You should have made the recess where the mount go open geometery (drain hole). Uncured resin tends to gas up and cause cracking. Think of exploding caskets. If you print solid, you're fine however they would be extremely heavy for the model kit.
Greetings from the USA! All I have to say is WOW!! 🙂 you did some very nice work here. I’m seriously thinking about getting into 3-D printing myself mainly because I’m sick and tired of writing model manufacturers giving them suggestions for future releases only either to never hear nothing back or have to wait years on end to see results.
@@MMScaleModels key word is yet... i don't even have a 3d printer, "yet" I already have some ideas on many things I want to try, for example pilot figures and higher detailed scratch build.. knowing it's possible is half the battle , the rest is skill improving!? right? lol.
Thank you for this. Great way to "fix" things on models. It's still a bit of a minefield for 3d printing, but i am definitely taking the plunge this year, despite the speed of development of these.
Great work!👍 Between this hobby and RC, a 3d printer just makes so much sense. I have to get over my hesitation and buy one of these damn contraptions!
Best way to remove the supports, before curing submerge the piece in hot water (not boiling) for 10-15 seconds and you will see that you can remove the supports very easily. Next dry and curing.
@@MMScaleModels It should just peel off after submerging in hot water (personally i leave it in the water for 2-5 mins) if it's still dificult to remove the support after that then your exposure time is to long.
I am considering the water washable resin myself... although now I am playing with ABS-like and it is awesome.... but it stinks and dirties up IPA very quickly. How is the water washable in terms of smell?
Very nice presentation of the design and printer. This brings me one step closer in buing one😎. I have a FDM so far but still a bit concerned about the mess with that liquid resin stuff. Am i wrong?
Initially yes but there is a lot of guidance all over the internet on how to streamline the process. Also resins do evolve. Right now I am using plant based resin which has significantly less odour than normal resin and is allegedly less harmful. Elegoo also sell activated carbon purifiers which go in the printer.
You are doing great work my friend, I think you already know what you are doing, what next on your list of items to make with the printer? Hope all is well with you and your family, best regards from Australia.
Believe me, there is a whole universe of stuff I need to learn. I havent planed anything particular, have to create rear wheel for the f-40LM from fujimi because it came broken.
I must learn fusion 360!! I don’t have printer yet but I think I’m going with this printer. Have you ever designed figures for printing? If so what software do you use to design people for 3D printing? Anyone please feel free to chime in on this. Thank you!!
Those are my first details done on fusion, have no previous cad experience. The software is just so intuitive and there are a lot of tutorials. BUT.... man figures got to be the toughest job ever. I think complerely different software is needed... something like 3dsmax or similar... but i am no expert so.. 😁
@@MMScaleModels I found a couple “people” softwares that look promising. There’s so much around minis that all you find is orc/ogres and barbarians lol.
Well done sir. I too do the same and with my Elegoo Mars. Looking to upgrade soon to the Mars 3. Would you be willing to share/sell your STL file for this component?
Thanks mate, among other things, my patreon supporters get my 3d files as part of the package. This file will be uploaded next week and you are more than welcome to join us at patreon.com/metodi
@@MMScaleModels yes thats true it does the resin printer times increase the height not by the quantity ,i have the Elegoo Saturn but to be honest a fuel tank in that size needs maybe an hour? Anyway when you making models vertical you eliminate the contact points plus you avoid the model to deform !
I agree, oriented like that it was a bit more than an hour, but have in mind i am just starting and my settings are not optimized... i am happy to get the print not to fail 😁. BTW, i printed the turret barrels upright... at 10 microns and almost 5 hours but that alowed for no supports in visible areas and virtualy flawless surface.
@@MMScaleModels yes thats very cool i am not judging my comment was just to point out that are more efficient ways to print ,all comes with experience you will see soon after many prints you will know exactly what orientation you need and what type of supports !

Fun fact. Those fuel tanks on the P-61 are from a P-38. The VLR Mustangs used them too.
I have to make a set of four for my Widowmaker
Interesting but I guess that's normal. They can't produce a fuel tank specific to each aircraft I guess.
@@MMScaleModels at the time it was the largest tank being made so the crews just made them work.
*Many thanks for this tuto, my next "expensive" purchase will be one of these 3D printers!*
You are welcome, those can actually save quite some money if you tend to buy a lot of aftermarket.

I am sure that if you want it bad enough a full model can be 3d printed with good results :)
Can't wait to see your upgraded 3d printed cockpits and engines in the future lol... you know you're going to!
i don't have the skills to do that... yet :)

I think they came to a point where differences in development and price is far less obvious than it used to be.

For sure it is a useful tool.
Would be great to replace some missing parts on the kit, create a more detailed cockpit and more..
3D printing will be the new modelers best friend
True, another great tool 👍
That is really clever. Great job 😉
Thank you! Cheers!
Cool tanks man, great job..👌

Ooof looks like you did at 5:40, my bad =o). Elegoo's are sick. I have one with water washable resin.

Where did you get the 13th bomber squad decals ?
Those come with the kit.
Sweet, I'm a big fan of the squadron, they're based about an hour away from me . Definitely gonna have to pick up this kit just for that . Thanks !

nice job next time put it vertical 60 degrees so you dont need to clean all the tank ,it will print just perfect !
Thanks for the tip! I tried this but the printing time triples due to the elongated shape of the part, sanding was just faster in this case.
