Shadow: *fought a puma, jumped in rapids, fell down a railroad pit* Also Shadow: "oh Peter I was so worried about you, I'm so glad you're okay" Dogs are too pure
Dogs do care about us. My son-in-law's parents have a Shetland Sheepdog who played fetch with me and brought the ball back, dropping it in my lap. Somehow, he knew I was sick. About 6 weeks later, I was diagnosed with cancer. The family came to clean my house, bringing him along. He sniffed around, looked at my daughter, and seemed to say, "This is your mom's house, but where is she?" I really wished I could have told him I was in the hospital to make him understand. Dogs can detect cancer, low blood sugar, seizures, and a lot of other things. Dog is man's best friend because "Dog spelled backward is God."

Shadow's leg is beat up and he's a muddy mess and he's only worried about Peter. All of his dialogue is "i worried about you" and "i thought about you all the time." Just so awesome. Shows you the heart of a dog.
Yeah that is a good part. I also really love Chance running and yelling to Jamie. All through the movie he keeps saying that he doesn't need an owner and that isn't his home, and yet here he is bounding happily to little Jamie.
Cara-Marie Askew ya know to me it's his mom's reaction it's just a gasp and no one tells Peter even though they see him first for some reason that's what sets it so perfectly for the waterworks

Sandra Griffiths I actually use to want a dog like Chance and still do to this day. It's because of this movie that I always ended up adopting my pets while I never ended up with an American Bulldog or a cat like Sassy I still have great pets. Just something about this movie that makes you want to adopt a pet.
I had a dog named shadow. She was a cocker spaniel. My 2 favorite memories of her are whenever we go to the farm I say these words "shadow we're going to the farm wanna go?" And she just comes out of the front door and into the truck. 2nd memory was whenever the mail carrier comes to deliver our mail she runs out of the house chase the mail carrier especially the male ones 🤣. Those are my favorite memories of shadow.
as soon as he appeared over that hill I cried. Shadow fought the hardest out of all the animals to return to his boy and refused to give up, even when he looked death in the eye time and time again. nobody deserved this more than Shadow did
Shadow makes you think about older dogs and how powerfully there love can be and even if they are old and grey they will always will act young and happy.
My Uncle had a dog like that someone hurt him when he was away and he was very old look like someone hit his leg with a object nothing they could do for him... He was so old my elderly uncle had to help him get to his food bowl. That vet had a hard time trying to put him to sleep it took almost more then five doses before it took affect. The nurse and vet were almost in tears cause of how much that old dog fought for his life just because he didn't want to leave my uncle by himself. My uncle died near the end of that year from a massive stroke. Scenes like this really hit me on a emotional scale cause of that
Very true. I do love that they had the best dog actor for this scene since all of Shadow's actors were not even 2 at the time and crew had an issue with the dogs trying to eat the make up that made Shadow look old.
Stephen Wright morning my # 1 homeward bound partner / bro ! Stephen uh can u add me on messenger pretty please cuz i have a question bout 1 of the scenes from the movie or what ?
I saw this movie when I was 3 years old and instantly knew that I wanted a "Shadow Dog". My mom promised me that if I was good/behaved that I could get a "Shadow Dog" when I turned 10 (Golden Retriever on my Golden Birthday). I spent most of my childhood planning for my Golden Retriever 'Shadow', but my mom made it seem like she wasn't going to be able to get him for me as I got older. However, after school on my 10th birthday, she surprised me and had me pose for a picture while her friend plopped my baby Shadow into my arms. Getting to grow up with Shadow was the biggest blessing ever-- he was my best friend and taught me so much about empathy and love. He was always there for me whenever I was having a rough day. I always hated having to leave him when I moved to NYC for college, but I looked forward to being able to see him during breaks. Yesterday while I was at work, I got a FaceTime from my mom at the vet. Shadow was getting too old and was suffering too much, and putting him down was clearly what was right for him. I got to say goodbye to him and watch him fall asleep for the last time. I miss him so much already. I wouldn't be where I am in life right now if it were not for receiving the greatest gifts eleven and a half years ago. RIP Shadow
Musical score after Shadow says ”I worried about you so” (and when he and Peter start running towards each other) - THAT’s what brings tears to my eyes.
I've seen this movie countless times and even though I know exactly what's going to happen I always end up crying no matter how much I try to hold back.
This movie played a huge role in my childhood. This movie inspires children to love and respect animals. It's probably just me not being a child at this point in time (I'm 25) but I feel that the entertainment industry copy and pastes children's movies and shows, putting very little effort into them.
Peter: the one person Shadow would climb out of any hole. Chance must have realized that and asked "What about Peter?" Cause who can forgot how sad Peter was to leave him at the farm.
This was the first film I ever remembered crying in. When Shadow came limping over that hill I was literally bawling my eyes out and jumping up and down with excitement. Granted I was 8 back then but I still tear up a little even now.
I recall shadow had been injured right before, and even the other animals (and us, the audience watching) thought Shadow wouldn't make it home. So when he comes over the hill with the music swelling it's the most emotional moment you'll ever experience!
"He was old. It was too far. He was too old." Shadow: Hold my bone, bitches. Me: I've never been so happy to see a living thing returned home safe in my life.
Just hearing Don Ameche saying that one line gets me teared up, "Peter." This was second to his last film and hearing his voice one last time really touches the heart.
Voices of Michael J. Fox , Sally Field and Don Amechi were perfect. Don Amechi's voice as Shadow exudes so much wisdom and love. Great movie. I saw the original Disney movie "The Incredible Journey" along with "Old Yeller" as a double feature back in the 60's with my dad. A cherished memory.
When Chance blasts into view I always choke. Then during Sassy's rather understated arrival and the jokes about not being able to breathe I am able to re-compose myself. Then Peter says Shadow was too old and I'm still okay. Then he comes into view and the mom sort of gasps and that's it, I'm gone. Knowing what comes next I am just gone.
*Chance coming over the hill:* I'm so happy, eyes are starting to burn! *Sassy cute meows and runs over the hill:* Oh, god my heart. My eyes are all blurry I CAN'T SEE *Shadow limping over the hill:* bawls
There's something about when Shadow comes limping up the hill & says "Peter" that it's impossible not to cry. You can hear the relief in his voice to finally see his boy (safe) & it was worth the long journey
I think Michael j fox did an amazing voice over in this scene I saw this movie when I was 5 I'm 19 today and in the marine core and I still nearly cry when I see this

Part 2 especially, when he had to play 3 characters Marty, Marty Jr and Marlene.
@i'm only here for the beer Sure is!!! To this day shows and movies and people pay homage to it. I was just watched an episode of 13 Reasons Why and in one of the scenes Ani sees a DeLorean in Bryce's grandfather's garage and she says "I'm sending you back to the future!" I had to back up just to hear her say that again.
@i'm only here for the beer No, I haven't seen that movie, but that sounds awesome! When you said about Doc saying the DeLorean is a science experiment, it reminds me of the scene from part III when the conductor of the train says "Is this a hold up?" and Doc says "No! It's a science experiment!"
I remember when I saw this in theaters as a kid, I cried all the way back to the car. They could not have found a better dog to play Shadow, and after reading about Ben aka Shadow's antics after the movie, makes me love him even more. This line: "It was Shadow's victory really. His belief is what got us through, and in that moment I saw the years lift from him. He was a puppy again, reunited with his best friend." Melts my heart.
I used to watch this movie with my dog Mac when I was a kid. He seemed to really like this movie he would always stare at the TV watching it hearing the dogs bark. I miss Mac a lot. We had to put him down in 2006 before my senior year. So whenever I see this movie especially this part with shadow I cry like a little baby.
That's the exact thing that my dog kaya did as well! One time we took her and my other dog roxy to camping right on a beach, and they both went swimming and yeah, but before we were about to start a campfire, she was just lying on the ground. She puked a little bit so we thought she swallowed too much water, and she was like that the whole night. Even roxy was staying by her, making sure she's ok. But then, one time when my mom got up to go get a drink in the middle of the night, kaya was dead on the floor, with roxy beside her whimpering and her head bowed down. She was only 4 years old and roxy was only 3 at the time.... After that, Roxy was not her normal self. She used to always just sit by the staircase, staring at the picture of kaya. When she finally got over it, she was playing, and barking, a normal dog. But she still sat by the staircase sometimes, not remembering why. She is now almost 9 years old and is being better
Jewaun Glenn I am so sorry for your loss. I too had great memories watching this with my mother- thank god she is still alive- so I can only imagine what you're going through.
Okay, it's been a few years, this'll be fine! *Starts Video* Okay, just normal. *Chance comes back* Oh god... It's so adorable! Okay, don't cry, don't cry. *Sassy walks in* COMPOSE MYSELF! *Peter thinks Shadow is dead* Poor Peter... Aww... *Shadow comes back* I failed the test...
Oh God, here comes the tears, I use to watch this movie with my dog Tommy, a half lab half German Shepard, shadow reminds me of him when he was old, it’s hard to remember something, but I'm glad I have the memories of him for the rest of my life
Reminds me of my Sam. Died at 14, was forced to put him down, but one of the best memories I have of him was the day I had him put to sleep because of the pain he was in, was getting to take him to the park for one last time. Before that dreaded appointment, we walked around, sat in the grass together, and watched the ducks and other people stroll by.
As someone who just lost a golden retriever of 16 years, this scene gets to me. Such a beautiful and bittersweet scene. Really shows the love between a man and his dog.
I bought these two movies on DVD the other day and just watched them. I never cried when I watched these as a little kid but I did today when Shadow came over the hill.
When Shadow comes limping over the hill.....I broke. That music, the little boys reaction. How can you not cry or at least want to? Wonderful, classic movie.
Hope: Oh Sassy, I’m never gonna let you go, never, never, never! Sassy: Um, Sweetheart, Sassy can’t breathe… I die laughing every time I hear that line!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I had recently lost my 14 year old German shepherd/collie mix shortly before my 37th birthday. He was always happy when I came home from work. When I had this movie on DVD, I always thought he would react the same Shadow did. Though I have a new puppy keeping me company now, I miss my boy.
I loved it when Chance came over the hill, I started to cry at that moment. By the time Sassy and Shadow came over the hill, well let’s say Kleenex made a great profit on me that day. I never had a movie do that to me. I’ve cried, but this one really made me to really bawl. I’m 63 and I’ll still watch it every once in awhile. Get ready to start up crying again.
I must have seen this film at least 20times, so I know shadow comes back in the end but I'm still a blubbering mess when it looks like hes not made it.
If you don't cry when Shadow comes over the hill, even though he's limping, then you have no soul.
i alwasy do
So basically I don't have a soul, even though I need one to live, so if I am dead how am I typing this?

@i'm only here for the beer I'm pretty sure as well.
"sweetheart sassy can't breathe" that line always makes me laugh 🤣🤣🤣
I created a new ocean with my tears while watching this.
Nice ima swim in it
I remember when I saw this in theaters as a kid, I cried all the way back to the car.
So whenever I see this movie especially this part with shadow I cry like a little baby.
rip mac
I'm sorry for your loss. But your profile pic is pretty!
Awww thank you. I love Cherry Blossoms they are soooo pretty. ^_^
achapril I know! X3 (R.I.P Mac)
One of my favorite happy endings! Chance, Sassy, and Shadow all showed up back home! I love it very much!
yeah i cried sorry just recently lost my mother and this movie reminded me of great time when i was younger...... Thank God for this movie
Jewaun Glenn I am so sorry for your loss. I too had great memories watching this with my mother- thank god she is still alive- so I can only imagine what you're going through.
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this I still cry every time.
Okay, it's been a few years, this'll be fine!
*Starts Video*
Okay, just normal.
*Chance comes back*
Oh god... It's so adorable! Okay, don't cry, don't cry.
*Sassy walks in*
COMPOSE MYSELF!
*Peter thinks Shadow is dead*
Poor Peter... Aww...
*Shadow comes back*
I failed the test...
Been watching this movie since I was 3! Now 30 years later it still gets me!
I tried to be the cool kid who didn't cry, but this movie, god damn, there is not enough cool in the world.
All these years later, still tear up as soon as he pops up over the hill
When you truly love someone, you will always find your way back to them because home is where the heart is.
I loved this movie as a kid, this part always made me tear up. Great movie ❤️
"...Peter."
*Tears up and starts to sob uncontrollably*
That's the guy from Airplane.
What a pisser.
He has a drinking problem.
Anyway, I hope this hasn't been boring for you...
Shirley you don't believe that to be true?
durpinator looks like you picked the wrong week to memorize movie actors
I have 2 golden retrievers so I can’t help but sob. In scenes like this I find myself grabbing onto them and telling them I love them.
When Shadow comes limping over the hill.....I broke. That music, the little boys reaction. How can you not cry or at least want to? Wonderful, classic movie.
2:25 OH NO WHO'S CUTTING ONIONS IN MY ROOM?
Penny sorry
Hope: Oh Sassy, I’m never gonna let you go, never, never, never!
Sassy: Um, Sweetheart, Sassy can’t breathe…
I die laughing every time I hear that line!!!
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
This is an unbeatable test. This killed my feelings when I was 7...
This movie is PERFFECTION! I completely adore Shadow .. golden retrievers are soooo not from this world 💜
Not gonna cry this time. Nope, nuh-uh, not gonna do it. (chokes up a second in) GODDAMMMIT! (cue the ocular gushers) 😭
i don't cry very often... but this... this just pulls at them stings like nothing else!

Hope: Oh, Sassy I'll never let you go again. Never, never. (squeezes Sassy)
Sassy: Oh! Sweetheart, Sassy can't breath.
I am a teacher and I almost cried in a classroom full of 6 year olds when Shadow came back!
I love this movie. I can watch this a million times over & never get bored & cry my heart out with the happy endings
My eyes are fucking waterfalls
I had recently lost my 14 year old German shepherd/collie mix shortly before my 37th birthday. He was always happy when I came home from work. When I had this movie on DVD, I always thought he would react the same Shadow did. Though I have a new puppy keeping me company now, I miss my boy.
No matter how old I get, this ending always gets me
Watching this when you were 6 or 7 not crying just happy there back
Watching it at 33 crying my eyes out
32 years old and I saw this movie a dozen times as a kid. Still freaking tearing up.
If 3:00 were the actual rest of the ending, this would have been considered an avant garde arthouse masterpiece.
This is what actors and actresses think of when they have to cry for a scene.
I must have seen this film at least 20times, so I know shadow comes back in the end but I'm still a blubbering mess when it looks like hes not made it.
Is it me or am I a grown adult crying my eyes out so hysterically I’m like Matt Damon in goodwill hunting ?
Every time I watch this scene it never fails to make me cry and I'm 24 years old haha
This ending scene of Homeward Bound of Sassy, Chance, and Shadow running home to their owners and kids always makes me cry!! SO EMOTIONAL!!!
No tears is impossible!
I legit haven’t seen this in years and still ended up crying again when I saw this 😭
when chance ran over that hill I smiled, when sassy cam over, the tears started, the shadow came and a waterfall fell from my eyes
I'm not crying...you are! 😭😭😭
I love the sound of trumpets when Shadows crests the hill. They sound warm and triumphant.
