- With the live comedy scene in tatters due to Covid 19, Ed Byrne has started a side hustle of interviewing his showbiz pals whilst hill walking.
In this first film, Ed is hiking up Mynydd Carningli with stand up comic and TV/Radio presenter Rhod Gilbert
If you fancy walking up Carningli from Newport there's a route map here: www.pembrokesh...
If you'd like to see the "Lost Luggage" routine as discussed in this film it's here: • Rhod Gilbert - Luggage...
And Rhod's performance at The Royal Variety that was discussed at length is here:

Sometimes RUclips recommends the right things. Glad it pointed this out to me
Likewise! Just when I was thinking I’d binged all of RUclips. 🙌
Ah, yes. The Gilbert algorithm.
It got trained on me after series 7 of Taskmaster
Each ascent could be a little more daring than the last, by episode 10 we could have Ed and Lee Mack climbing the most vertical rock face of K2 in Halloween costumes
Getting chased up the cliffs of Dover by the ghost of Jimmy Saville
@Abarth 124Spider Or already dead
@Abarth 124Spider true but too dark
i read that as "accent" at first and i think that shoul be part of the challenge. The harder the ascent, the stronger the accent of the guest
Best Rhodd moment for me was definitely when he hid in Greg Davies' wardrobe for a task on Taskmaster
Because that shows he's an obvious psychopath, as well as a genius. I wholeheartedly agree :D
It does make you wonder if he will get his revenge or what that could be exactly
when you find something and think "yep that's the next 40 minutes sorted"
The issue is when this happens at 2am!
That’s exactly what I thought!
... and then I spotted Episode 2 in the feed. Heaven.
Respect to the camera guy on that terrain
Rhod and Ed arguing over paths like a bitter married couple really got me
As a 29yo who always wanted to be a comedian, hearing Rod talk about how he only started going to shows at 28 is refreshing.
29 is nowhere near too late
@Cian MacGana doesn't stop most commedians nowadays
some of the best comedians/comediennes had a whole life before them when they stated the the comedy gig.
29, life is over. I'm 31 and the end is all I got to comfort me.
His episode on the comedian's comedian podcast is also great and goes into loads of detail about his approach to comedy!
I grew up in the Scottish Highlands with hill walking being my main outdoor activity. Recently moved to NL looking forward to going down to Germany, Austria etc. for some hiking then in comes Covid and traps me in the flattest country in the world lol. This video is absolute balm to my soul right now, thanks Ed
& Thank You for the giggle your comment gave me 👍😁🏴
I sincerely believe this is better than most things on TV, can't wait to see what's to come.
Christ Ed, you've a quare long stride on ya. Poor Rhod's the wind taken out of him
Its the camera operator I feel knackered for. Nice idea - looking forward to these. Its like I'm getting out of the house myself 😉
Bloody Barry Castagnola on the camera! Get him on the pod!
I was led to believe it was a sentient, floating camera
@Cian MacGana What's the point of that? Sounds boring
@Cian MacGana but whatever you do... Don't sit down on a bench or you're getting nicked!
@Cian MacGana Or being that random judgemental internet guy about a light hearted comment? No thanks.
Rhod Gilbert is looking like a victorian lifeboatman. The luggage routine is legit hilarious.
Rhod's Work Experience is one of my all time favourite shows.
It’s sad that if it weren’t for covid we may not have gotten this. Double edged sword it is. Thanks
@Cian MacGana you can get appreciative of something without being appreciative of the event that made it possible. People talk about the 'Blitz spirit' without saying thank God for WW2. Also, please stop leaving snotty replies all over this video
@Cian MacGana no, I'm just saying that you can enjoy the content that has come from it. This likely wouldn't have happened without Covid
You lot sowed the wind and shall reap the whirlwind... I'm just gonna sit back and watch 🍿
My freedoms were never taken... I didn't give them up..
I don't know why this was recommended to me, but I'm glad it was. Can't wait for episode 2.
Watched it with my 4 year old daughter and we loved it. Thanks for bringing the Welsh countryside into our home in Iowa, USA.
There is a great Iowa and Wales connection.
Stumbled across this purely by chance and it's great! Lovely ambling chat between two friends that doesn't have a purpose or goal, just chat for chat's sake. No fancy camerawork or set-pieces, just something to watch and relax to. Going to be fun watching this develop.
"Goretex My arse!" I've so been there. Great show. Thanks.
Rhod is fucking hilarious, but really interesting to hear how he got started
The "luggage" routine was some of the funniest comedy I have ever seen. Genius.
As a sailor who hasn't lived in the UK for 15 years, this is an absolute joy to watch.
Love it, just love it, seeing two people who've made me laugh hundreds of times doing bits, just talking. While walking uphill. Who knew they were fit?
I knew Ed was fit; I think he said he is a Munro bagger in some another thing at some another time.
@@alistaircurrie3992, in one of the series of Three Men in a Boat they gave him a lift to an inaccessible Munro.
A lovely 1st episode and so nice to see such a natural and unscripted chat amongst some stunning scenery .
Didn’t think I could love Ed B any more... then this!
Superb! Brilliant choice for your first guest, Ed. Rhod is not only a very funny guy but, like you, so humble and grounded. And your career hasn’t petered out, Ed. You’re far, far funnier than most of the so- called comedians around just now.
Two very funny men in the same place. Can't get better than this. Glad this was recommended!
The coolest idea for a podcast I've ever seen, massive fan of Gilbert so big bonus! Definitely will be back
Wow so pleased to see this. I was born and bred in Newport /Trefdraeth and still call it home. Been away too long because of the darn virus and have missed seeing parents and friends. Thank you Ed and Rhod.
"It's not so pathy now, Ed."
So glad that RUclips recommended me this. One of my favourite Rhod Gilbert moments was when he did work experience on a farm. Hilarious 🤣 Rhod comedy legend
These down to earth chats between comedians are always great, at times i enjoy the candid converstations in these settings over the actual comedy.
I loved "Ask Rhod Gilbert" Greetings from a fan from Norway.
That opening scene was the sharpest video my 4K TV has ever experienced - if Ed had suddenly lunged forward, I would genuinely have jumped out of my skin!
It's not even a 4K video
Love Ed, love Rhod, love Pembrokeshire! Great watch
The point off Dinas head is called “y nedwydd” (needle point) it’s home to a lot of nesting birds.
I prefer "The rock" and "some birds"
I was thinking it might be Stackpole. (I'm guessing that's in another area entirely, beautiful place though)
I don't quite understand how RUclips knew that I'd love this but I absolutely do!
Excellent! Last of the Summer Wine reboot, I like it!
I love that the opening subtitles call Rhod a "standard comedian".... 😂😂😂
Walked the entire Pembrokshire coastal path in spring 1982. Loved it, though rain during one night caused the tent to slip a wee bit too close to the cliff edge. Nothing like a massive adrenalin shock first thing in the morning to get you going 🥵😅🤣. I live in Australia now so cheers Ed for filming your new memory and jogging mine.
How didn't I know about this channel? Thank you, youtube recommendations. ♥
This is an awesome idea for a podcast. Well played, RUclips algorithm. Nailed it.
I can only imagine what would happen if Ed took Joe Lycett to the top of a mountain
There are no mountains anywhere in Britain, just some decent sized hills.
I really like the format, Ed! Always enjoy your work.
Bring this series back!
What a pleasant surprise for an American fan of you both.
Excellent - hope there are more. You make a great interviewer Ed; enough in the scene to be the mate they are chatting to for some fun insights, enough observer for it not to be just all about you. Great.
Ed is still very funny. Love this idea of the podcast. Hope to see more in the future
Pembrokeshire is actually one of the most beautiful, magical, mysterious places in the world.
If you’re bought up there though you can’t wait to get out and see the world. I would know, I’m a Tenby Boy 👌
Lucky to live and work within sight of the mountain in this video
The sun is beaming here in Pembrokeshire...❤️
What a great recommendation. Love the combination of comedy 🎭 and the hiking 🥾. We all need to laugh 😂 more
I feel knackered after watching this.
I wonder if it would be possible to link to the route taken on these episodes? I'm always very curious to know where these types of episodes walk. I know it's likely near Newport castle, but knowing where people walked gives us a better idea of the landmarks etc. to look up.
Good idea. I'll do just that. Thanks for the suggestion
@@edventuring9092 are you planning to link to the route you planned on paths or the one you actually took through the gorse and bog?!
All over the bleeding place is what it was! Looked like they were going up one path, then down another, then a shot of the castle at the bottom of the hill...
Just start at the bottom and make your way up, that's how everyone climbs Carn Ingli XD
Hi Ed could you get the names of those beaches Rhod mentioned I didn’t quite catch their names!! Thanks 😊
Great show, very funny and enjoyable to watch, thanks Ed
Yeah that worked a treat, really good first effort - More of these pls!
Just to say that since I'm stuck in a city right now and miss the hills this is some brilliant content.
Loving these ed-ventures 👌 keep them coming buddy
What a fantastic first ep - I’m thoroughly excited for these! Thanks for brightening our lockdowns Ed :)
Got an agency chef job in St davids for the summer season, ended up staying 2 years rather than 2 months lol absolute beautiful place is pembrokeshire
From Adelaide and a Kiwi who loves hiking in the UK this is a mixture of enjoying watching this and feeling like im there and sad because i cant get over ther for a while ,Cant wait for more episodes !!!
I hiked this with Mr D with the Outdoor Pursuits course at Coleg Y Drinidod years ago. Cymbru am byth! Loved this video.
enjoyed this immensely. Excellently shot by Barry Castagnola!
Looking forward to seeing more of these - nice concept. Nice to hear about Rhod's start in comedy. Top notch, fellas.
I am so glad this was in my recommended list. I love it.
Hiking vicariously....you’ve got me ...awesome 😁
Absolutely loved this...comedy and hiking, who could ask for more!
World renowned hill walker, legend says mount edverest is named after him
I love this. Ed AND Rhod together. Just friggin love it... One of the good things to come out of Covid is this show.
Hello my friend just found you today and really pleased we have. This is awesome bro, Rhod Gilbert is awesome. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Stay safe and catch up again real soon.
I'm five minutes in, and this is already my favorite thing
I recognize my wheezing there! That’s a smoker climbing a hill :D
I was worried that the wind would be whipping in the mic the whole time but it was pretty clear and good audio. I can't wait for more I would love to see dara of course and maybe, maisie Adam or some of the other mock the week regulars like ed gamble, james acaster, and hugh. Can't wait for more
So the only female listed is a maybe?
@@rowredround7206 i want her but i dont know if hiking is her thing and with her epilepsy if she can trek out in the wilderness where cars cant get to her. its not a female thing i am a huge fan of hers
@Abarth 124Spider I hope he does some of the new people like maisie Adam, ed gamble, and james acaster
Just stumbled on this today. This was great, I’ll watch anything with Rhod Gilbert in. Look forward to more, so long as Rhod is in every episode.
@Abarth 124Spider I am Welsh, what gave it away. And that does make me contractually obliged to like all Welsh, comedians, bands and watch rugby.
@Abarth 124Spider - you have just demonstrated the real problem between England and Wales. You have failed to have a sense of humour.
I have no hatred for English or England. I live in Wiltshire, married an English girl and god help me have even picked up some of the terrible West Country accent.
Now be off with you back to wherever you’ve come from and do me a favour - go and find something funny and cheer up.
So glad I stumbled upon this gem
Would love to see more content as you have time!
So happy I was recommended this!
To be honest, the name is brilliant.
What a great idea.
Do one of these with Brian Cox, then lord it over Dara, mate...
Three Men on a Mountain.
Brian Cox! What, the Master Midwit? 😂
amazing. Stumbled on this by accident. cant wait for future episodes!
Work experience was brilliant. More please
Loved this, really great idea to walk rather than just sit at home and chat. Looking forward to more
Really made me miss home, time to go back maybe...
It's hard to beat South Wales isn't it
Thanks for this. When Rhod says about 'Ask Rhod Gilbert' I had to agree. After seeing this I now respect this guy a lot more, not that means anything pitted against a disaster like myself. I always thought he was above that series, even though each episode must have been loved by the people he met. He was still funny in them, I just get what he means.
Brilliant idea. I love walking and comedy. Such a refreshing change, i cannot wait for more.
This is oddly calming
Absolutely love these
Hi Ed, please give the cameraman a credit. He did a good job in all that gorse.
I like how the thumbnail makes Rhod look like a hobbit.
oh, i said hobo, was i wrong?
I thought the video was about mad homeless people living in the bushes
I love Ask Rhod Gilbert, great show.
This is incredibly relaxing to watch.
Absolutely entertaining and enjoyable. Please do more!
Great job & a lovely walk. Looking forward to more episodes
Between a thousand ferns with Ed...
Under appreciated 👏👏👏
I was panicking cause my podcast ended and I had nobody talking in my ear while I worked. This is perfect.
Extremely excited for more of these. I would love to see Greg Davies especially or Dara O Briain
Since they’re always joking Dara doesn’t have legs on Mock the Week, I hope they cgi out his legs and replace them with a little personal ATV or a unicycle bottom.
And I think they’ll have to airlift Greg to the top of wherever they’re going and just have him walk the down bit 😂
instant sub :) thank you Sir !
Great idea, I am in panel show withdrawal in the U.S. and RUclips is my only hope.
Absolutely loved it!!! Thank you!! Hoping for more! 👏
Got tickets to see both of these two (hopefully) this year... Had the tickets for ages 🤣
As someone from the states, I kept thinking “I know Rhod. How do I know him?” Finally looked him up on RUclips. Yes, I’ve seen his acts before but geez he looks so different with the beard! He’s great! Keep up the great podcast Ed! Love your work as well! Oh, and now I see the links you have posted. Thanks!
