      "Hope you didn't just do sleight of hand right now" - to be fair, he didn't lie. He didn't do any sleight of hand during that game since Josie went first, so all's good!

    • @Tharkon
      @Tharkon 3 года назад

      I think there was some sleight of hand at 2:55 though, though because there are still 17 matches when he took 1, and 18 matches are taken in that game. Was it 17? Eh, yes. That's a hard lie. And at 0:54 there are 16 matches, but 17 matches are taken in the game after it. Real shame though, because it's so much more impressive to win without sleight of hand. Still not sure if he played the first game fairly or if he tried to use sleight of hand and messed up because there were indeed only 16. Either way, he started and a total of 17 were drawn so it ended up a fair game.

    Yo Shwood, I dig the evolution of your channel. You’ve always seemed like a good dude. Stay healthy and if you can tell me what the heck is wrong with the window switch on my 2006 Saab 9-3 I’d appreciate it. I know it’s not the motor, there’s gotta be a short somewhere but I’ll be danged if I can find it. Chris at the shop said the same thing, but he hates working on foreign cars. He also admitted that he’s not the best with electrical work and I said “hey, me neither, that’s why I’m seeing you” and he goes “why the hell’d you buy a Saab anyways?” And I told him it was a good deal. Yeah, I’ve paid a lot for suspension and brakes and such but that V6 with a turbo is worth it. “I still don’t do electrical” Chris tells me. How about it, Shwood, feel like fixing a window switch issue on a 2006 Saab 9-3?

    When I was in 5th grade, I played this game a lot. I never learned the trick to it, but I did learn literally every move. As a high school senior, still before learning the math, I was assigned to program a computer to play the game. We were supposed to have the computer move at random. Instead, I came up with a complex sorting algorith to limit the number of possible scenarios and then hard programmed in the correct response to every scenario. My teacher looked at my code and said "I couldn't follow that, but I can't beat it, so I guess you get an A."
    I have since learned the actual math, though honestly I forget it each time I learn it.
    EDIT: This is not nim. It is a similar, but much simpler game. The math in this one is far easier.

    She pick 2- you pick 2 - she loses;

    I have been playing this game (for free drinks) for 2 decades. Never new it had a name, but the version I learned is slightly different.
    Start with 15 things. As long as you leave the opponent with 14, 9, or 5 you will always win, and there is always a chance to leave them with those numbers within one to two turns and then always after.
    No extras are ever needed to change the values.

    Do you actually need to use the sleight of hand?
    The goal with mirroring is to do it on a even or odd number of sticks. So wouldn't it work just as well if on your first draw you only made the total three instead of four to even out the number on the table and only from there on do the match-four technique?

    It's funny that I already knew this from and old episode of viking vickie. Although Lumperich never started (so that he never had to add an object) and it was about who takes a black casket at the end. But Vickie won in the end by adding an additional object he earned during the episode so that there were 18 objects. (The episode is called "Ein gewisser Herr Lumperich" in germany, it was the 7th episode of the second season or just episode 33).
    In germany the game is called "Nimmspiel" or just "Nimm", which translates to "Take-game" or just "Take". Interesting to see that the name is basically the same in english speaking countries.

Is the sleight of hand for adding the extra match in easier than a sleight of hand for grabbing more than one?

    Not completely fool proof but when starting with 18 just make sure you get the total taken that turn to 5 if they start, that's effectively making it a seventeen start and that way the game is totally fair I believe, the only way to lose would be if they only take singles, which stops you from making the total 5.
    If I'm completely wrong please tell me, I haven't tested it, it was only a thought.

    Can't this game be played with 18 matches from the start? If you go first, just take one, then begin the rounds of 4. If she goes first, add the first round to 5, then to 4 from there on out. That way no one could ever question a sleight of hand trick ;)

    I never did NIM that way. My trick is that I would count in a binary like system and either keep the pile even or odd depending on who goes first.
