Stills did sing this for Judy to convince her to give the relationship one more chance. She answered "That's a very beautiful song Stephen, but we're not getting back together".
Yes, the last part is in spanish: ¡Qué linda, me recuerda a Cuba! La reina de la mar Caribe, Quiero solo visitarla allí y qué triste que no puedo ¡vaya! "How pretty, she reminds me of Cuba, the queen of the Caribbean sea. I only wish to visit her there and how sad that I can't, oh well!"
Dominica, you nailed it. This was Stephen Stills tribute to Judy Collins another famous musician/singer after their breakup, basically asking her for forgiveness and to try again. Later, she essentially said no.
Not a 'tribute' - he wrote it for her to try to win her back, played it to her for the first time on her birthday and when she said no, gave her the guitar (a 1929 Martin he'd had restored for her) and left.
CSN and later CSNY were a part of American culture. Their sound helped define rock music in the 70's. Their harmonies and musicianship were amazing. SO many fantastic songs. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
About Stephen Stills' on again off again relationship with popular folk singer, Judy Collins who is "Judy Blue Eyes". Suite is a play on sweet, and also describes the song composition, which is literally a musical suite, disparate styles coming together to make a cohesive composition. Stills is a great songwriter, singer and guitarist, and Collins possesses a rich, ethereal voice. As suggested below, her version of Amazing Grace with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is immaculate, and you two beautiful people would love it.
Love Dominika's frustration trying to explain the broken peacefulness of nature to Andrei. lol Great band with many more songs to explore. Canada wishing you both a wonderful day.
Yep, I get it. Day is ending, the birds get more vocal before going quiet, crickets start sounding from some where, frogs start croaking, then in the quiet, you even hear the trees rustling... yep, I get it. 😁
Judy Collins is a very successful folk and pop artist with a very long career. I read part of an interview with her, probably on Wikipedia, where she talks about Stephen Stills in general and this song in particular. Apparently, she is the one who broke off the relationship, though reluctantly. They remained close friends afterward and are still friends today. Here is what she said about this song: She said that shortly after they broke up, she was visiting Los Angeles from wherever she lived and staying in a hotel. Stills lived in L.A. and she had told him she would be there. Stills had been wanting to get back together. He called her at the hotel and told her he had written a song he wanted her to hear. It had not been released yet, and he wanted her reaction to it. She had him come to her hotel room, and he showed up with his acoustic guitar. She said after they chatted a while, he said he wanted her to hear a new song he had written, and she agreed. She said he sat on the edge of the bed and played the entire song Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. She was the first person in the world to hear it apart from the guys in the band. I can't remember if it had been recorded yet. She said she was amazed by the song. She said she told him it was incredible, that she loved the song, but she also told him they were not getting back together.
Such beautiful harmonies from these guys. I never get tired of listening to their wonderful blended voices. Great choice! I also love frogs! I know what you mean about the sounds of nature. You two were obviously made for each other. 🥰🌺✌️
Great reaction once again. You guys are made for each other. We all can see the love and affection you have for each other and I for one can appreciate your honest reactions. Just wanted to make a shout out to the cool shirts you both are rocking. Love the channel... Love your content. You both have that special magic... Big fan.
Judy Collins has a huge amount of music for you to explore. She has a beautiful voice and you can't make a bad choice. One of my favorites is Farewell To Taiwarthe (not sure of the spelling), which is a song that includes the songs of humpback whales.
Glad you enjoyed the song. Seems like it took a toll in you. Suite refers to the multiple time changes + motifs. So the music takes you to different places . I love the final part w the hand beats, bongos or something similar and the fade out in which Stills sings the Spanish song while Crosby + Nash harmonize. This is the first song on the album and was played on AM radio, even tho it was teice the length of standard pop tunes. Groundbreaking classic.
Judy Collins is a living legend. She’s one of the premiere folk singers of the last 7 decades!!! So the verse, “Chestnut brown canary Ruby throated sparrow Sing a song, don't be long, thrill me to the marrow” was Stills telling her that he loved her talent and her voice.
This is one of my top 10 fave songs of all time, very meaningful back in the day and has stood the test of time. Music composition note: a "suite" is a three-part piece, so this song has three distinct parts. Great heart felt reaction commentary and analysis as always. You guys are becoming my fave channel song by song.
Love the sound of CS&N They were one of the folk rock supergroups of the 60's-70's. I had the album this song "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" is on. It is full of great songs such as "Helplessly Hoping", "Marrakesh Express", "Wooden Ships", "Guinnevere", "Lady Of The Island" etc. Another great album is "Deja Vu" where Neil Young joined them. It has other hit songs such as "Teach Your Children", "Woodstock", "Carry On" & "Our House".
Yes ... this song just keeps on giving. I was in my early twenties when it came out, and I have been transported every single time I hear it to this day. To me the story behind the song is secondary to the pure musicality. Wow!
Great initial reaction! Once your get past the painful but ultimately hopeful lyics, the voices and melody are unsurpassed and this is the greatest single rock song of the last 50 years! You two are wonderful but listen to this often. I have countless times and it never fails to deliver greatness! Peace you two. You are great.
Thank you guys.... I grew up with the song.... it was actually THE pivotal song at Woodstock... PS... Stephen Stills didn't get the girl (Judy Collins) back after singing this song... I think it was more like Stephen telling her "look at what you missed out on"... he then made his whole successful career after this one song...and this one band... #AmericanClassic
My goodness!!! Y'all are getting into some of my childhood favorites. Memories of falling asleep across my mother's bed listening to the clock radio 📻. Such beautiful music, such lovely memories!!! Thank you!!! You have never really loved if you don't get this jam. Imagine loosing your beautiful wife. You'd been feelin' it then...
This song (3 really) is iconic CSN. I love Dominika's analogy, watching a beautiful sunset, as the various sounds of nature lend their unexpected voices. I never thought of it that way, but I can't count the number of times I've listened to this song since the CSN album was released (we have 3 copies - 1 each brought into marriage and a 3rd from some forgotten source), but this song will never grow old.
I was in grade school when this first came out on album, and then it was performed live at Woodstock. I learned to sing harmony by singing along with all of the CSN&Y songs. They were geniuses of harmony and guitar like no other.
I LOVE YOU, DOMINIKA!!! I think you may be my TWIN!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I GOT YOU, though....the crickets chirping...the frogs croaking...the birds chirping...the cicadas buzzing....and, they all come in, one at a time: almost as a symphony!! Then, little by little, they "fall away"...and, it's dark....that's one reason why this song is called "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"! In music, a suite is an ordered set of instrumental or orchestral/concert band pieces: literally!! AND: just like a hubby - Andrei PULLING YOUR LEG....Ya'll CRACK ME UP!! :) THANKS for reacting to this one!! HUGS!!! ❤❤❤❤❤😆😆😆😆😆
In the late 60's, CSN&Y (Neil Young as the final piece of the puzzle) became the #1 group in the world during the Woodstock era...they released "Deja' Vu" in March of 1970 as their 2d album...it went to #1 and will blow your mind with its diversity...each member of the band contributed songs to the album and pick anyone of them and you will be thoroughly amazed..."Teach your Children", "Almost Cut MY Hair", the title track and Neil Young's "Helpless" make up a number of the incredible songs on that album...CSN released a self-titled album in the late 70's that is also incredible...finally, CSNY released two live albums "Four-Way Street" and "CNSY 1974" which i think is from a show in San Francisco where they played many of these classics along with songs from their respective solo careers...As I recall, both bands are in the Rock and Roll HOF and each member, individually, as well...just incredible musicians, writers, etc. - if you start down this path you will not be disappointed
Beautiful song in its unpredictable arraignment, anchored by their melodic harmonies. After several listenings I’ve decided the song is an interpretation of the transitional moment in a relationship that cannot go back to its past and must somehow move forward toward an uncertain future. The song writer understands this but wants to “sing” of the joys of his love while trying to imagine how that love can continue in the face of imperfection. How does one find fulfillment in a relationship when it’s apparent that to make the other happy you must let them go, to be the free spirit that attracted you to them in the first place ❤😢
A Suite is classical music that is performed in three parts. This was on Crosby Stills and Nash's first album from 1969, and the entire album is a masterpiece. The Judy that Stephen Stills was breaking up with and this song was written about is Grammy award winning artist Judy Collins. You should really react to Judy Collins' song "Send In The Clowns" or her version of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now." Judy Collins has a beautiful, strong voice and started her career during the early 60s folk music era but is still touring today and still sounds just as good as she always has. You two are by far the best music reactors on RUclips and I can't wait for you to release your daily reactions although due to my age and poor health I am not always able to see them or see them when they post. I love your honest, sincere reactions and the way that the truly good music touches both of your souls and hearts. Never apologize or feel embarrassed for showing emotions when hearing music that stirs you that deeply. That is just a part of the honesty that I love about you both. God bless you both.
CSN (David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash) were all a part of the incredibly rich music scene in the late 60’s and early 70’s in LA which centered in Laurel Canyon. All these young singer-songwriters, who were friends and shared their music with one another…….for a brief time it was like a mini-Renaissance: so much talent and energy in one place at one time. These three discovered their amazing blend while hanging out at another artist’s house one afternoon (Mama Cass of The Mamas and the Papas). Serendipity, yes? Or Fate? Whatever you believe, it was amazing. Judy Collins, whom this song is about, was also a part of this group, as was Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and many others.
OMG we love you guys so much! You two are definitely my favorites!!! Your English is better than you think it is and you guys are pretty much always spot on with your reactions and analysis!!! To be honest, we've heard these songs so many times we probably take them for granted. This is one of my favorite songs by them... I've heard it a million times... I even sing along to it it... but I never really took the time to dissect what it's REALLY about... so thank you for your wonderful reactions and I hope you do more from these guys because their harmonies are arguably the best ever!!! ❤
CSN was a supergroup of guys who had already been in successful bands. This album was the soundtrack for my summer of 1969…in college in Colorado. Great memories. These guys were hugely popular…..their songs were all over FM radio. Their next album, Deja Vu, where Neil Young joined, was also amazing.
Dominica, I spent some summer nights in the mountains of Tennessee near Smokey Mountains National Park. As darkness set in the sounds of the night were incredible as the various nocturnal creatures sounded off. So I get what you are saying.
This is my favorite song of their’s! Outstanding! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 If don’t love after a breakup, it wasn’t love, it was infatuation! That’s why people love the blues, sweet shared pain!
Most of the “box clicking you heard” was tapping on the acoustic guitar. Saw Steven Stills in a big collage auditorium and he stopped the concert when he was playing the acoustic guitar, you could hear a pin drop, then he jammed for 15 minutes straight. Great to see him alone and with cs&n. And Cns&y. All great memories.
I know exactly what you're talking about, Dominika..Outside of my apartment the squirrels and birds go nuts at just around 5pm, so you're not crazy...Then again, that's coming from me, who some call crazy!
1969 Cosby,Stills&Nash Another one of my record club albums, it was the summer of Woodstock, wish I could say I was there what an experience it was, I was too young my 1st year of High School😊Peace &Love Gary❤
Translation: "How beautiful Cuba brings it to me The Queen of the Caribbean Sea Sky sun ain't got no blood there And how sad that I can't go oh go, oh goes"
The harmonies help soften the sadness of the lyrics for me. The breakup between Judy Collins,a very celebrated folk singer, and Stephen Stills, was in the end a friendly affair.
I like the one where she is on a show with Graham Nash, and they start talking about the old times. All of a sudden Graham calls Stephen onstage, Judy doesn't know, and they all sing Someday Soon.
If you want to see sweet Judy, the subject of this song perform at her best, check out her performance on the Smothers Brothers Show where she sings "Someday Soon".
The song is about Judy Collins, also a singer performer. They were in a relationship and Steven Stills wrote this song about how he wanted to pursue her.. anyway they never really got it off the ground.
A good comment about a healthy breakup. You could still love the person. Stills really wrote this to get Judy back but she said, while it was a lovely song, she was in no way coming back! Great song.
I don’t know if you remember but you did a reaction to On An Island by David Gilmour and about the two backup singers you said “I don’t know who they are”. Well you just heard them. Love you guys. Keep it up.
Loved your reaction to this masterpiece. If you have not reacted to it, I encourage you to listen to the song Helplessly Hoping. A guitar and three beautiful voices. Enjoy.
Such Passion Dominica ~ For truly great music ~ I love it! ~ They may say it was for Judy Collins, but it was for his true love Joni Mitchell...who wrote The River about it. Check it out!
"Helplessly Hoping" , "4 + 20", "Haven't We Lost Enough" and "Southern Cross" are other great Steve Stills penned tunes from CSN and sometimes Y, to check out.
More proof that the late 60s and the 70s was the best era of music ever… without a doubt!
By light years!
I just love you guys. You are such a sweet, beautiful couple. God bless!
It should be noted that Stephan and Judy have remained close friends to this day and even did a concert tour together a few years ago.
Stills did sing this for Judy to convince her to give the relationship one more chance. She answered "That's a very beautiful song Stephen, but we're not getting back together".
This is exactly what I have read, as well.
Yes, the last part is in spanish:
¡Qué linda, me recuerda a Cuba!
La reina de la mar Caribe,
Quiero solo visitarla allí
y qué triste que no puedo ¡vaya!
"How pretty, she reminds me of Cuba,
the queen of the Caribbean sea.
I only wish to visit her there
and how sad that I can't, oh well!"
Steve wrote three songs for Judy, but he couldn't decide which one was the best. The result was he combined all three!
You two are the cutest couple of music reactions. You always make me smile and sometimes even laugh out loud. Thank you.
Yes, it keeps on giving. This was hugely popular back in the day. The unigue harmony and changing styles within the piece grabbed everyone.
The harmonies are so good I've never paid attention to the instrumentation, but the bass line is masterful. According to Wikipedia, it's Stills.
@@roseblake5803 A very talented man!
CSN and later CSNY were a part of American culture. Their sound helped define rock music in the 70's. Their harmonies and musicianship were amazing. SO many fantastic songs. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
They were also part of musical culture in the UK. The Hollies tour of the USA was the catalyst for them getting together.
@@toniyoung5131 Have you seen any of the Laurel Canyon documentaries? What a great time for music!
The absolute champs of multi- harmony. The voices blend in the most magical way. Ty for reaction!
You two are a pleasure to watch

I always loved how the song ends on such an upbeat note.. like not all breakups need to be ugly.
Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song.
Love Dominika's frustration trying to explain the broken peacefulness of nature to Andrei. lol Great band with many more songs to explore. Canada wishing you both a wonderful day.
I was touched (and thrilled) by your interaction. Better than any damn movie. And, yes, it's a great song, one indeed of the finest. Robert uk
Yep, I get it. Day is ending, the birds get more vocal before going quiet, crickets start sounding from some where, frogs start croaking, then in the quiet, you even hear the trees rustling... yep, I get it. 😁
This is one of the happiest sad songs ever.😀
This album was so great upon release; it had a level of harmonization snd musical sophistication that was unique.
My wife and I sing this in the car to our kids and now our grandkids. Judy Collins was a great singer. And she had beautiful blue eyes.

A great song, however you should give a listen to Judy Collins singing ‘Amazing Grace’ she really does have the voice of an Angel!
FTM. Judy Collins is referenced at the end with, "how can you catch the Sparrow"?
Judy Collins is a living legend. She’s one of the premiere folk singers of the last 7 decades!!! So the verse,
“Chestnut brown canary
Ruby throated sparrow

I like this metaphor a lot. Yes, this song has the mutability, rhythm, and surprise of an evening observing nature.
Those harmonies 😮 I forget I like this group. Have a good day 😊 xx

1969 Cosby,Stills&Nash Another one of my record club albums, it was the summer of Woodstock, wish I could say I was there what an experience it was, I was too young my 1st year of High School😊Peace &Love Gary❤
I get what your saying!! 🙂
I knew one of you would flip out at the end.
Stephen and Judy remained friends even have toured together.
Translation:
"How beautiful Cuba brings it to me
The Queen of the Caribbean Sea
Sky sun ain't got no blood there
And how sad that I can't go oh go, oh goes"
You didn't mention what it is that you are translating; I assume it is the Spanish part at the end.
The harmonies help soften the sadness of the lyrics for me. The breakup between Judy Collins,a very celebrated folk singer, and Stephen Stills, was in the end a friendly affair.
Check out Judy Collins big hit "Someday Soon" live on The Smothers Brothers Show.
Keep it up.
I get it, the evening song.😎😎😎😎
You guys are on a stretch of some of my favorite songs! I wish you'd listened to "Hello it's Me" studio version but yeah, great tunes!
You must now listen to the wonderful Judy Collins.
