    I ride motorcycles and I have one Honda Goldwing that has a sidecar on it and I used that bike to pull my Bunkhouse camper. It's made for motorcycles. However I recently sold the bunkhouse trailer and also one of my motorcycles and I bought a kit to put together a teardrop trailer. I'm very excited about it,
    So I love your channel very much. I have Camp ever since I was 12 years old. I've had several pop-ups and hard tops and I love now camping on the smaller scale. I love the adventure you provide and honesty, you are so awesome, keep up the good work, I wish you the very best.

    I installed a Propex heater in my homemade camping trailer in January and it’s a game changer. Winter camping is now completely practical and easy with the Propex. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Cosmo, your informative videos and data encouraged me to go for it. Many thanks!

    • @jmpattillo
      @jmpattillo 3 года назад

      I wish more RV makers would install them. They are a bit more efficient than equivalent suburban/dometic units, and apparently much quieter if you install the acoustic duct.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 года назад +1

      Congratulations Lauren! I have spent many a cozy night with the Propex keeping me warm. I agree its a game changer.. Please note. At one point this fall I had to reset my Propex after some rough conditions. Clearing the error code would not work. I had to disconnect the power from the small white box and the larger blue unit for about 10 seconds. Then reconnect the power and the error code could be cleared again. After that no issues. It was a tense few moments in the middle of the Adirondacks with very cold weather approaching so I was very happy after that! At some point I will add this to a video. Regards =Cosmo

    I remember my boyscout snowbird camping days and it was freezing, my dad and I had to sleep in same canvas sleeping bag, you’ve come along way from those low tech days and seem to have perfected it, not many can enjoy the winters like you do, what do you do during the day? Hikes, photos, ski, snow shoe, read, cook, drink, then repeat! Good for you cosmo!

      Yes hikes photos and outdoor fun. I may include more in the future. My first winter camp out (which included snow) was with the Boy Scouts. I may have learned more on that trip than any other. I prefer low tech solutions. Despite all the gear I take for fun and comfort the sleeping bag one piece of gear I make sure is up for the job Thanks for watching =Cosmo

    Thanks for reminding me what it’s like camping in a teardrop trailer during rough winter weather. One of my most fun camping trips ever was with a group of teardrop friends. It was -30 C with snow squalls off of Lake Huron in Ontario. My down jacket froze to the wall overnight! You might consider a Car Generator. They have a model for quick charging your trailer battery. It hardly takes up any room at all. You can also consider a Battleborn lithium battery and using a heat blanket you can buy for them. That way you would have a lot more power with much less weight. Anyway, just some ideas!

    Nice teardrop. I built our's back in 2013 and we have had that thing all over the eastern half of the country. From the mountains of VA, to the plains of SWMO, and from the Great Lakes to the Gulf. When I started talking about building one, my wife said that she would miss "sleeping under the stars" in a tent, so I made our's with a convertible top, with no-see-um mesh. So my roof has ZERO insulating abilities.

    We have been using a Wave 3 heater for a few years now. They’re not perfect but zero electric draw is nice. Just crack a window for safety. They do take up some room though. We made the mistake of trying to vacuum ours off and damaged it. Cost $145 to repair and about a month turn around time. Just a thought. Better than mr heater I believe. Could supplement your propex and save a little battery power.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 года назад +2

      HI AA! I agree Wave 3 has a great reputation. The moisture put out by burning propane is very noticeable in my small space. I was damp and clammy and felt chilled when I exited the trailer. Walls had noticeable wetness in my case. Personal preference and many other factors go in to our choices. The Propex outputs 6500 BTUs the Wave 3 outputs 3000 BTUs if my research is correct. Perhaps its under powered for your needs. For example I converted BTUs to watts for an electric heater comparison. 3000 BTUs is only 879 watts which is not going to make you cozy in my opinion. . My heater at 6500 BTUs is comparable to a 1900 watt heater. I would rather see you get hotter. This is dead reckoning and may not stand up to science (my calculation). =Cosmo

    • @averagealice8877
      @averagealice8877 3 года назад +1

      @@CosmoWeems Thanks. Yes the Wave 3 doesn't cut it as our only heater, so we sometimes use the 16K BTU Suburban heater, which guzzles electricity (it's great first thing in the AM). Feeling damp and clammy is not good, especially on your bed and clothes! For some reason we haven't felt that way with our Wave 3...perhaps we need to try more sub-32 degree camping. Mainly our windows drip in the morning and we keep wiping them down with a towel (which then needs to be dried out somewhere later, so if drying towels is impractical then I wouldn't get a Wave heater!) Sometimes we run the fantastic fan for a few minutes. Running the Wave 3 even part-time does save us a lot of electricity. You are truly a dedicated outdoorsman camping in that weather there!

      Patrick, Thank you for your service. My sleeping bag is very warm. But the down compresses beneath it and provided me almost no insulation. In the trailer it does not matter with the mattress. I was Army, and we used the 4 piece sleep system. Outer part was a Gore-Tex bivvy. The next layer was a heavier duty bag, rated for colder weather. The inner bag was lighter, and rated down to I think 40*F. The fourth piece was a compression bag. With all layers combined, we used it down to -20*F, at Fort Drum, not far at all from where Cosmo is camping. It worked so well, and I was so impressed, I bought one for myself, and I have it packed in an old rucksack, along with everything I need to build a fast deployment shelter.

    Enjoyed the video Cosmo ,I'm just parked for the night here outside Minneapolis catching up on all my vids to watch, at least in weather like that you don't have to worry about anyone camping nearby . I notice in the different trucks I have driven that some makes are insulated better then others and all of them have had the Wabasto diesel fired bunk heater and they really work well so I don't need to keep the truck running like tonight it's gonna be 0'F and I'll be toasty warm with the truck off. Hey I was thinking you need to do another bush plane trip I enjoyed that vid.take care till next time.

      Hey Duane. Nice to hear from you. Was talking to a relative in Hayward Wisconsin and it went down to -37F!!! We are getting one heck of a winter. I have heard many good things aabout the Wabasto heater. I did spend a lot of time considering them. Probably my lack of knowledge on the subject when I was shopping for a heater 6 years ago caused me to overlook them. They are growing in popularity every year. Hang in there and enjoy the warmth and entertainment. I have to say I have been in many a hotel room with environmental systems humming and nice drapes. But I prefer the luxury of my trailer far more! Regards =Cosmo

    In such small dimensions, with such temp variations as you mention from corner to corner, I believe it's gotta be fun attempting to balance and or increase your efficiency in all sorts of manners. Any reason aside from the possible lack of material to try using styrofoam or otherwise plugging your finger hold slide holes? I would also hit the obvious: given the temp and outside conditions, no way would I leave one of those blankets folded up unless I didn't have a pillow lol; I'd spread it out and utilize it as another ceiling or wall of insulation. I dig your shares, and appreciate your taking the time to do so; cheers✌🤙

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 года назад +1

      You have very valid points Doug. Thank You. You are right while out there I did not have materials for modification but I indeed took lots of notes. If the blankets were not on me I was warm enough. My primary camping is usually in warmer weather. I knew the capabilities of what the camper can do before hand and accepted some of the limitations and just insulated me better. The interior of the trailer was always cozy warm. Exterior tent is not insulated and I wasted fuel in my case. I am normally very concerned about resources and air pollution but for the 8 days I was there I was focused on comfort. Thank you for your suggestions. I am adding them to my notes. You may appreciate this video ruclips.net/video/8gI6q4R8ih4/видео.html Thank You for watching. I have a roof vent and 2 ventilation ports on the low front Its bottom up ventilation that helps carry my warm moisture out same as a teepee or any of the shelters that have been in use for thousands of years. Somewhat practical to get an idea for LP level. But wouldn't a meter be easier. Man love this what you're doing. But if you're are trying to grab energy through solar OUCH! Then you're plan be B should be Lithium generator or an actual inverter generator. Yes that means carry gas tank.. But for what your using it. One gallon will last you all night.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 года назад +1

    I'm thinking my RAV4 Hybrid or maybe a Sienna AWD Hybrid w/built in 1500 watt 110v inverter would be a pretty nice tow rig for when you need a boost in energy and the sun isn't cooperating. Or go all out with a F150 with the built in 7.6kw inverter, with a 30 amp RV connection in the bed, 1.6kw battery pack and 4wd...Might be the go to tow rig for more off grid travel than the typical campgrounds.

    Question Cosmo: when the temps get to 9 deg F does the drop in propane pressure reduce the output of the Propex heater? I see your tanks sitting in the snow. I have experience with this. I was once staying in a cabin in the Sierra Nevada mountains when it was that cold. Even though the propane wall heater appeared to be working, the cabin got colder. The heat output was less because the gas pressure was reduced, and was not enough to heat a whole cabin. Maybe the volume of your RV is small and the reduction is not noticeable. I am interested in getting a heater. Your descriptions of your heater help. Thanks!

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 года назад +1

      Humm Propane boils at -43F. Almost all propane tanks are out in the snow and exposed to cold. I am sure it reduces performance. The Propex never fails to keep my cabin as warm as I want it. In an RV it definitely takes more fuel to heat what is being lost to thin insulation. The space you want to heat needs to be measured to make sure 6500 BTUs is the right size. My trailer is small. Once you have the cubic foot of the area to heat you can look up the right capacity very easily. =Cosmo

    Nice video Cosmo! I’m going to put a HS2000 in the teardrop I’m having built. I wonder if a dehumidifier would help with the condensation? I will be full timing in mine!

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 года назад +1

      Hi Its tough to say, A cold glass can condense even in air conditioning which lowers the humidity. I think its just a guy breathing in a small place. Fortunately in my case its controllable. I had a MR heater and I felt damp and wet (no exaggeration). Thats fine for a weekend. I was out 8 days and with a MR heater that would be real n trouble with water. I get less humidity when I crack the vents so the water can be carried out. I am very happy with the Propex performance. Its been a real BIG improvement in the trailer luxury. Hello SA The stoves are good. The thing to be aware of is Butane is not good in cold weather. Propane or a propane Butane mixture is better for cold weather. I was thinking that a lithium battery combined with a smaller lead acid would be a good combination, as long as the lithium is kept in the heated space. The lead acid could be used to run a battery heating jacket in case the lithium is in danger of falling below freezing

      There are systems that can work. If I had anther trailer built I would go for 2 batteries. I prefer the simplest system I can get that is field repairable. • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  2 года назад +1

      Lithium can not be recharged below +30F and will not output power below +16F. This is one of the reasons they are not used for car batteries. You can heat the battery etc to get around this. Tesla does that. Best to get the right battery for what you are doing. 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos ruclips.net/user/cosmoweemsvideos
