@@tochiRTA My guess is that they abandon their "old" to sound to a cleaner one just to be "current" and avoid sounding old. Myself, I switched from all hardware to computers about 20 years ago. But, still every sound I use is first being run through the SP 12 then it goes into the computer to give it that crunchy sound. Also, Damu the Fudgemunk is a younger guy who still uses the old classic 12 bit sound. Still some appreciate it and still use that sound. For Large Pro, I like the whole Mega Philosophy album he did with Cormega 10 years ago and the pyramids track he did with NORE. But, he hasn't done too much in the past 5 years except for stuff where the vocals are sort of off. The difference is that the mainstream is so bad even mediocre to good tracks seem ultra amazing to some. But what’s the point of wanting to hear that album if your only focusing (or nitpicking) on PR’s beats while ignoring commons bars and the fact that this is the sharpest he’s sounded in YEARS on the mic, that kind of defeats the purpose of reviewing a COLLAB album.

I think you've missed the point of the lyrics on LL's joint. Granted - you're right about the title... but look beyond that and listen again. The music is not it tho' gotta say... Peep the LL and Eminem jawn... Sick, musically and lyrical delivery! Rakim's Be Ill is better than what he;s put out in 25 years. Common & Pete Rock...so far, I kinda agree with you wholeheartedly....Nas & Premier's Define my Name ain't it neither. Okay you made some good points I will gave you that, but the thing is he was taking a shot at Drake he was speaking on all of his personalities the things that he does in the industry he just didn't say any names from what I got I believe that or he was talking in random about the state of Hip Hop and how cheap it's gotten that anybody can get it I'm from the era of the Saturday night special guns and any Joe Schmo on the Block can get one so I think he's saying metaphorically like that's how the game has gotten that anybody can get in here and pop I didn't see no Hustler lyrics on there I seen old LL Q-tip did the beat those are the type of Vibes that we can old school for the simple fact that the Young Generation is not doing anything to elevate the game there was a saying on the Avengers first movie example and one of the agents gave Captain America back his old costume he said well isn't that a little old school and the Agents response was in this day and age it's needed. I understand what you're saying about the bar I do get that I just don't think it was horrible I believe he could have came out with a different single but I think just because he's trying to make noise and ride the wave of the Drake situation I think that that's the reason why he did this if I was if I was in the booth with him I would have told him this is not a single is definitely an album but I would never released it for my single
I thought Saturday Night Special was better than anything the new rappers are putting out there, but by LL and Fat Joe's standard, it was lackluster. It was one of those songs you listen to when it comes on, but you are not going to go search it out unless you havent heard it yet. I thought Pete Rock & Common's record was great.
Common new track was FIRE, and so was RAKIM. Both of them are still lyrical, but LL was terrible imo. Lupe Fiasco new album is fire too. For me the beat is important only as a canvas for the MCs themes/intentions/ideas to be realized. It can either heighten or lower expectations for a song but it should never take precedence over the actual lyrics themselves. It's just embellishment. Boombap has truly fell off the cliff. I think it's split into two categories. One is the so called "boombap" which is really just stiff drumless griselda stuff and then you got young producers who try to emulate the 90s cuz they love it but don't quite understand the layers and nuances of what made those beats special to begin with so those blind spots are ignored and the finished product is some weak knockoff that just doesn't hit hard like the 90s boombap beats do.
the young producers who try to emulate the 90s.... many of them aren't being sincere. They lack the charisma/talent to compete in the sea of trap producers so they fake 'keeping it real' as an easier outlet to underground fame/clout. If they were truly sincere they would know instantly why their 90s imitation beats aren't cutting it and innovate something else.

I'm a gear head so I watch their advertisements of what they use.
@@sjb3240 what are your favorite Large Pro beats made in the last 5-10 years? Thanks for your comment. I love hearing about the nuances. Why would Pete and Preemo give up that crunch? Surely they know that the crunch is crucial.
Recent Large Pro stuff:
McGyver - Hemisphere (2020)
Eto - Back to the BBQ (2020)
The Xav - Black Duke (2020)
Paul Wall feat Terminology - Talk About It (2023)

Yeah I saw the interview after I made this video. Good comment.
The difference is that the mainstream is so bad even mediocre to good tracks seem ultra amazing to some. It’s been some good stuff a few common and Pete rock songs really hit, though the album is a little bit just good but not top level for them. I know there’s a hip-hop resurgence somewhat obviously it can never be like the 90s.
I think rocky is dropping an album in august
August 30th finally
He was talking about his friend Alpo
any proof of this?

I really like both singles from the common and Pete rock album so far esp dreaming. But what’s the point of wanting to hear that album if your only focusing (or nitpicking) on PR’s beats while ignoring commons bars and the fact that this is the sharpest he’s sounded in YEARS on the mic, that kind of defeats the purpose of reviewing a COLLAB album.
because beats are the most important part!!!

@@tochiRTA 😂 right? I mean pete and commons tracks are nice. But not breakthrough to me. The wise up track is dope with pete dropping that throwback shan marley hook but common sounds just like late 90s common with no new flare to me. I was expecting more impact like when they did verbal murder on Pete's soul survivor track. Hip hop is about breakthrough innovation to me . I was scared to listen to LLs, so I'm curious now. It's hard for him to drop something really breakthrough especially when u not hungry like that and u already an icon. Rakims song with kurupt and masta killa is ok . They laying it down but it's still not mouth dropping. I mean they doing what we already expect them to do being legends and all. I just don't see that passion . My opinion tho. "Hip hop is about breakthrough innovation to me." YES! To you, me and just about any head paying attention. It's emotional and mental hunger in audio form. So when you not really hungry, you're gonna slide into mediocrity if you don't pay attention. We respect the Nas/Jay/Wu/Mobb etc because they were hungry for so long when you think about it. They had projects of varying quality but they always had a banger or two in the tuck to remind you they were them ones. Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa sound bored on their own record.

For me the beat is important only as a canvas for the MCs themes/intentions/ideas to be realized. It can either heighten or lower expectations for a song but it should never take precedence over the actual lyrics themselves. It's just embellishment. Some artists have top tier production but artistically "ain't sayin nuthin" serving up Rosetta Stone level rhymes with boarding house reasoning. To each his own.
Sure. But the truth is that hip hop, like most art, prioritizes emotional resonance and style/flavor over intellectual resonance.

And far as Rakim I've met him spit bars with him and I can honestly say without a doubt being one of his hugest fans I mean the hugest fan I really was not pleased with that first single even though corrupt and master killer was on there I didn't agree he could at least came out with the like guess who's back that was a definite I'm back I haven't dropped the ball on lyrics or anything like that but honestly I was not happy with this
