I literally discovered this show during lockdown, and I binged all 39 episodes and the movie in three days. It was honestly a lifesaver and has become my favorite series of all time.
This series is amazing, so surreal and strange and like many have pointed out really wonderful at exploring sexuality, gender, relationships, and adolescence. Every relationship in this show is really twisted though, and I don't mean romantic ones only, I mean ALL relationships. Only interactions that are healthy are between Anthy and Utena.
I love Utena! It is such a clever and mature depiction of feminine journey on search for confidence and inner strength. I think this is the most women empowering anime I have ever encountered.

I watched Utena 15 years ago and didn't tought of it during a lot of years. Today i started rewatching it and i still remember perfectly the opening. This looks promising. Just by watching the first episode i found i remembered the show better than i expected.

exactly I'm a guy, 24 years old and this is one of my favourite anime's of all time it is truly one of the unique pieces of work done in any form of fiction I have seen, very interesting characters, tropes played and deconstructed and even characters like Nanami and even Akio who creeps the hell out of me I felt for by the show's end, this is one of those shows that challenges your views on life. anyways this opening song is awesome loved it so much

Everytime you rewatch it you discover new things, and thus that opens up new possible interpretations. It's been a year since I first watched Utena, and I've already seen it 3 - 4 time. xD As others have said, its a bit of a slow start, but it picks up soon enough. The weird and surreal imagery will definitely keep you coming back. I hope you enjoy/enjoyed it!

Utena and Anthy in full armour in the black and white horses are a reference to the original idea the whole series was based on. Ikuhara's Sailor Moon SuperS movie was going to be about Uranus riding a black pegasus to reach the end of the world and save Neptune from it while the other soldiers rode the white pegasus from the series to chase Uranus and get back their talismans. His idea was rejected, so Utena was born.
I own this series along with the movie and it is a masterpiece, everything about this story is great not to mention the songs like this amazing opening! love Utena!
I think the whole point of the ending is that they DO love each other. And I think that by arguing if they're a couple or not is missing the point of the show.

watching this anime was indeed a unique experience. I would sell my soul to watch this for the first time again.
I own this series along with the movie and it is a masterpiece, everything about this story is great not to mention the songs like this amazing opening!

I think the whole point of the ending is that they DO love each other. And I think that by arguing if they're a couple or not is missing the point of the show.
