Hey, if you have an unequal pitch roof (ex. 4/12 17' run into a 12/12 6'run) are there special considerations for the ridge board (unbalanced load). can you use a ridge board or do you need a ridge beam? looks like you had a ridge beam here.

I dont study the span tables much. We pretty much do what the engineer says but occasionally we up the framing members. Here it is pretty stringent. If the inspector steps up and sees that it is built different than the plans he asks for a letter from the engineer confirming that the extra weight of the member is ok and that costs money.

I love how you nonchalantly stole Will Holladay's book's front cover photo and made it yours... BTW, your jacks are off, your OC distances are non consistent and your valleys are all over the place, whoever sheathed that thing must've been cursing left and right... Heck even the bridge looks wacky! Was this a temporary circus?

That’s me on the cover and I illustrated the book. Of course all of our commons are parallel. But it was a very complicated roof with seven different pitches converging. There were two other buildings on the site with unequal intersecting pitch roofs as well. Fun job.
