Two and a half years later, the personality, positivity of this couple has led to a new home... they built AND a new business building vans. They have been incredibly successful in producing content that both viewers AND advertisers love. Props to them both. They are a lovely couple.
You all also have class ... That's it that's what really shines from you both. People your age would have just walked out our the computer place with a big smile saying they got it done. But you two bought everybody lunch for helping you out. That's class
If you are concerned about the moisture and it’s effect on your electronics, go to a dollar store (hope you can find one) and purchase containers of moisture absorbers. Some of the names start with “Damp...”. You just have to strategically place them around your van. They do work. Amazon sells them too but they are more expensive. Good luck!
We all experience days like this and you did a great job of keeping your spirits up through the stress. I am so glad you reached out over the warranty and the company responded well.
Hi Trent and Ally, first time watching and have followed Jordan and Kaylee for the past 5 years. Interesting video. Computers sourdough & Pizza, what a blast. Well thank you very much and will subscribe❤
So sorry about your computer woes, but the end with the “bread brick” was hysterical 🤣🤣. I was laughing so hard. You two are amazing and inspirational. My favorite van life channel to watch. Thanks 💕
About your sourdough bread. Did I see a covered plastic container? You must always leave developing sourdough in a warm environment open to air. Not entirely open, but covered with a dish towel. The bacteria cannot create air (be aerobic) without oxygen. If you cover it with a seal, the bacteria won't respire. Best environment is warm/dry. You have warm/humid, but leaving it out lightly covered will allow the bacteria to breathe and create the rising/bubbles it needs. Even if you put it in your oven on warm, you'd get a great rise. It's like Kombucha, you can't seal it while it's fermenting. Sourdough ferments just like kombucha. Let me know if you need anymore information. Everything I know I learned from my Mom :-)
I also make Sourdough bread, your loaf just didn't looked baked enough, Doughy. It needed to baked at a high temperature and the temp of the bread should be at least 200" inside to be done. Oh yeah browned , it was just white; Maybe your little camper oven doesn't go high enough.
I love how you guys always make lemonade out of lemons whenever an unfortunate situation arises. Keep up the great vibes! Love you guys and your videos! Great attitudes!
takeaway from this: divorce your data from the OS/computer and do all edits on external drives. If OS or computer crashes, data is fully transferable to new computer.
Hi guys, The three things that kill electronics are: 1. Vibration 2. Heat 3. Humidity Computers are not built like cell phones. They are sensitive electronic devices- NOT hardened electronic devices. In the sailing/cruising community it is common to keep one or two backup computers around in sealed, Faraday cage boxes (i.e.-wrapped in foil) since they just don't survive well in the adventuring lifestyle. That is also why most cruisers use cheap PC laptops instead of Apples. That way they are much cheaper and easier to replace. As for software, there are equivalent editing programs for nearly all operating systems. If you are feeling adventurous you might even look at Linux since it runs much faster on lower end equipment and nearly everything is open source. And yes, most of the programs available on Linux are every bit as capable as their MS or Mac counterparts. Cruising: the art of fixing your boat in exotic locations... Keep up the great work!
This is so true. We learned the hard, and expensive, way that when it comes to adventuring and computers expensive is not equivalent with better. We use the cheapest laptops that meet our needs and back up like fiends.
just saw this ... apparently he had the whole thing (Linux os and data) installed on an external hd, one computer gave up, but plugging the hd into a laptop and booting of the hd kept things going :) ruclips.net/video/5N-JaBsX9F0/видео.html
And my bf wonders why I'm always backing things up... and rarely put anything directly on the computer itself, its all on USBs. That way I still have all my data even if/when the puter messes up.
Hi Trent and Allie 🙏 😁 Sorry to hear about the computers. Have you got a large clear plastic bag, a small cheese cloth bag and 4 handfuls of uncooked rice? Method is to make a cheesecloth pillowcase and put the rice in before sewing or gluing it closed. Next, place the laptop into the clear plastic bag, the rice pillow on top and leave a small amount of air. Seal or tie the bag for around 4 hours a night or when its very humid place the bag lower to the floor. The hot air will rise and take the moisture to the rice. 🍚 xx
I’m a Dj and I’ve used my same MacBook Pro retina for over 7 years at a minimum of 28 hours every week. No issues whatsoever. Updated MULTIPLE operating systems. Fact that 2 different macs suffered the same ailments in the same environment leads me to believe there’s some external factor. Possibly electrical system in the van? Maybe plug into a high grade surge protector.
It’s the humility it happened to me when i lived in China keep a dehumidifier in your van and keep your equipment close to it it can also happen to your camera equipment
For anyone doing a lot of travel and you need robust computer solution, check out the IBM NUC line up of products. The PC itself is about the size of a sandwich. Then use a tablet (or smartphone) as your screen. The NUCs use relatively little power but they have plenty of connectors, plenty of options. They are compact and robust.
Apple fails even in squeeky clean, controled office environment... it actually doesn't matter what you do with them, they're designed to fail purposefully as exposed by now multiple times by people working in repair business.
Humidity the killer here, underfloor heating or two diesel China heaters. One heater to front and one underbed storage or feed a secondary hose of one. Some campers have just a few pc fans installed under bed to push air flow back and forth
I laughed so hard when I saw the piece of bread. You guys are so positive even with some hard dough. You're right sometimes things don't go as planned in vanlife or even just regular life. But the positive attitude and perseverance is what keeps it going.
Keeping a starter is a labour of love. Way back in the day folks would sleep with it to keep it warm and alive. I had a kit from king Arthur flour and made tons of English muffins so as not to waste it when it came feeding time. Oh and it can stay in th fridge. Hope all is well with your computers:)
🙋♀️ from Greece Macedonia , for the 🍞 put the taper with the mix under of a blanket . Flour , warm water , 1 spoon yeast and leave in the blanket for 1-2 hours then you see ... Put salt , little sugar ( helping the yeast ) and cook
If you use laptop outdoors in humid area, then take inside to AC cooled air, moisture can condense inside the laptop, since the cooling fan in the laptop pulled in that humid air. Salt air also introduces that element of salt, which combined with the condensate moisture can short circuit something at times.
Sorry for your strands of computer bad luck, but I love your positivity. When life gives you lemons you learn to make sweet lemonade. Stay focused on what really matters 😎✌🏻🤙🏻
Oh my goodness you guys! You are both TOO CUTE! Love the bread scenes!!! Eating dense bread! Talk about making the best of a tough situation. So sorry about your laptops crashing.
I’d definitely recommend something to store your laptop in, like a pelican case. Protects against moisture, movement, and adds a sense of deeper security. Only issue might be storing it.
Big fan of you guys! Being an IT Professional, this was a little near and dear to my heart. Glad they were able to get your one Macbook Pro squared away. One suggestion, I didn't really hear mention of any backups. At a minimum, I'd have some sort of cloud backup (I know bandwidth varies) of your important files. But in addition, take a USB drive and set up bootable backups of your entire hard drive. Carbon Copy Cloner does this super well and easy, it's at bombich.com. That way, if your computer dies again, you'll have a imaged copy of your Mac that will boot from any other Mac. Especially for your situation, a good backup is worth its weight in gold. You guys are great, take care!
"Let's see how our little love muffin is doin" 😂😂😂 Thanks for that. I spit my coffee across the room! LMAO. So sorry you guys are having technical difficulties. You're all in my prayers!
ODDLY ENOUGH, this is one of my favourite videos. The coincidence of two computers both going out. Then, the Expiration Date being EXACTLY one year to the day, (so bizarre) was blowing my mind. But I was cussing at the screen when you said they were not going to honour it.! Apple saved itself by not only repairing your Two computers but also allowing you to use their in-store unit to edit your vid... That, Really Blessed Me. Now if you can figure out what went wrong with the Bread.??? LOL.! Live Is A Trip.!!! ❤️
The computer issues have to deal with the heat and moisture from the local area. Not sure if they still make them, but a dehumidifier bags or you can make one by using a large sealing bag with rice. Trying storing them in that from time to time to dry it out. As for the heat; you need to make sure flat lifted surface (area so the fans can circulate well) or one of those fan bases that the laptop can seat on. You probably know this already but thought I would share just in case.
It is worthwhile to check your inverter. Especially if you have multiple and different devices acting up. If a charged device works fine, but acts up once plugged in, power can be suspect. Once damaged though, you're likely going to continue to have problems. If something non-Apple dies, definitely start staring at your inverter and threatening it.
May I give you a suggestion for Newfoundland toutons. Fried bread! It's easy to make , 1 cup of flour 1tablespoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon of salt ,water.mix dry ingredients and water to form soft bread dough. Shape into pancake, fry in butter on medium heat pan. Brown one side turn over. Brown the other . Can also be baked or used as crust on meat pie.
Allie, I just love all of your accents. Your accent voices makes me laugh. The child in all of us, loves to play with accents. You too are so good; pizza for the staff. Class Act!
“Jocotes” taste so good when they mature (red color)” green it’s okay, smashed with little salt, lime juice and hot sauce. I’m drooling! Love your videos :)
I would recommend that you get some silica packs (the little packets that you get when you buy electronics) and put it in the same bag as the Macbooks to help keep away the humidity. You can also find them on Amazon.
... fwiw, from what i know - primary cause of laptop failure is excessive heat... secondary is moisture. Many use laptops on their lap (duh!) or on a bed/couch which blocks the airflow (fan access). Video editing is intensive work for the processors (= heat generation) and thus requires substantial cooling. Keep the bottom of the computer/fan air access 'open' and the equipment will be happier. Ya still managed a fun vid in all this - good stuff. Cheers ~ S
As an early-retired AppleCare employee - which is the repair operational/product insurance dept - I was hoping, hoping, hoping you would call Apple. They will always listen to you and we had the mantra of: Do The Right Thing. Building brand loyalty, doing right by customers and owning mistakes - I am so glad they helped you all out!
Hey but on this comment I would like to say it is really nice to see a young man who takes charge and gets things done. You jumped on the phone and you called Apple. You walked out of there not having to buy a $2,000 computer because you took charge. I think you guys are great enjoy watching your shows. You're getting yourself a winner there Trent. Allie is a perfect catch. Allie you are getting a great catch also.. You guys will do well.. 👍🤜🤛
Yes, we all have those days. A positive disposition makes all the difference. Sidenote: Y'all cracked me up trying that sour dough bread. Keep at it, you'll get better and better.
Keep them in an airtight box with a few bags of desiccant or laptops not turning on will keep happening, Humidity plays hell on electronics as does unreliable power, a proper high quality surge protector is also suggested.
Glad to see you guys are putting your computers on a flat surface instead of the bed sheets. Computers need air to cool off and soft surfaces like sheets and pillows clog the air ports. Since you are in Central America, consider putting some blocks or something under the computers so they can get even more fresh air and dissipate the heat they generate more rapidly.
Humidity for sure, same thing happens in Puerto Aventuras. Allie you have excellent editing skills and having a good attitude when things don't go your way is an excellent strength of character. It's easy to be kind when things are going your way, only can you still be just as kind when dealing with problems :) Quick question....what are you doing for insurance with each country? I know once you enter Mexico insurance becomes null and void. A lot of the countries you visit aren't part of the insurance treaty, so how do you deal with insurance? Thanks and hope your computers get fixed.
Another great video keep up the good work. You know things didn't go that good today but at the end of the day you still have each other and all your health now that's Happy Day. Have a great day will see you on the next one.
You know, you have to feed a Sourdough Starter, at least weekly (if refrigerated), with Flour and Water. Then you're Loaf will turn out when you're ready to make Bread.
I haven't read all the comment on this video but my two cents worth, always back up on an external large Terrabyte drive and secondly buy a cheap Windows PC. Hopefully your Apple Video Software has a Windows version so that if you continue to have more technical difficulties you have a backup plan at less cost while traveling outside the US.
A couple thoughts about your electrical problems come to mind: 1) Do you have a pure sine wave inverter in the van? If not your inverter could be feeding the laptops dirty electricity. You must have good clean electricity for sensitive electronic devices. 2) Do you have a constant voltage regulator for when you go to cyber cafes? The countries you are plugging into probably don’t have clean electricity either.
'Its dense, dense bread' 😁😁 After the day you guys had had, I thought Allie's summing up was fab. Well done for not totally melting down, not sure I'd have been that cool. Keep going guys you're doing great. 👍
Challenges abound... but you guys are handling it. You've handled everything so far! You will figure it out. And remember... you're loved. We (your subscribers) love you, and that's just a tiny fraction of how much you are loved and supported.
For all mac laptops... see Louis Rossman on RUclips, based in NYC. He can fix them even when Apple says you have to get a new one or an expensive mobo fix. Oh, and the really rough roads and moisture are likely culprits for broken mobos and components in a mac laptop. Do check out Rossman Group for macbook repairs though. He'll at least save your data if the machine is actually trashed, other than the SSD of course.
Allie... good job on just diving into sourdough. There's a huge learning curve. When you first mix up your flour and water Etc the dough is Shaggy and just leave it for half an hour and then start your stretch and folds which are very very important in building the gluten structure. Check out Elaine on foodbod sourdough Channel. She does real simple explanation getting a successful bread and helping with the learning curve. Don't give up sourdough bread is so amazing and such a fun skill that never gets old. Bless you both
it's the heat and the humidity - heat especially is NEVER good for electronics. I would suggest backing up files to both an external drive and a cloud drive in case the external suffers from the same heat/humidity issue all electronic do. :(
You guys never back up your data to the cloud and external drive !!! Ahhhhh, big brother is like " Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell .... God bless you both, be safe :)

Allie and Trent… I like your attitude… When life hands you lemons… You bake some bread!!! Continue to have much fun!!! ❤️ you..
And... having each other, when a day is a challenge, you've got the support of one another. That's a blessing in and of itself.
😅 @4:29 when Jordan asks if you want him to call his grandma! 🤣❣
I love how sweet and kind you are with each other even under stress.

Lots of bad luck but you both rock the positivity. Wherever you go you meet the nicest people because you exude happiness.
Trent always says something amusing about halfway through the video, I laugh, and click the thumbs up. You guys are great.
Thanks Nathan! Glad you share my sense of humor 😎🤘🏼
They were so helpful and took such good care of y'all! You guys meet so of the greatest people. 😊

This is why I love you guys " keep positive roll with the punches" we all have a lot to learn from you. Take Care.
I love how you guys always make lemonade out of lemons whenever an unfortunate situation arises. Keep up the great vibes! Love you guys and your videos! Great attitudes!

....and this is the lesson I learned in the past. Same exact situation and from that moment on my LaCie always comes with me
I was surprised after the first crash they didn't buy an external drive to save their data.
Frank!💓🐾 Alot of great people down there.😊 That bread cracked me up.😂Thanks for the laugh.👍😘💞
"And sometimes you just eat bread that's a little bit weird" - next t-shirt from the gloriously wonderful Trent & Allie 😄🥰❤️🙏
Hi guys,
The three things that kill electronics are:
1. Vibration
2. Heat
3. Humidity
Computers are not built like cell phones.

Glad to see 2 brief moments of screen time for Frank! We want more 😄
You guys always make me smile. You have such a great attitude toward life and handle the (inevitable) bumps in the road with such aplomb. Thank you!
An Attitude Of Gratitude is the only way to go...That’s you guys! Hi Frank🙋🏻♂️🐕

When I saw your title I thought you were going to say someone was suing you to cease and desist using "Trent and Allie". lol
Me too 😊
Same lol
Yep I came here to say this same thing. Lol! Whew glad it’s not!
Same LOL
I thought that also. Wierd. LEAW is having all kinds of bad luck also. People are blaming it on the moon. Retrograde or something.
Good attitutde! Making the most of any situation, good or bad will keep you going. And you have each other and Frank!!
"They're killin' everybody out here." LOL
Funny and accurate
It’s the humility it happened to me when i lived in China keep a dehumidifier in your van and keep your equipment close to it it can also happen to your camera equipment
only thing with dehumidifiers-they create more heat and suck a lot of power
You two are so inspiring! Your positivity is infectious first thing in the morning! Love from the Pacific Northwest!
Allie you and Trend have a great attitude. Your fun to watch and you guys are so funny....love you guys
I only started watching you guys when you guys had like 120,000 but I consider myself a big fan!🙌
Love you guys!
Store them in a bag with dehumidifier packets. At the least it will keep them in top mechanical/ technical shape so they'll last longer. Good luck

Binge watching old episodes and it's fun to kind of "get to know you". I started watching when you renovated your camper
remember life can change on a sixpence..you have times like this..think how chronic pain sufferers feel..great vid.
even the bread didnt work out..lol the bread rose and collapsed i reckon..you need a breathable lid/t towel over the bread to make it rise..hahaha

Such great attitudes. Without living and rolling with the punches of van life, it
Could be someone’s worst nightmare. You two make it look easy.
Always a joy to see you guys.. Thanks for making my day a little bit happier. 💗 U Guys. Be safe

Your enemy is moisture! In CR people have “dry rooms” where they run dehumidifiers!!
Some times you’re the windshield and the other times the bug. Keep the positive attitude and adventure up!
LOL, haven't heard that good one in a while.
You know, you have to feed a Sourdough Starter, at least weekly (if refrigerated), with Flour and Water. Then you're Loaf will turn out when you're ready to make Bread.
Not only do you feed it, first you take out 1/2 of the starter before feeding it. I'm making my own, too!
Take the laptop and put it in a bag of rice. The electrical contacts may be oxidizing and if you pull out all the moisture it could help.
OMG 😆 when Jordan asked “do you think mercury is retrograde” I almost fell off my chair. That stuff is so true and it does effect electronics 🤣
'Its dense, dense bread' 😁😁
After the day you guys had had, I thought Allie's summing up was fab. Well done for not totally melting down, not sure I'd have been that cool. Keep going guys you're doing great. 👍
Keep flour by you and dip your hands in it occasionally then rub them together to remove the sticky dough.
Did I miss your link for Matt and Stacy's tour? It's nice that you found nice people to help you out with your laptop.
Never mind, I found them in your videos. I had seen it when you posted it last month. 🙄
Love your attitude, Without challenges victory would be so meaningless!
External hard drive and back up EVERYTHING. I don’t save anything right to my computer.
Agree, I have a external drive I travel with. A backup drive at home and I copy the files I'm editing onto the laptop hdd.
Challenges abound... but you guys are handling it. You've handled everything so far! You will figure it out. And remember... you're loved. We (your subscribers) love you, and that's just a tiny fraction of how much you are loved and supported.
I made some special bread last year and it didn't rise either. Couldn't even cut it! Lol. Thanks for the funny memory
Jocotes when are green are good with salt and when ripe (red, yellow or orange) are good by themselves
Cheap way to reduce the damp is to turn off wrap in kitchen tissue and put in a plastic bag, same with camera's etc
It was the inverter for the backlight on the screen. Go to eBay get your part and swap out out.
You guys never back up your data to the cloud and external drive !!! Ahhhhh, big brother is like " Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell .... God bless you both, be safe :)
