I cried when Shadow rescued that little girl in the forest. Then even more when he fell into the pit and couldn’t get out with chance. Then absolutely SOBBED when he came up the hill to greet Peter. This… is an epic tale of Animals love for their humans. Absolutely remarkable and perfect story telling. Timeless. Not to mention the incredible directing of these animals for the over all shots of the film. INCREDIBLE!!!
You know what it is? It’s the voiceover that makes this scene so emotional. Shadow being old and going through the journey that he did and still saying how much he worried about Peter gets me every single time
For me it was when the boy gives up turns his back then his mom made that shocked sound and the boy stops realizing shadow was back. I'm not crying you're crying 😭😂
37... and just lost our family dog she was 15 years and 5 days old... and held many of us together we're broken hearted but ...she's finally resting..thank you jasmine 💓
I lost my last dog, Missy, when she was 15 years and 9 months (almost 16 years old) back in 2018. She was the oldest dog we ever had (adopted her at 8 months old in May 2003). As much as I love my current dog (he's about 7 or 8 years old now), she was the dog I had the strongest bond with.
I lost my dog two tears ago to cancer. We ended up having to put her down and I never felt the same again. No matter where you are, remember to cherish your pets. Hug them, play with them, like you'll never get to do it again.
Just sitting here randomly crying on a Thursday night. I saw this movie hundreds of times when I was little. I know the ending by heart. And I still cry. Every Time.
I had a Golden Retriever pup. I learned that he and Shadow actually were born from the same litter. I miss him every day, and the ending always hit hard for me. Dogs are man's best friend, never forget that.
The thing that really makes this movie, is that the voice actors were very appropriate for each animal. A young MJ Fox as Chance, the playful, naive, risk-taking pup. Sally Field as spoiled, quippy, and queenly Sassy. And Don Ameche as the trusty, honorable and wise Shadow. IMHO, it's Ameche's unique voice that lends itself perfectly to this role. Just hearing it conveys all the things that one would think you would hear if Shadow could talk. His voice is unmistakably elderly, yet venerable, and it absolutely shepherds our emotions into a place where we can relate to having lost and then found those beloved animals that have somehow become a part of our lives, even if only for a short while. I love this scene so much. RIP Don Ameche, and thank you for giving us this little gem of nostalgia from our childhood.
The fact that this was one of Don Ameche’s final roles before his death (and the last to be released in his lifetime) makes this scene even more poignant than it already is.
Derrick Bell morning my # 1 homeward bound partner / bro ! uh allow me to introduce myself my name is Johnathan Clark & i'm an huge fan of homeward bound & i was wondering if u can add me on messenger pretty please cuz i have a question bout 1 of the scenes from the movie or what ?
The Golden Retriever has always been and will always be the all American dog. The true family dog that would go to the ends of the earth for their owners and shows the utmost love for them. I know it’s just a film, but when Shadow said “Peter, I worried about you so” it shows the devotion and love that he has for his owner. Shadow was an old man who just went though an exhausting and painful journey that surprisingly didn’t kill him. Shadow was the one that was in danger, yet he was more worried about Peter, his owner, who was safe at home than he was about himself. He loved him and cared for him the way a Grandfather does for his Grandson.
"All-American" gimme a break, people all over the world have Golden Retrievers, what is it with you American's and thinking the world revolves around you?
You know, it's the music and the situation and everything... but it's Don Ameche's voice, I think had they used someone else it MIGHT not have been so incredibly happy. His deep, grandather-y voice just made it perfect.
Ashley Griffith Bruce Broughton is the composer. The album name is the same as the movie. The track playing in this scene is called Reunited. The entire album is great.
Everything about this scene is beautiful. The music, the cinematography, the dialogue, the emotions, the love, the old-fashioned family values, it’s enough to make you instinctively cry tears of joy.
This is one of those rare movie endings to have it all: the characters, the voices, the emotional balance, the background music, the shots, all of it, really. I haven't seen too many movie endings that can capture all of that.
As a musician and music educator with decades of orchestra experience, I can’t emphasize enough how significant the moment is @ 1:55 when the French horns started playing. It was perfectly placed as Shadow hobbled over the hill
I saw this movie when it was first released and I got an American Bulldog as my first dog because of Chance. I lost her this past May. Today in January 1st and was my first time watching it after she passed. I decided to watch the Homeward Bound in her memory and the movie that was responsible for inspiring me to own such an amazing dog.
I can tell you from 21 years now of owning 3 golden retrievers, 1 girl and 2 boys at different times in my life, that Goldens are the absolute best breed of dog in the entire world. My 3rd golden, a male named Levi, passed away from a brain tumor last month. He was 9.5, and I had the most special and incredible bond with him. He was my best friend, loyal companion, adventurous, playful, and had the most beautiful and fun personality. If your considering getting a golden, do it. They enrich our lives with so much love, joy and happiness. Just make sure to get from a great registered breeder. And do your research! 🙂🐕
