    Awesome video. Is it possible to move that 3-axis tool (that allows the movement) down by the root closer to the center of resistance/rotation? Also, does meshmixer have a tool that allows you to set up numerous working models automatically (a-la-Invisalign)? In other words, it looks at the amount of rotation of #25 (let's say 20 degrees) and break it up automatically in 2 degree increments spread over 10 working models and ultimately 10 essix trays?

    You really SHOULD scan the opposing arch even if it is not being treated (Unless there is no contact whatsoever in the anterior segment. But if this were the case, it's likely that aligner treatment would not be appropriate). Occlusion is important to consider when attempting to move teeth with any appliance system, with spacing or crowding. Also, you could consider some IPR BEFORE the scan, which would allow for a more accurate set-up. A lower tx only with IPR may finish with residual overjet (again occlusion) which will be most noticable on patients with good initial anterior coupling. Some patients are very "aware" of this post-treatment. So....that one arch aligner case that seemed like a slam dunk is now your worst nightmare.

    • @drjoopj
      @drjoopj 6 лет назад

      Also, overcorrect rotations.....this will make things easier to finish. Nice job on the video! 😀

      Jared Johnson did I ever mention not needing an opposing model? This video is fairly old and I don't recall. I only recall making this video to show a technique for model manipulation.

      Yes, you can. I have another video on that. However, I would advise caution. I use BlueSkyPlan for my real aligner cases. The workflow in this video is really just for very very minor corrections.

    Thanks for the great instructional videos! Could you please make a video on how to do hinge movement. I want to leave the mesial of a central fixed and pivot the distal facially. THANK YOU!

    • @bgrutterdds
      @bgrutterdds  4 года назад +1

      Orthodontically, that's a very difficult movement, as it involves not only rotation, but also buccal/lingual translation. In the software, you would just add a Pivot to the mesial. Then, after clicking Transform, click on the pivot so that all movements center there.

    Is there a function in Meshmixer which allows you to morph between the before and after? In other words, a function which creates X number of models between the before and after situation, which you then could 3d print and then vacuum form (InVisalign principle).

    • @bgrutterdds
      @bgrutterdds  7 лет назад

      drwoo sorry I missed these comments. MM does not have such a feature. truth be told, is VERY complex knowing how much different teeth can move per step and on what ways.

    • @bgrutterdds
      @bgrutterdds  7 лет назад

      drwoo BlueSkyPlan does have this feature. just ~$5/set of staged models.

    Can you please make a video on how to create a arch for OTM. I'll be working on a project in a few weeks and hope to use your guidance. I have Meshmixer and Netfabb and a standard impression model of both uppers and lowers. Please do it ASAP. Just set out 15 minutes in your schedule to do a tutorial on how to create a perfect guidance arch.

    After selecting the area/tooth to be moved. And applying soft transform , the red, blue , green handles appear but the area selected does not move. Is there a particilar key which has to be pressed to activate the transform handles.

    Hi! Thank you for your videos. You are the only reason that I am able to take on this task. Question....When working on an Upper Model how can you flip the it to see the occlusal edges. I am having trouble. TIA

    • @bgrutterdds
      @bgrutterdds  4 года назад

      That is most likely due to the alignment of the model. You can change that with the Transform tool. Or, press the spacebar and click the second box. It might saw snap. Can't remember. That will allow you to spin around at will.

    • @shaynakivlin2032
      @shaynakivlin2032 4 года назад

      @@bgrutterdds Thanks for the response. So, when I click the space bar it pulls up a box that says Camera. I see the snap box, free box etc but none let me move the actual model. It is almost like my model is floating off the platform and I can only move the platform around. This is probably the easiest fix but for some reason I am struggling :-( My upper model is probably 2in above the red dot.

    hello, why do you need to 3D print out combined model for making the aligner?

    • @bgrutterdds
      @bgrutterdds  3 года назад

      In the video, I'm demonstrating more movement than would be appropriate with one final retainer. So, combine and then use Aligner pliers to create progressively larger dimples.
      This is also A VERY old video. I use BlueSkyPlan for this, now.

    How do you figure out the amount of IPR (interproximal reduction) needed?
    Also, using a Macbook, what mouse would you recomment for optimal control?

    • @bgrutterdds
      @bgrutterdds  5 лет назад

      When using this technique, IPR is done by feel. Tight contacts need to be loosened up. But I don't do this with crowded cases, anyway. I use BlueSkyPlan. And I use a basic $8 USB mouse. I've used plenty of more complex mice, but simple is fine for dental CAD.

    • @alyaaaldohan2835
      @alyaaaldohan2835 5 лет назад

      @@bgrutterdds BlueSkyPlan determines accurate IPR? Also, can you use consecutive aligners that stages movements of about 0.25 to 0.3 mm per aligner (like invisalign) instead of dimples or buttons like you demonstrated in meshmixer?
