Lugers is great too but most people that have never tried the other 2, will try Lugers based on its fame. They’ll say it’s the best steak they’ve ever had. But they’re comparing it to a local steakhouse

Nice video. I think I've heard every chef on TV talk about how critical it is to let your meat rest so that you don't lose the juices and two of these three steakhouses bring it out cut up literally seconds after it's out of the broiler.
The Delmonico steak looks stunning. The char and glisten from that Wagyu beef fat / butter mixture was sublime. Perfect. Keen’s looked a clear second to me. I’ve been to Luger and at the time it lived up to the hype.
They've built a reputation around eating at great places, not providing any in depth tasting notes to their meal, and rating the winner, as if that mattered. This is what the majority of people want-- to watch regular folks that have no idea how to cook or eat, rating food. The only reason I watch is to see the restaurants.
Delmonicos is by far the best.. you can't beat that ribeye. There is a reason that a thick trimmed ribeye is nickname a Delmonico.. the other 2 can't compare because they had porterhouse steaks and most of a porterhouse is sirloin strip. You can't tell me the sirloin is a better cut than a prime ribeye..
Dry aged ribeye is by far the best steak. It has just the right marbling, is very tender and if it's the right thickness, you can cook the perfect steak. You are correct that porterhouse, T bone, cowboy steak or what ever anyone wants to call it is a strip steak on one side and a filet on the other. The issue is that a strip steak has to be cooked differently than a filet. Strip steaks are too firm and the lip of fat is too chewy. I've been cooking steaks for 23 years now and ribeye and filet are by far the best. The only time I dont mind a strip steak is if its wagyu .
People who love great steak don’t go to chains with laminated menus. Bobby Van’s bone-in rib eye is also wonderful. Ok, so there are a few Bobby Van’s locations but it’s not a chain like many others.

I like how with Delmonico's and Keen's, they interviewed the head chef as opposed to the owner. It really gives both restaurants a personal touch and more detail to the cooking and aging processes, very informative. The owner of Peter Luger didn't come off nearly as knowledgable or personable as either of the head chefs from the other two restaurants did.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Peter Luger is the epitome of a "middle-class fancy" tourist trap. Their broil, slice, broil cooking method produces laughably inconsistent results. For proof, pause the video at 10:01 and look at the ridiculous temperature/colour gradient on the bottom right slice: the top half and left vertical edge/right tip are well done while the bottom half (excluding the left vertical edge/right tip) is rare. I fully understand that with certain cuts like a T-Bone/Porterhouse it is hard to get perfect results every time but if you are 'premium' steakhouse you should generally be able to do a much better job of achieving a uniform internal temperature and colour...

Would love to try all those steak houses you girl’s visited. Also, I’m sure those steak houses or fine dining restaurants, especially in NYC hire chefs that graduated from chef school.
Not necessarily.. If you train under the right chef and know the right owners you can make your way up the ranks. Schooling definitely helps, but you can challenge your red seal papers with enough experience, and the right chef to sign off on the hours.
I’m watching this years later and I’m truly saddened from not being able to go to Delmonico’s anymore

People: fighting to call someone she/he or they
Erin to a slice of filet: she is beautiful, look at her, look at that lady
That whole cutting Luger Porterhouse sizzling with butter coming to the table.
I like it.
The bacon has my attention.
Keens Steakhouse is my first and only, so far, NY steakhouse I’ve tried. I’m from L.A. and I visited NYC last October 2019. First, I was surprised that the place was fully booked. It was a rainy Tuesday night. I got lucky, I found a seat at the bar; or “Pub”. I had lamb chops with and excellent wine. Perfect.
You didn't have steak at a steakhouse? That's like going to Mcdonalds for salad
@@johniii8147 Yeah, you’re right. I’ll make it back there soon. I plan to make it a two week visit. There are 5 specific steakhouses I will visit over that time. Still, I gotta say, those lamb chops at Keens were delicious. Cheers.
@@jamxtube Well their food in general is great. IT's my go to as well. Peter Luger oh forget that tourist trap.
