I can’t tell you how much it warms my heart to see you and your dad together. I lost my dad in 2019 and what I would give to be able to have him back for anything at all. Treasure the time you guys have together! Cheers and best wishes!
I'm enjoying this video 3 yrs after you posted, Jacob. What a pleasure to watch you and your dad enjoy a beautiful day on the water, fishing together! PLUS the good food you caught!!! My father was a hunter & observing his happiness when he brought home Elk and quail for our table is one of my earliest memories. (that would have been after WWII post 1945) As a woman, there is nothing as exciting and wonderful as having a man bring home food he harvested! (as a young mom, I raised rabbits for our table -- I was content knowing they were raised on clean feed in very large hutches.) Time on the ocean is time well spent. Congratulations on your lifestyle. Very admirable!
You and your dad sharing moments like these is pretty awesome. Thanks for sharing with us! Also really cool 4 generations of father and son sharing the same hobby, passion and line of work.
Love the fishing but your giggle catching those big ones with your Dad was extremely special! Treasure those moments. I was fishing with my Dad when he had a heart attack. It was never the same. Thank you for reminding me of those special times!
Halibut . One of the most tasteist fish in the ocean . I worked on an Icelandic longline boat and now and again we would put a Redfish head on the hooks going out .With some good results !
Interesting..... very interesting. Had halibut this week for the first time in my life.... and I am 75 and born/raised in Maine. Super delicious. thank you for sharing. Oh, my Norwegian Forest Cat loves halibut. Sorry bout that. :)
I was laughing so hard. My dad was a shell fisherman in RI. DAY OFF HE WAS FISHING A BROUGHT IN FLOUNDER AND TOSSED IT UP ON THE GRASS. as a 2 year old I was bent over with my hands under my chin looking at the fish and one jumped up and grabbed me by the elbow. My favorite to fish for.
I agree with the commentary… I love your excitement over yr catch! I’m a 58 yr old women who grew up on Long Island NY fishing since I have a kid.. As I got older.. I started fishing from time to time on a commercial fishing boat.. All I can say is.. When I get the call.. and I’m taking off and going fishing… I learn something ever time on the boat… I wish I could have been a mate!
You & your Dad are great together! Cherish the moments! I've never eaten Halibut, now I want to try it! In south Fla. My favorites are Red Snappers, Sheepheads, Mai Mai, Grouper...I've had big game fish as well, they are all really good eating!
Thanks brotha for the great video..sure makes me wish my Dad and father in-law were still around to enjoy those great fishing days...great to see you with your dad on that boat...
You did very well on a flash fishing trip. One of my favorite meals is Halibut baked then a broiled finish with bread crumbs and real butter, wild rice cooked in German white wine, homemade ice cream with fresh picked strawberries. Yum!
Does your coop sell retail and ship? If so, or if you know of someone who sells retail and ships would you please post info? We are out and I would like to order some Halibut and Scallops. Thanks!
I had some Halibut at the Portland Airport lol (They were fried in cube /nuggets and some of the best fish! ). I wonder how it would taste that fresh!!
Of all the Northern hemispere fish I would like to have in southern waters halibut is it. The biggest flatfish we have in Australia is flounder, they dont get as big as the small one you threw back.
I fished halibut about 10 miles off Homer Alaska, and they are interesting to catch. But the meat is incredible and even a guy who doesn’t like “fishy” LOVES halibut. Those fish are great around the 30-50 pound range, but I’ve seen that they can get as large as 800#!!!
Looks like fun. But one quick bit of advice. Buy a vacuum packing machine. It doesn't need to be a big expensive one, but I've had such good luck with meat and veggies frozen in the thick pouches with no air. But you can get a decent smaller commercial type one for about $300. But I've had a $135 food saver since 2005 that has only needed new foam gaskets every few years. It really keeps foods fresh and freezer burn free.
When I lived in Alaska my other half's cousin went halibut fishing. I took some pieces, put McCormick grill mates seasoning... Three different ones...and corn meal. Placed the seasoning in a Ziploc tossed the fish in... Lightly coated... Heated a fry pan with just a little olive oil... Skin side down until halfway cooked, flipped them over and finished cooking... Don't over cook it turns kinda chewy
congrats on hitting 1k subs, and being able to monetarize. You've got a great channel, and you totally understand modern social media. Keep them coming!!
Hey Jacob, do you have any videos of Lobster fishing? I left Maine way back in 1981. I sure miss it! I lived in Limestone for 3 years. Maine has a Great fishery that's well managed. I now live in California. I do a lot of fishing out the Golden Gate for salmon and halibut! Of course we have different species of halibut and salmon. Pacific and California halibut, and the mighty King Salmon and Coho. We also have many species of tuna off the Southern coast like bluefin! But nothing like the bluefin there! The bluefin tuna is definitely on my bucket list! Also I don't know if you can see my picture but we also do a lot of Sturgeon fishing in the Sacramento River. Anyway great video of you and your dad doing your thing! Maybe someday I'll make it back to Maine.
I have a couple videos showing some lobstering on here not a lot. Not sure if you have tik tok or not but I have more lobster fishing stuff on there! Sounds like you have some fun fisheries out there!! Thanks for the comment
I was really impressed with the long lining technique! Never seen that before for Halibut! Must be a commercial thing! Funny thing! I've actually started looking at property online for land off the coast of Maine. I found some nice property up in the Penobscot area. I remember the winters being a little rough compared to Northern California. LOL! By the way those were some nice size Halibut! What's the biggest you've caught! And where exactly are you located? How far North do they chase the Bluefin?
I've lobster fished all over there and the lunds bait ive hauled alot from cape may to home. We use to haul it bulk 5 feet deep on the reefer trailer floor
Nice Halibut always wanted to catch one on rod and reel. Last year Here on Cape Cod I fought a tuna for three hours stuck him and had the gaff on the tail went berserk pulled the gaff out of my hands and snapped the leader .Towed me for half hour and pulled the Lilly. my next tuna was 675 lb got 1.50 a pound that sucked.Great video
Nice Bert's There was a few big ones caught this year I heard one guy had one 185 Any Bert is a good one I may give it a try next year I always wanted to just haven't yet
I worked on a salmon boat in Alaska in the 1980's. One day we were fishing shallow and dragged the bottom, bringing up a massive halibut. As soon as it was on deck our cook freaked-out: "Look at those cheeks!" he exclaimed. "They're the size of steaks!" I didn't know what the big deal was, but he immediately cut off the cheeks, whipped up a little seasoning mix and cooked them. Maybe 20 minutes from the time it landed on deck until we were eating those cheeks. And it ruined me. No fish in my life has ever come close to tasting as good as those cheeks tasted. I'm still chasing that dragon ... er, halibut.
We are looking to start tub trawling next season? Any books you recommend? Looking for information on how long of leader on the line, size of circle hooks, clips, anything/everything related would be helpful... just looking for someone to point me in the direction.
- 15:43 when he burns his hand he will know what hot means. Trust me my son learned the hard way with my baby father. I learned when I was little also, I heard, "don't touch it's hot", but I didn't understand what it meant until I hurt myself.

Right, lost my dad in 2020 then my mom 8 months later.. My dad and his friend started me fishing at age 5

Hearing you and your dad laughing like kids was the most joyous thing I've seen on the internet in ages. Regards from Scotland.
Yessir I would love to have my dad in the boat catching fish like these 2. Jacob and J-bird one of your best videos ever IMO
I'm a Scots in germany, Jacobs laugh is so infectious
You can truly feel the trill and the love of it between you and your old man! Priceless times
What beautiful memories with your dad. Blessings 🙌 tobyoucall, especially to that little one. 🙏 ❤🎉

They are very muscular fish, that is, if fish have muscles. Jacob is landing them with ease!
@@lilytheboycat How would they move if they didnt have muscles
@@aliciadalbey1201
You're correct. Whatever it is that makes fish violently strong makes big halibut tough to land.
You are not only successful fisherman but talented editor😊
and a great son😎😎😎
Such beautiful coastline Jacob, and what a fish! Yum. Thanks for sharing.
The lord loves a happy fisherman you two were giggling like school kids, great job guys!!
Glad you spend one on one time with your Dad. Nice day! Thanks so much
Watching 4 years later. The happiness you show when you land the fish with your dad warms the heart. Thanks for sharing yourself with us!

I tried Halibut when I went to Alaska, best fish I've ever had.
Escolar and chilean sea bass are so good if you haven't tried.
Thank you for father and son fishing video. Remembering how we fish the Eastern Sierra's Nevada.

300# and larger there called whales!
Wow, congrats! I've had Maine halibut, I'd be ecstatic too!
Living on West coast, we ate a lot of halibut. Great tasting fish, fun to fish as well.
A lot of restaurants use it for fish anď chips.

Thanks a lot scott!
The LED lighted squid work exceptionally well for halibut. Typically get about 5-6 per unit then replace.v Cost of the LED worth it.
Beautiful water today! I like halibut too!
You have definitely got the rich life🎉

Been to 48 states, Connecticut & Maine are the last 2. Love watching you lobstering
Very enjoyable ! Thanks.

It's nice that you and your Father can work together like that.
I love halibut although very expensive in the shops in UK and only farmed
Wow I didn't think you had Halibut, just tasty lobster!
By the way the West Coast is the best coast !!!!

Halibut is so delicious!
Never knew there was halibut on the east coast first time hearing this. Always thought there were only fluke and flounder
I love halibut also but I'm particular! I prefer Pacific halibut v. Atlantic halibut!😅

I didn’t know we have halibut in Maine !! 😮
Never had halibut but if they taste anything like that other tasty flatfish Fluke, or Summer Flounder as some call it, thats some good eating.....
I tried to live in a few other states, but there's no state like Maine!

We are heading close to the Colorado Rockies going to fish for trout.
There are days i really miss home(Millinocket) Maine, as Tim Sample says i am a Native, i have papers to prove it. Military retired to Montana

Never had any idea that halibut where found on the west coast
I LIKE HALIBUT ,VERY EXPENSIVE IN THE UK
You go fishing for a living, to provide for your family, I go fishing just for the halibut
awesome. wish you more in years coming
Hi! Love your content and started following you because your lobster videos are so engaging. Do you still do halibut or tuna fishing?
Nice! I’m envious
Nice catch, I actually just caught a halibut on my channel like a week ago.
Silly question did you inherit your boat from your pa🤔
Do you bleed out those Halibut right after you bring aboard?? Or when do you process them??
I did not realize there were halibut in the Atlantic, you never hear about them being caught in Maine only in the PNW and Alaska.
My mom called Halibut “chicken if the sea”.
