The singular of Corydoras is Corydoras. The elegans group, C. napoensis, C. elegans, C. nanus and C. bilineatus possess small mouths for their size, therefore they should be fed small items of food. Corydoras are not blind: their eyesight is good, but their behaviour sometimes confuses people who have little idea of the ecology of the species. The infection you see around the mouth is not caused by a fungus; it is caused by bacteria picked up from the substrate and, if left untreated, the lesions become secondarily infected with fungus. This is the result of a dirty substrate and too few water changes. Treating for fungi and bacteria will cure the infections, as well as keeping the bottom clean and changing water regularly. Corys don't like pH above 7.5, they prefer values between 5.5 and 6.8, depending on the species.
BTW, corys don't have lungs, no matter how primitive you think they are. They breathe in atmospheric air and swallow it, where the oxygen is absorbed through the lining of the gut. Excess gases, CO2 and nitrogen are excreted as tiny bubbles. That's why they should not be kept in deep tanks. One of my lfs kept some beautiful Corys in a 3 ft deep display tank. They all died over a few months, whilst those for sale in the shallow tanks all survived- and they wondered why.

I agree with everything that you said, other than ph tolerance. Corydoras may be found in waters of those ph values, but their tolerance has been found to depend more on the stability of these conditions than the conditions themselves (see ruclips.net/video/B9VfuiWqeY4/видео.htmlsi=8XFyhcxKXJRVHcDJ). I would agree that there is a range, but this is more limited than what is experienced.
I am very appreciative of your comment on infection. It appears that my sand was still dirty in the aquarium, leading to the infection of the catfish I had here, and later on in a different aquarium with the same sand. I have since ceased to have sifting catfish on this substrate and have made greater efforts to clean it.
3ft tanks would not be ideal for any fish so dependent on atmospheric oxygen, however it is quite common to see them I 75 gallon tanks, which are under 2 feet deep, and so don’t cause any noticeable concern that I have noticed in the community.
No, I hadn’t had these fish for long before I created a guide on them, and this was because the only guide circulating was from Dan’s Fish: ruclips.net/video/kmEG6JVLB2k/видео.htmlsi=p5WFW4HhI_CnFesE
My intention was to add to the body of knowledge through my experience with this species and, although it took some time, through corrective commenters like yourself.
