Given my exposure to AVI-8's general lineup, I was truly gobsmacked (not to mention relieved) by their tasteful approach to this series. For the price being asked, this is well done, and while, yes, it's quartz rather than mechanical, at least the movement chosen is clearly above-average in its technical approach. A well-timed review for the holiday, Jory!
Disregard the HATE. The are countless watches that celebrate warships, subs, battles and various heroes of wars. As a black man in America I find this tribute very tastefully done. $300 is not to unreasonable of a price. Great video.
I have the blue dial variant. I agree with your take on the strap. I swapped out the factory strap for a navy horween...I have another AVI-8 limited edition mecca-quartz tribute watch. I picked it up a couple of years ago and it keeps insane time. Like 2 seconds off, per year. That has a shitty leather band as well. But I like to support these guys. Great purpose and really nice watches that are affordable.
I have their Flyboy Engineer (the blue-ish one) and I absolutely love it... Except that it came with a very, very bad NH35 movement in it with ~60+ secs / day discrepancy. Try as I might I couldn't regulate it to anything even remotely acceptable... So I ordered a new NH35, swapped its guts, and after minimal regulation it became the most accurate watch in my collection, hitting a consistent ±2sec / day. It easily beats my COSC certified Tudor and Formex, and it gets quite a bit of my wrist time...
You right about AVI8, they usually give me Diesel vibes. I'm happy they "toned down" their usual style for a tribute to the Red Tails. BTW, why can't you say Nato?
I like some of the AVI-8 designs, but these day with sapphire being so inexpensive it's hard to classify $290.00 as reasonable using a $15.00 movement and mineral crystal. I can pick up a San Martin with the same movement and a sapphire crystal for $119.00. The same company own Spinnaker and other brands. (Avi-8 is owned by London-based Dartmouth Brands, which has a stable of seven watch brands including Earnshaw and Spinnaker. Dartmouth)

Not much coverage on this watch, thank you. Just bought one.
I saw an email on these awhile ago and like that they actually went with a more traditional design for the Tuskegee vs their more artsy dial concepts.
Just got this exact model for £80 brand new so looking forward to seeing it

The flyboy is incredible!

AVI-8, Dartmouth, Spinnaker, Thomas Earnshaw and others are owned by Solar Time Limited - a pretty large company based in Hong Kong
The tick, it's about 1.5hz?
Thanx 3T 🎉
NINO, please, even a 3 min video on the watches Swiss made I think thanks
This video was in my subs list and then disappeared, the other video you've posted didn't appear at all, algorithm playing playing up again
Good designs, many complains about this brand, Expensive for a simply battery quartz watch.
Like the looks. Wish it was mechanical
Where can we go to peacefully loot this watch ?
Needs saphire crystal for me to buy..
Can’t do mineral crystal. Once it’s scratched it’s done. Sapphire almost never scratches and acrylic can be easily polished. Gotta pass.
Really like the design, but ffs specs are bad. Should be half the price

AVI 8 watches are terrible quality. Saw one with the numbers floating around behind the crystal. Utter crap.
Sorry I have to click off after hearing it’s 40mm, I lose interest everytime 😢
Are you a partner with AVI.. I mean why do you push them so much.. any other brand brings a POS like this and you dont hesitate to roast it!
