  • @coldfoot99
    @coldfoot99 5 лет назад +6

    Just for info you might consider that propane vaporizes at -44 degrees F. The colder that bottle gets, the lower the gas output. The vaporization occurs from the sides of the tank, not at the liquid surface...so as you consume the propane the "gas" supply diminishes, therefore the BTU(s) available diminish. Also, keep in mind that the condensation that occurs in your trailer is of concern. Moisture is a big problem in RVs. Be sure to allow your trailer to fully ventilate and dry internally after use. 22 years as an RV technician in Alaska so I've had some experience with the cold.

    First I have heard of this heater. Nice review. I currently use a wave3 with great success. My teardrop is very well insulated so even the wave3's 1600 BTU is too much. I turn it on and in about 5-10 min it's 80 deg. OAT 17deg. Because of how well the trailer is insulated i must turn it off and usually relight only one time during the night. Wall Sweating is not a problem for me because of the short operating time. I only wish it was thermostat operated like this one. A 4# propane tank lasts me a couple weeks. This one looks quite large and seems a little noisy though. Biggest advantage of the wave is it needs no electric. Enjoyed your story. Happy camping!

    Cosmo, you seem like such an extraordinary person. I just love your personality, it makes me just want to hang out with you in your teardrop camper and talk about life. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, sending you positive thoughts and prayers. Even with all of what you are going through, and the weight on your shoulders, you just stay positive and keep doing your best with your new roles. You're in a penthouse, but you are still so humble and all you can think about is sleeping in your teardrop camper while testing the heater, and probably keeping your mind off of things. That is a great disposition to have. I'd be privelaged to have a friend like you. Best wishes, and here's to a positive new future! :)

    The frozen or moisture on the metal is only metal that is in contact with the outside. The fender bolt the door seals. They are both outside and inside, Frost and moisture is just the fact of that scenario. Nothing wrong at all. Just the way it has to be. It was dry at the top because heat rises and was enough to keep the inside metal dried off. Good video love that heater.

    Excellent video. Good information. I run a Mr Heater a lot in both my 16 ft Scamp , in a wall tent, and in the back of my pick-up truck. In the Scamp I occasionally run it all night all night while sleeping and in the tent as well (depending upon ambient temp of course). In the pick up I run it in the evening, sleep, and then run it in the AM. Always with plenty of ventilation.
    In fact, the Mr Heater has an automatic low oxygen shut-off feature so when O2 gets low it shuts down. Plus I have carbon monoxide and fire detectors in the Scamp. I've never had significant condensation probably because of more than adequate ventilation. Even during lengthy burns. So great heat and safe, in my opinion and the way I run it. The most negative aspect is the fact it throws off too much heat even set at 4,000 BTU (mine runs at 4,000 or 9,000 BTU).
    However, I would like something thermostatically controlled or more adjustable so it could be set at a lower burn. And something more aesthetically pleasing that discharges to the exterior. Considering a Dickinson.
    I was surprised at how much propane the Propex consumes. I've done a little research on them but missed that apparently. I can run the Mr Heater for probably a week on a 20-gallon tank even if it's used a lot. Very efficient compared to the Propex.
    New York. Weird!! Like a different planet to me. I could survive in the wilderness but suspect I'd last about an hour in a city like that.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  5 лет назад +2

      Consumption numbers were worst case - running 100% of the time. Thermostat lowers that drastically. Propex uses far less fuel than mr heater for that reason, ruclips.net/video/V8OHRW98G5U/видео.html Thank You! Check my other

      If you're carrying 20 gallons of propane, anything would run on that for a lot more than a week. The 'Buddy' heater is barely more efficient than the Propex, but it is also not safe to use in a non-vented space. The Propex is 6500 btu ouput. Personally, I prefer forced air heat instead of radiant for campers. Radiant can't circulate, and there is only one barely-known radiant heater that is truly vented outside and safe to use in a closed camper.

    Nice to be comfortable in there. Just so you know...a candle flame can keep you alive in sub zero temps. You'll be cold as hell but you won't freeze to death. When I would go to Northern Manitoba, I'd take candles and sterno just in case I broke down. I was told to do that by some friends that had that sub zero experience.

      I Excellent point! carry about 20 Tea Light candles and 2 tealight lanterns in case I need to use them outdoors. I warmed the trailer from 30F to 40F in one hour. I think one candle produces 100 BTUs. Candles are reliable cheap and a good strategy Thank You! Check my other

    That's a great little heater ! Very efficient !. My parents had an Airstream Bambi. (they were sorry they sold it) but it had a flat propane heater on the wall near the door. It would blow you out of the place ! It made so much heat ! It was only a couple inches wide and ..like a foot square. But you could see the flame travel from the bottom to the top of the heater...like with a wicking action. I thought it was weird, but it made heat, man did it make heat ! lol. Peace.

    Hi Cosmo, Thanks for the review. I have a camp inn 550 without the furnace option so use a ceramic heater when I have hook ups and recently bought a little buddy. One thing I find is that the warm air definitely stratifies - it's like going through thermoclines if you are a scuba diver. To address this, I got a small clip on USB fan that I aim at the ceiling. It's just enough to push that warm air down to the bed level.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Ben. I have a ceramic and Lil Buddy too. With Lil buddy I had to keep the top vent open which did suck the hot air up and cold air was pooling on the floor. It was very noticeable. Since this heater vents to the outside I can keep the roof vent closed that creates a bubble of warm air that collects and fills the cabin. Vistabule has vent ports at floor level I can crack if I need air (in addition to roof vent and windows). My point is - its working! Probably works same way for you with the electric heat. THANK YOU! Just a suggestion. You can easily get a 20 lb. propane tank and effectively double your capacity. On most travel trailers they have twin tanks on the trailer tongue. Just get one of the tank racks and mount it to your tongue. Now you have a week worth of fuel and no issues with storage.

    • @CosmoWeems

      Thanks the issue is the tongue weight. I am at the high end now and a bigger tank would put me over the limit. I can carry a small additional tank if I need to . Check my other

    • @CosmoWeems

      Naaa Moisture control in this trailer is the best I have seen. Mr heater would put 20 ounces of water per pound i of propane burned into the air, One night and the walls would be dripping., Not so with my setup. The products of complete combustion (which you should get if you are using a propane heater properly) are carbon dioxide and water. The heater you built in vents those products to the outside air. The Buddy heater does not vent those products to the outside. That carbon dioxide and water are vented inside the heated area. There is no water in propane unless the place that filled the tank has a very significant problem. The water that condenses on the walls when using a heater not vented to the outdoors is the inevitable product of the combustion process. Propane is not a wet heat. Combustion is a water producing process.

    Hello there Cosmos! My sincere condolences about your friend. First time viewer here, that’s moved from the cold N. E. Of massachusetts to Sunny Florida after we retired. We have also had lots of nice camping experiences in heat and cold, I’ll be honest, I’ll take cold, not frigid cold but cold, over anything over say 75%, why? Well I sleep better in cool air all bundled up in a good sleeping bag, plus the heaters I use, either propane while no power available, or a very efficient electric Fake Wrought Iron Wood Burners, that weights very little, takes up little space, looks nice and warm like there’s actually a fire and has a ducted fan blowing out the bottom, that very quiet and helps keep the floor nice and warm. With that there is very little condensation created. The coldest trip we’ve made was from mass in January 4, 2018, where the first night at a WallMart in Easton Pa, the temp was down to 20%! We were on our way to Key West, but was so cold when we left I made sure there was a new battery and plenty of propane. Even with a steady wind, especially on the hill we parked where security told us to, we were both toasty all night! Even going to the toilet late at night, sure we had no running water, or water in the fresh tank, but you learn to adapt and what I did was flush with potable water mixed with RV antifreeze in a bucket, that you can use to do the dirty deed to rinse the pot out into the black water/poop tank, that keeps it from freezing till we get down south. Mind you there are no RV Parks open in the off season up north! But we were fine and on the second night at an open RV Park in N. Carolina that was still only 22%, the little fake woodstove was better than the noisier propane fan heater! So it’s nice to have site power! Those two systems have worked great, our little travel trailer is a Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup 16FQ, that has a walk around queen bed and nice size dry bath, but only weighs fully loaded 4,300 lbs! So hey have fun out there and stay safe!

    Maybe you should invest in a custom camper and have adequate spray foam insulation installed. It's light weight and efficient in winter and summer.
