Not necessarily. It can be used to troubleshoot anything that would cause a cylinder to not produce equal power, such as ignition, injector, or compression problems.
@737mechanic dang, I just did a timing job on a 2006 Ford F-150 5.4l 3V the truck had codes for timing plus the phaser broke the valve covers now it doesn't have any codes I drove the truck for like 30 miles still NO codes but it shakes on idle. So, I did the power balance and it shows no. 8 issues what you think that I should look for. Sometimes customers doesn't understand this kind of issues.
@@mtsanchez27 I would do a reletive compression chack if the truck allows that and if the scan tool has the option. Also you could swap the #8 coil with another one to see if the problem follows or stays on cylinder 8. You also need to see if the injectors are flowing equal to each other by doing a injector balance test.
@@mtsanchez27 So that means the timing chains should be good. and that each cylinder should be close to one another. Next thing is see if there is an injector balance test. If not I have a video on how to use a 3rd party tool to check and make sure each injector is flowing exactly the same. ruclips.net/video/tHIwaRotrVo/видео.html Also if it is just an idle issue you could clean the throttle body.
This version of the power balance is a ford specific feature but other manufacturers have power balance functions that normally show just numbers of each cylinder and you can compare each number to get an idea of which cylinders are contributing and which are not
Hello, I recommend Topdon's Phoenix Elite to you, it supports full-system diagnostics for more than 200 brand models, and covers a wide range of models. Here's a video I made of balancing PCM Power for a 2013 Ford with this device: ruclips.net/video/3DeI7sB6AY8/видео.html , you can take a look, it might help you. There are more videos on my homepage of different devices performing functions for different car models! Come in and see, there may be surprises!
Thank u for sharing your knowledge on the 906 please continue your videos I recently purchased a ts model
I can't figure out how to do an injector balance test on my 2014 mustang gt. Seem like it won't do it.
I would need to scroll through the options and see what it has. I am sure there is something.
@737mechanic I called the support line, and evidently, it doesn't support my vehicle for that function
Is this the same for 6.0 powerstroke?
So, the power balance it's most likely to diagnose an injector?

@737mechanic you know what's weird? That the relative compression seems to be good in all the cylinders with the scan tool

Does this feature ONLY work on Fords?
