the noise you hear just before the coyotes start howlin, the moose noise, is actually an elk. its the mating call of an elk. they make this horrible noise during their mating season and its called a bugle. its a scary sound if you hear it at night, and it sounds like a whistle, and a scream at the same time. this scene always freaked me out as a kid. Hell im 26 years old and this scene still gives me the willies. LOL! what's a moose? more like a killer moose! haha!
This reminds me of the time in college when we went backpacking through the mountains and the first night in camp the forest came alive like in this scene *shivers*
This movie freaked out so many of us as kids and had so many scary moments. But if the turkey didn't scare the shit out of you, the description of the moose and the coyotes and elk screaming in the night did.
I had this movie on VHS growing up. For some reason when Chance says "What was that??", my sister told me that part scared her so badly when she was around the age of 4. I guess it must have been just the suspense of the whole thing
0:12 I don’t like sleeping in the forest either and seriously how many more of us as kids are so scared hearing that noise of that scream and growl?! Even some as adults are still afraid since childhood!
agreed, I remember when I was little I used to be creeped out by this scene over and over again and even with the cougar attack it stills gives me chills to this day!
@dmc97ingc I remember turning off all my lights at night and watching this scene over and over again. I even had a dream once where they went back, only Delilah from the second film was there too and the outline of the moose was visible. Oh, and I recently watched this scene again and I noticed more moose noises when Chance asks "What's a moose?" and Shadow answers. It creeped me out even more.
Yeah this scene was really well done. I watched this movie for the first time in a good 6 or so years, and I was hit with such nostalgia. lol this scene really impressed me. It's got just the right mix of eerieness and hilarity. =)
😂 thank god this classic had funny heartwarming moments otherwise I would be balling my eyes out I still do years and years later I named my first cat after sassy in this movie
@@mariuskristensen1867 I mean classic Disney humor, the line "what's a moose" It's the funniest thing in the movie That's why I said classic Disney. All Disney movies may have Issues, tragedies, Etc; but I also has funny moments.
this scene when I first seen it, I'll admit scared me I don't know why but I had a nervous feeling while watching it. probably cause I'm terrified of forests in the dark and what's out there
@imagine778, Have you ever seen the popular horror film "THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT" (1999)? If the look of forests at nighttime scares you--not that I'm making fun of you for having such a fear--then you might not want to watch that movie, although it is very well-made. I even like the two sequels that most film critics and moviegoers who saw them during their respective theatrical releases didn't care for, "BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2" (2000) and Adam Wingard's "BLAIR WITCH" (2016). LIONSGATE and BLUMHOUSE are currently in the process of producing a fourth "BLAIR WITCH" movie. I do think that the brief tracking shot of the darkened forest with the almost bloodred-like look of the sky from the fading sun, the bluish-purple mist against the black trunks of the tall trees, and the dark ocean blue-black look of the ground in this scene from Disney's film adaptation of "HOMEWARD BOUND: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY" (1993), which is shown in this video at the time stamps between 0:12 to 0:14 is rather unsettling--especially when Chance says, "I'm tired and I'm hungry, and this place is spooky. I don't like it here" just before that shot begins. The dark can be scary, especially when you don't know what's looking in the shadows. What you can imagine is sometimes even more terrifying than what you might actually see. I guess that's why "THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT" is so effective for the people who like it.
I totally feel for Chance when he says: *"this place is spooky, I don't like it here. Gives me the creeps."* I was like, you're not the only one dude! Because watching this scene as a kid, like so many others, scared me. So much so, it kind of gave me a fear of camping in the woods at night. Especially, in woods like these where the trees are *massive* and you don't know what's hiding behind them. Or *in* them for that matter. And that creepy music didn't help either with what I was seeing or my folks telling me stories about bigfoot in the woods. I personally have never gone camping or been in the woods like this before. But, I would not want to be in their situation. It's funny how the tone completely changes here, then it continues on like nothing happened after that spooky night.
same here, watching this scene as a kid effectively killed any desire I had to go camping, this and Prophecy (1979) even as an adult, this scene gives me the chills..
@@spencermccarthy5157 What I mean is the mindset of surviving the forest is to be in charge of it while doing a tough hike or sleeping overnight on a tent with a fire as well as like it. Any ounce of fear will be sensed by predators if they’re out there.
It's funny that you asked the exact question that Chance was asking, in terms of wondering what the noise was. Having this movie on VHS growing up, this part scared my sister really badly
The growl is what scared me as a kid. I vaguely knew what elk and coyotoes sound like, but that low growl. Probably a forshadowing of what theyd encounter later in the movie.
Well damn it Marty. I sound like that guy from cocoon and I look like an old senile Goldie and who's this Aunt May from the Mark Webb Spider-Man movies as a cat. I told you not to go for a joyride in the freaking DeLorean, pup.

First of all that sound was a lion.

This scene scared me as a kid. The owl and the coyotes along with the unnecessary build up score 😭

I can’t blame Chance, I would hate to sleep in the wilderness at night with a bunch of scary noises

I think the boom mic picked up the snake's tongue flickering, which is pretty cool

That was likely a sound effect added into this scene during post-production.
