Mr. Holt Hamilton knows how much his films mean to me, and I predict this will be as important to me as well.
Being a Native combat veteran, Mr. Hamilton's films have resonated with me from the first one I ever watched.
He has a way of nailing my feelings and putting them on celluloid, or digital these days I suppose. Either way, Mr. Hamilton has my support for his work which honors my way of thinking and the things I was taught as a boy and put them up for everyone to appreciate.

I adopted a rez dog he's german shepherd golden retriever mix and he's the best dog ever. He had been at the shelter 7 times and the final time his owners decided they didn't want him. He had gotten in trouble chasing (not killing) chickens he was allowed to roam free and was in danger of being killed by farmers . We met him at the shelter and fell in love he's so good walks great on the leash and is happy being a true house dog. I live in a small town just a block away from a rural area he loves going out walking a few miles then comes home and sleeps on the couch. Could not ask for a better dog.

To all of you stating solutions, law changes, cruelty by the Navajo's, and other criticisms, you should remember that you are talking about a community of a completely different culture. Most of these people have to haul water, drive miles for groceries, no electricity or toilets. They are doing things their way, but they do listen and are trying. Just like everywhere. You can have people working hard to get the problem solved, but if anyone thinks they can go into this community and use more force than what they are doing, is sorely mistaken. I love the Navajo people. They are wonderful people!

At 37:00 they confiscated dogs that had just been spayed and neutered only to KILL them! That one poor Grandma's sweet dog begged to get her dog back and the guy was laughing about it. It makes NO sense how some of those animal control officers seem to enjoy taking away people's pets!! This is so sad. My niece adopted a Rez dog and saved his life.

Yes, the ugly selfishness of keeping vicious dogs definitely needs to be dealt with! Yes, simple moral values deplete more with time.. children neglected & abused; attacked at home! @@HoltHamiltonFilms I want to raise money with my bead work this summer to buy dog food from a store by The Navajo Reservation and have some people pick it up then take it to the Rez. This way we can have some food for them for the winter.
No middle man or organization. I was thinking about Amazon, but it would be better to buy from a small business, maybe even one that is Indigenous owned. That way the money also helps the community.

There are two types of mange. That dog was in early stage of brought on by stress easily treated mange has had since birth, not deadly contracted and contract able to humans mange. It’d be great if these experts learned something about what they say. Simple cleaning with odoban area, as well as maybe diet water change, and bathing with dawn and cleaning vinegar in water stops the one type. The other needs stronger cleaner also, with stronger bathing, and mild medication, but more worry obviously about contact infection.

@25:18 educating the next generation of pet owners, an opportunity to pass on information and hopefully some will treat their animals and community with more respect. No one wants their child attacked, bitten or possibly killed, everyone loses even the animal involved. As dog owners we need to advocate for safety of not only our animal but for those in our community. My family has lost sheep to dog attacks, this was not on any reservation but an irresponsible neighbor, still we were profoundly affected by the loss of our flock.

This is so sad and brings tears to my eyes. Stop breeding and selling dogs until the existant strays are adopted. The real dog problems rest within coyotes, wolves and destructive killing animals like javelina and wild hogs. Anyone training a dog to be aggressive without a license for any reason should be fined and imprisoned and the fine should be enough to support the retraining of dogs and their livelihoods. To be a real fine, it should cost enough to cover five dogs for each dog that has been brought up aggressively unlicensed. People abandoning dogs should face the same thing - five or six dogs for each dog abandoned. We should respect and love our dogs and give them good homes. There are special needs people that need a dog and companies that need dogs for security and law enforcement that uses dogs should all contribute financially or in otner ways to support stray dogs. A business that needs a security dog must do the same. Appealing to public compassion for moey, food and donated land and buildings would really help a lot. All of these things I listed, working together with volunteers should be more than enough to handle the problem, if not charge a tax for each dog people own. We must have much more mercy and compassion for domestic animals, especially dogs.

Educate the children in the schools. They will take the new attitude home to the families. Make it a law that you cannot have an animal on the rez unless it is spayed/neutered, vaccinated and the entire guardian family has taken a course. You can't say you respect animals if you don't take care of them when you have a responsibility to, or allow them to suffer. This also occurs on Canadian Reservations. When I was in Saskatchewan, there was a problem with them attacking and killing children and the reserves didn't have the resources to deal with the problem.

Why are there not more spay and neuter clinics? Free! Education folks. In Mexico it’s the same. People think puppies are cute then when they get bigger out the door they go to the street. Animal control needs to be coordinating and doing the foot work for these communities. If they can coordinate here in Mexico these clinics then they can do it. ITS NOY THE DOGS FAULT ITS HUMANS FAULT. THEY ARE INNOCENT AND NATURAL.

"Why are there not more spay and neuter clinics?"
Natives think that neutering is cruel. They would rather have another litter of puppies to starve/freeze to death, get intentionally run over or shot.

I love Native American cultures/ beliefs, but this was hard to watch, I love dogs. Making me wish I could live on a Rez and have a big rescue in a small community.
This hurt my heart…I’ve always admired our Native American and Mexican cultures for their mans best friend soul approach to dogs and respecting them as the first line of defense. I’m sad 😞. The Creator is weeping too.
If you can abandon them and not be a responsible pet owner. Do not get one. But why not work with anyone who is willing to help every stray/ abandoned/ over population problem?
Why waste that opportunity also, to just turn around and round them up and murder them…or deliberately run them down and murder them!?
So many of them look like they would be great dogs.

when an issue is as explosive as this one, regarding stray animals, is presented, humans feel the need to divide themselves up on sides, put the other side down, or identify sides as the victims and bad-guy roles. This does not help to solve the issue. Every society has to deal with divisive issues, it isn’t just NDNs and their Rez Dogs/Cats. The whole video has caused me to think of ways that my own thinking may be a little off. Every society has their own approach to their own ways of living, some people from outside that particular set come in with their own ways of thinking and being to “help” the situation, at times it works but other times things can get worse. The bottom line is that all living things deserve to live with respect and dignity. The way the animals are treated during the filming of this documentary made me sad. The US government treated us the ways we are treating our four legged family members. I am glad that the Navajo nation exercised their sovereignty rights and maintained their cultural views, while at the same time recognizing that there is an issue with the undomesticated animal population. This issue is not unique among Tribal Nations, it premeates the mainstream also. The difference is out there in the mainstream they have the dollars it takes to “handle” or “control” their “aninal problem” by limiting the population. Not just of their problem animals, but people too. Best hopes for this post to create a discussion and not create more division among us. The words are intended to empathize with the Navajo Family as well as all other Tribal Nations. Stay strong and handle our own issues, we got this- in a good way-

Wow that's so sad how those dogs were being handled, towards the end of the video when they were putting the dogs in the shelter they were so mean and rough with them that u could see every dog peeing on the floor because they were so scared and they didn't have to be so cruel to them even the last dog tried hiding under the truck it was so sad and heartbreaking to watch. I wish I could do something to help these poor dogs and educate the communitys that have this problem on how to properly care for a dog. And that little tiny shelter isn't enough for that whole entire rez with as many dogs they say come in per week it's just to bad that no one can come together and put aside each others differences for once for the sake of their community and for those dogs, and maybe do a fundraiser to start a new shelter for the rez a bigger and nicer facility that can hold more animals so they have time to try and adopt them out instead of euthanizing them the same day the came in because there to full and maybe they should test all the dogs to see which ones are viscous and to faral to be around humans first before just euthanizing them and I'm sure that would help the community by giving them more jobs opening up a new shelter. I really hope they have figured something out by now.

You don't have any real insight into this situation, you just want to cast blame and excuse white people's behavior. You might want to watch this again, slowly.

So clearly I'm not the one with the issue.

Oh this is sad, very sad, a dog is a very special animal, y'all take care of them , if they are hanging out somewhere at least take a big sack of dog food AWAY FROM THE ROAD SOO THEY WILL NOT GET HIT AND FED THEM THE SAME TIMES EVERY DAY, IF YOU FEED THEM IN THE AFTERNOON THEY MAY GO TO SLEEP SOMEWHERE AND NOT BE ROAMING THE ROAD, DO THIS AS A FAVOR TO HEL THEM , PEOPLE COULD BUY A SACK OF DOG FOOD TAKING TURNS FEEDING THEM, and if they are bad to ATTACK consider the missing and MURDERED people could have been attacked walking down the road, if there are packs of wolves or coyotes they could kill someone and drag them away and eat them, here where we live in Louisiana there are WILD HOGS AND ALLIGATORS THAT CAN DO THE SAME and you will not find anything if possible anything at all, this is where a tracker needs to start looking to find and eliminate them if they are deadly. Here when I was a little girl we were told NOT TO WALK AWAY FROM THE HOUSE BECAUSE OF THIS , later you would see where the wolves and coyotes were killed and nailed to a fence post, you could not have a baby horse, sheep , goat, cat or puppy, new born calves or anything including the chickens or any kind of foul. The hogs root up and ruin a garden and now there is open season on the anytime of the year, Soo be it, but dogs need a better life because they are not supposed to be wild, I used to have foxes in the wild and you could almost get close because we feed them our left over food and they got Soo used to that they quit getting the chickens, because we fed them to keep them out of trouble it worked for a while, then my neighbor killed all of them and another neighbor had a pack of dogs you could not catch, they would come and harass the sheep, bit his nose like going to wrestle him down and kill him, they did this to a goat I had, one morning I was out side checking my animals and I caught them messing with the sheep, a chase began and i fell and broke my arm, i fell backwards and it snapped my wrist in two places, I got up and grabbed my arm and pulled in straight and that set it back like it was supposed to be, swelling started on way to hospital, my arm had been broke and looked like a right angle and if I would not have pulled it it would be flopping, a trip to the hospital and they looked surprised and said it's been set after the x-ray, the only put it on a splint and said get an appointment, I could not get an appointment soo 6 weeks later I took the splint off, Soo much for a hospital. But this is what can happen when you have don't give a shit neighbors and THIER bad dogs that run loose, other neighbor said she was going to shoot them like she did the foxes, and she had a mule , jack ass, and a burrow that would kill them if they messed with her horses, these neighborhood dogs belong to someone who let them run feral, then come and pregnant my dog and load her up with a litter of pups and then I got to take care of them because I'm NOT LIKE HIM THE SORRY NIEIGHBOR THAT DON'T CARE WHILE HIS DOGS COME TO EAT MY DOG'S FOOD, they get fatter and my dog gets hungry and skinny, and i have to find a better way to deal with this problem, the neighbor hides back off in the the woods with his gate shut, one time we tried to talk to him but he avoided us, soo we left a note on his gate, such stupid neighbors that don't care.
