A friend and I did a variation of this before using a penny, nickle, dime and quarter. The mark would choose one of the coins and hide it. My partner in crime would leave the room and come back to guess which coin was chosen. I would position a drink straw at either the north (penny), east (nickle), south (dime) or west (quarter) side of the glass while he was out of the room. Foolproof and mind blowing. It was great.

My friends and I would do a variation of this with a 3x3 grid of cards. The friend without the deck would turn around and then when the card was chosen the one with the deck can show it a few different ways. 1. Point to multiple cards asking if it was the right one, but pointing to the side/corner the chosen card corresponded to. 2. Point to one card using the same method then asking where the guessing friend thought the chosen card was. 3. Friend with deck say nothing but hold the deck casually on table with thumb on corresponding side/corner.

Who's Josie? Also... I played a similar trick using cards. The premise is that you and your cohort have a psychic connection. Use any 10 cards so long as one of them is an actual 10. Arrange the cards in the pattern of the pips on the 10 card. Have anyone choose whichever card they want, while the guesser is looking away. Have the cohort placing their finger on different cards, while the guesser says whether or not it the correct card. During this charade, at some point the cohort places their finger on the 10 card, specifically on the pip that correlates to the card the person chose, in the pattern the cards are laid out. Mix it up hpwever you want to throw someone off, but you get the general idea.
Now I wonder how the helper would place the glass in case the coin wasn't placed under any bottle cap. I'm guessing either holding it or not putting it on the napkin.

I do a similar trick with 10 cards where you place 10 cards face up in the shape of the pips on 10 playing card. All the cards can be random but you can place a 10 in the top middle which would only have 2 cards. The spectator then selects one of the cards whole your back is turned then you get a friend to randomly touch every card with one finger and when he gets to that 10 in the top middle he touches the pip where the selected card corresponds.
"Demonstrate my awesome eyesight" says one of three people with glasses... yeah, sure, okay. Rub it in for the other two then, see if they invite you back to play later.
i saw jason put the glass in a weird spot. but what i wanna know, how do you play it if they move them all into say, a straight line? or some other shape? i guess it could kind of still work, with most shapes, but i think the line could be the hardest.

Another point that helped me pull this off. They can hold coin in hand, then drink is not placed down. This is very important to pulling this off!
