kristen Stewart's voice in this movie that does things to me, I don't know, it's just... so sexy??? And that moment where she tells Harper she's done, at the party? Ridiculously obsessed with that as well. I know this is stressing and everything, but for some reason this movie was my comfort watch in 2022, I'd watch it every single day in December that year, I learned the dialogues and everything... UGH, great video, as usual, you're like the only channel I watch commentaries from (and I'm obsessed with your outfits today! Beautiful colors!). Much love to you 💜

Station Eleven might be one of the best HBO series of all time in my humble opinion! Danielle Deadwyler was robbed of an Emmy nomination. Her monologue was brilliant!
What makes me so upset Is Harper forced her girlfriend to go back in the closet and completely iced her out during the holiday… she told her family that her girlfriend was her friend but she was basically ignoring her girlfriend the entire stay.
I almost feel sorry for the filmmakers on this one, because like think about it: they had to know that if they cast Aubrey Plaza in that role, audiences would IMMEDIATELY adore her and see that she is CLEARLY the superior love-interest option, which makes the ending of the movie feel disappointing. BUT on the other hand, how could you say NO to casting Aubrey Plaza in your movie, if you had the chance????
6:46 My heart aches for Abby in this scene because she is so happy and optimistic and looking forward to sharing a life with Harper. And then the car scene happens. And then everything else happens.
I don’t think that Harper was the problem in the movie, I think Abby was the in the movie in the problem. As I think she kinda weak of a person in my opinion, because she keeps on accepted and agreed to everything. I don’t think Harper was even try that hard to convince, Abby to do anything or everything she asks her to do. I mean, Harper didn’t have or need to manipulated Abby. (It not like she was a abuser of a person, towards her girlfriend or anything.) But Abby just quickly accepted it in a second, without a second thought before she made a decision. Like when she finally decided to leave, after the crap she gone through and everything. She quickly to accept and forgive her, stay after Harper ask her too without any real effort.convince her too and Abby only decided to leave for good, after she finally see the real Harper. But then, she again accepted Harper apology and forgave her. Without Harper even have trying that, hard to convince Abby to her back. She also forgiven the twin kids for what, they did to her and accepted their apology. Honestly, I couldn’t feels that sorry for Abby, if she was that easy to convince. By not a good person that didn’t, need to try that hard to convince her. I don’t think Harper was a manipulator, because she never force Abby into anything. Abby just easily accept and agreed to it. Sure Harper maybe a terrible person, but she isn’t that of bad person. She just made a bad decision in her life, even though she it doesn’t excuse. What she had done to Riley in the past, but she isn’t perfect and she isn’t evil neither.

LOl, I've watched this movie twice. OMG Harper pissed me off. The fact that she waiting until the were at her family's home before giving Abby the heads up on what she was walking into was just wrong. Especially since her family kind of sucks. I remember watching this thinking nope I'd totally be trying to figure a way to bail. Like I can't be the only one who was secretly hoping she'd just drop Harper and get to know Riley better. Granted I've never had to deal with the anxiety of being gay and having to come out to my love ones hoping they would accept me with open arms, but regardless she is the one who invited Abby to come home to meet her family. Put on your big girl panties and take some responsibility for the hell you put the person you supposedly love in with. Like it isn't bad enough that she has to be reduced to the shop lifting orphan roommate friend by the whole family. For Haper to ignore her the whole trip and bail on her when she doesn't even know anyone there is a shit move. I'm sorry but I with you guys, I don't think I'd be able to go back to that house either. I probably would of packed up my crap and left with John. Also that whole scene when they're discussing their experience coming out to their parents totally makes me tear up. I don't have any children but I couldn't even imagine not showing my kid love and support even after coming out. My goddaughter is Bisexual. Do I care? No because it doesn't change who she is. I still love her regardless and she knows that. It literally breaks my heart that there are people out there who react in such disdain for their own children. Honestly there are worst things you could become and being gay is your pushing point? It blows my mind.
I disagree that being in her 30s means she should be able to live for herself by now. If you're taught the only way to receive love from your family is to earn it then it's hard to learn to live for yourself and not them. Like it's doable but it takes time and a real commitment to unlearning the messed up stuff you internalised in childhood (and in my experience lots of therapy, hahaha). That said - being closeted because of her family does not excuse a lot of her actions and behaviours in this film and how unapologetic she is about it all. So like - I still dislike this film and think they should have broken up but I can empathise with the motives if not the actions.
Thank you for saying everything I felt when I watched this movie for the first time! This movie is so difficult to watch. I want to like it because it's a lesbian Christmas movie and I was so excited for it before it came out, but so much of it just frustrates me, especially how Harper treats Abby, and the whole family, both how they treat each other and especially Jane. Jane deserved so much more. I agree that Abby should have ended up with Riley (and also the two of them are just so hot, it's insane how good they look together). They had a lot more chemistry imo than Harper and Abby.
Love this film. I'm not gay but i do feel for everyone in this story. I do get why nearly everyone bags on how bad Harper's behaviour is, but i see why she does what she does. I love the comedy in this plus the little background comedy that appear in this film, if your not paying attention they'll pass you by😅 Also i totally think that McKenzie Davis is an amazing actress, very versatile. ❤❤
No ..... But really. It's horror and trauma. And Mackenzie Davis having that blank staring look for half the movie while pretending to be anything but straight. It should really be mandatory viewing for Halloween
Why would in the hell you want Abby be with a complete stranger, that Abby only met and know each other for about 2 to 3 days to them to ending up together as the couple.
@@Aaron-MackHartford I agreed, Abby should have be single and not end up with Riley. That not sense for Abby to be with someone, who met and know each other for about 2-3 days ago. As we don’t know, if Riley could be bad in the inside.
I had to stop watching this after the car scene when Kristen found out that the parents didn't know about the relationship. How bad could it be??? That whole situation is F***ED up!!!
This is such an interesting film. I love it, even though it’s obviously complicated & messy. I think people watching this movie do a lot of assuming when it comes to Aubrey’s character. She’s human. She probably has her own secrets & skeletons too. Also, you can’t tell people who to love. People will stay with someone even if they’re messy or broken or hurt them. Most people do. I think the main characters are infuriating because this story is very relatable in some ways (though it goes to the extreme with making it at Christmas & the mayoral campaign, etc.). I like that the characters are unlikable at times. The kids even. Kids do that. LOTS of kids do that or similar shit. Anyone telling you different is lying or are more like the parents in this movie than they want to face. You guys should watch Single All The Way, as it’s so much better!
What I don’t like about the movie is that, we don’t get any focus or storyline of Harper. Explanation why she acting the way she is, as we just supposed to dislike and hates. Because what Riley said about, while we don’t get any of Harper. Side of the story to see if it even true or not, we supposed accept Riley words for it. Or because Harper either ignored and not spending time with Abby. I just think that Harper was done and written dirty in the whole movie, which was sort of unfair and wasn’t done well as I think. Harper’s family got a little bit more scene time or focus. Even I think Riley got more screen time than Harper, who supported to a minor character and not meant to that important. While Harper who supposed to be Abby love interest not Riley. I also, don’t understand why a lot of people in a comment. Wants Abby to be with a complete stranger, that she just met and hardly know that much. All we know she could be as bad as Harper or Riley have an another side of her, just because what happened her in the past by Harper doesn’t make her any better then Harper. Like I said, Abby just met Riley like a few days ago. Be good an enough reason to consider that for Abby should go with, a complete stranger that she hardly knows about her. Because she told a story about, what happened with Harper. As how we know that she didn’t just made it up, just cause tension as like I said. As we don’t anything side of Harper the story, we just supposed to take Riley’s words. We just supposed hates Harper for that, just Riley said so to Abby to take it as the fact.
We saw it in theaters!! We will always go to see anything Kristen does in theaters but there’s a good possibility we will do a commentary on it at some point!
I'm on the toilet at work and this title alone makes me feel seen! When I get the chance to see it when I'm on my lunch or off, I will update with my feelings about this movie as a bisexual woman who wanted a wlw movie that didn't deal with us being hidden, killed, having a sexless romance or cheating on a dude to be with the other woman. Edit: Rewatching this with you guys, my blood is boiling! What gets me is that Harper forced Abby back into the closet. Instead of being honest with her girlfriend, she lied to her for at least a year about her parents being okay. Yes, everyone's story is different but the fact she hid Abby like an unwanted pregnancy? And then forced herself back into Abby's good graces by following her to the gas station and saying, "I love you, I did all this stuff." No, you don't get brownie points for coming out when it was just your family. Because you threw her under the bus when the house was full of people. And then to keep pestering her when Abby said, "We're broken up." Abby honestly should have gotten her stuff and then told Harper they were done. That's the smart, safe thing to do when you are leaving a partner. Her actions alone would have had me already packed and placing my bags into his car when he told me to get my things. Yes, she could have tried to stop me but if all my stuff is going into his car, she wouldn't have risked making a scene in front of people. For Abby to accept the bullshit her girlfriend gave her and that ending? It just made me feel gross. I want a WLW where it's a meet cute, and I know that C.D said in an interview why she did what she did but I just can't. It makes me upset. I hate Harper and I really hate Solane and her thieving kids. Can we talk about the fact that the kleptos are Black children? Why was that a thing?
I watched Happiest Season for the first time a couple months back. And yeah, I f**king hate Harper (and her family, except Jane). You said what I said to a friend after watching it, if Harper is unable to come out... fine, but you do not drag someone as kind as Abby (or even Riley) into it with you. And I love Dan, but even John urging Abby to give Harper a second chance (or fifth chance?) is terrible friend behaviour. I really really want a Happiest Season 2, where Riley takes Abby away from what will be a terrible marriage to Harper. Abby and Riley (Kristen and Aubrey) are the only good part

I'd been debating whether to try a rewatch of this and i am SO glad i didn't. Even just from your edit i realised how much enraging stuff i'd actually forgotten - didn't think the movie could be even worse than i rememberd 😂 With a cast like this, it should have been a home run for a satisfying queer, tropey comfort holiday flick. It feels like halfway through the production someone grabbed the steering wheel and decided that Harper was the protagonist instead of Abby, but then changed hardly anything else to support that decision. Being afraid to come out does not give you a free pass to be a nightmare. They needed give Harper one or two less red flags if they wanted us to feel confident that the relationship has any potential to be healthy after this whole disaster. Also, maybe you don’t cast Aubrey Plaza as a viable alternative for Kristen Stewart in your queer holiday movie if that isn’t the outcome you want the gays to be rooting for...just saying! lol

Putting kristen and Aubrey in a movie and they DON'T end up together...... criminal.
Why would you want Abby be with a complete stranger, that Abby only met and know each other for about 2 to 3 days.
@jamie_ghost.johnson well, I didn't want her with harper and I also preferred Kristin and Audrey's "chemistry" 🤷
@@yakiddin I don’t want Abby be with Riley either, we don’t know what Riley like.
It would rather want her to be single.
This movie is so UGH!😂
They had a lot more chemistry imo than Harper and Abby.
never seen but it was great😍 and yes chey I would be upset too🙄 idk how Kristen's character gotten through it would've already aired it out.
Team Riley all the way !!!! ❤😂
Love it!!! Can you guys also do a reaction to Single All the Way... PLEASE?!?!
Love this film. I'm not gay but i do feel for everyone in this story.
I do get why nearly everyone bags on how bad Harper's behaviour is, but i see why she does what she does.
I love the comedy in this plus the little background comedy that appear in this film, if your not paying attention they'll pass you by😅
Also i totally think that McKenzie Davis is an amazing actress, very versatile. ❤❤
No ..... But really. It's horror and trauma. And Mackenzie Davis having that blank staring look for half the movie while pretending to be anything but straight. It should really be mandatory viewing for Halloween
that expains a lot lol
it's a universal truth that abby and Riley should have ended up together
Nah! Abby should’ve just been single and shouldn’t be either of them.
Aubrey Plaza is the only character as far as I'm concerned
This movie pisses me off so bad but I still watch it every year no 😅 but Abby and Riley should’ve ended up together.
Por siempre bella ❤❤❤❤❤
I Love Your Reaction My Favorite The Christmas Movie.
did you guys see the episode of american horror stories where this fab daddy is the lead role?
Victor Garber can STILL GET IT!!!!! 😛
Abby love was real thats why i liked the the end of the movie, not for Harper (she needs more acceptance) but i hope they don´t last XD
I'm begging y'all to watch LOVE LIES BLEEDING (i love when kristen stewart takes gay acting roles) (its one of my favourite movies pls)
We saw it in theaters!! We will always go to see anything Kristen does in theaters but there’s a good possibility we will do a commentary on it at some point!
You better watch out is a disturbing Christmas movie starring 14 year old Levi Miller
The way I wish Dan Levy also liked women (cries), I love him so much, he is husband lol
Funny...I'm a Leo and I don't forgive easily either lol
Another Kristen Stewart reaction!
I don’t understand why you would wants Abby to be with Riley, sure they bond and share the same thing about Harper. But is reason the they should end together, just because Abby relationship with Harper is not going well.
The way it is, plus I see no spark between them. I mean, Harper wasn’t a very good girlfriend. Lied about coming out to her parents, then lied in front of everybody and Abby.
But I don’t think Abby have any interest in Riley and I don’t think, Riley does either and I just think Riley fingers out. That Abby is Harper girlfriend and not her roommate and trying, to give Abby some company and understand her situation.
That I saw in movie and that all she was doing as I see don’t anything else. But that. Plus, I don’t think Riley want to to steal Abby away from Harper either.
Harper suck and I would honestly break up with her if this happened to me
I love to hate this movie
I'd been debating whether to try a rewatch of this and i am SO glad i didn't. Even just from your edit i realised how much enraging stuff i'd actually forgotten - didn't think the movie could be even worse than i rememberd 😂
With a cast like this, it should have been a home run for a satisfying queer, tropey comfort holiday flick.
Also, maybe you don’t cast Aubrey Plaza as a viable alternative for Kristen Stewart in your queer holiday movie if that isn’t the outcome you want the gays to be rooting for...just saying! lol
I hate this movie so much lol
Please watch But I’m a Cheerleader😊
This was so uncomfortable to watch 🚩🚩🚩🚩
