It would make you proud, cool. Can I ask is he still with the Cate Bros.? If yes tell them to put some videos of their sets. Lot of fans out there. We need good soul music!
My grandpa on my mom's side knew Levon for a brief time. Apparently they both worked at Tyson in Springdale, AR for a time and Levon would play his tapes for him during lunch breaks.
Anyone else getting traces of Jerry Reed in this performance? I'm living long enough to say goodbye to too many of my musical heroes, but thankfully I got to enjoy them while they were here, and thanks to RUclips I'm still finding gems like this. Thanks to whoever put it up!
Wow, what an archive video. Not too many of these jewels around especially with double drumming with Levon and nephew Terry Cagle. Earl and Ernie Cate are legends with Ron Eoff on bass.
🤔.. funny story grew up in a small town..many years ago..Rick Danko & Levon came by my house..as they headed for the e-way my stepfather's friends in blue pulled them over..saying " they looked lost"..I was almost 18 but looked much older.
Got to see Levon with the Cate Brothers in Woodstock NY several times in the 80's at the Joyous Lake.It was great seeing them in a small club.I was standing right next to Levon all night.
The cate brothers and I share the same birthday (12/26, but years apart), and there will be an 80th party at george’s in Fayetteville on December 23, 2022. Hope to go, but it’s probably sold out. They are legendary. Levon came into a local bar I sang in years ago and he took over the drums! Oh happy day.
Gotta love this American music, this tune really swings! All those British invasion bands in the 60's ripping off our music. Nothing like the original stuff.
I was on my way from Daulton, headed for Atlanta Thinking about that girl I left behind When a voice so soft and tender floated down to me from the window Would you like a taste of my sweet peach Georgia wine? Well she showed me to the backdoor and she told me what it was for Said you can come back and see me any old time And just as I was going that old sheriff must have gone in Said boy you've been in my sweet peach Georgia wine Chorus: Now hows I supposed to know she was the sheriff's daughter She was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older Well i guess I've learned my lesson son You know I'm doing my 10 to 21 Just for tasting that sweet peach Georgia wine Now hows I supposed to know she was the sheriff's daughter She was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older Well i guess I've learned my lesson son You know I'm doing my 10 to 21 Just for tasting that sweet peach Georgia wine If I ever get out of this jail house, I ain't gonna slowdown Till I reach that Georgia boarder line Well maybe one quick stop down in Macon Cause i hate to leave these parts and not take it One more sip of sweet peach Georgia wine Now hows I supposed to know she was the sheriff's daughter She was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older Well I guess I've learned my lesson son You know I'm doing my 10 to 21 Just for tasting that sweet peach Georgia wine
RIP Levon, thanks for all the joy your music has brought to me and the world. also RIP Bert Weedon, guitar supremo.1975, a great year in my music education.Northern Lights-Southern Cross- The Band. and The Cate Brothers, first album.
I love Levon. Last time i cried was the evening that I read Levon Helm passed away. I knew he's been battling cancer for some time now, but I guess I never thought ol Levon would die. I guess I thought he was invincible. Im glad he got a couple of years to play music and be with friends and family before he passed. Even though he died I believe he won the battle. When he got throat cancer that didnt even almost stop Levon from singing his heart out every day. Although I never met him, I love him
Dwain Kitchel Just recently found a ZATBF FIRST Album in near mint condition. I would have thought those were eaten at some late party at the Swinging Door. But i got vinyl of them and it sure sounds nice.
Yes, it's Levy. From what I remember of this episode, he sort of tries to get an interview with Levon all night with similar results. (The whole show was constructed around this fictitious, really low-rent TV network).
It’s Eugene Levy, Canadian / world comedic icon. He is the best of the best. Given The Band’s Canadian roots, it’s probably from a show up there after the original band split.
@Anisozygoptera I see where you got that - but there's a long tradition in blues of the "back door man" - a guy who is for whatever reason not supposed to be there (usually messing with another man's wife). Also, in GA the age of consent is 16, so he wasn't sent up for statutory. "Fornication" was illegal in GA regardless, so maybe that's it. The sense I get from the lyric, though, is that the sheriff was mad enough to find any pretext to get him thrown in jail.
My dad is Ron Eoff on bass. I love watching this video. It makes me smile.
It would make you proud, cool. Can I ask is he still with the Cate Bros.? If yes tell them to put some videos of their sets. Lot of fans out there. We need good soul music!
Your dad was badass.
tell your dad he is cool as fuck
It did me too❣
That’s Ron “The Pocket” Eoff to us mortals!
Every person trying to learn music has to see this clip a hundred times.
That's rock n roll at its best. Relentless drums and bass, smooth exciting guitar solo and tasteful keyboards. It don't get better than this.
RIP Terry Cagle. This is a great tune to see Levon and Terry playing together.
Levon and my Mom are buried near each other in Woodstock. Always see them both.
EUGENE FREAKING LEVY!!!! oh,and LEVON IS THE MAN!!!
Yes. SCTV. From when they had an hour long show on NBC in the 80's.
My grandpa on my mom's side knew Levon for a brief time. Apparently they both worked at Tyson in Springdale, AR for a time and Levon would play his tapes for him during lunch breaks.

I’ve been binge watching all of the Jerry Reed I can find... “yea, son”. He’s a lot like Jerry with his mannerisms... both legends in my mind...
As a Fayetteville native, this just gives me chills. This sound from these guys is the soundtrack of my life.
Levon Helm & The Cate Brothers are gods here in NW Arkansas!
As they should be. So great, cheers.
the tele that earl is playing was my dads.. he sold it to him in 79 when they played together at the library club in fayettville
Another gone too soon. RIP Terry and thanks for the music.
Wow I find it hard to believe I heard this just before he died. Thank you Levon Helm for some of the best country songs
Ron's bass is just so good..driving the whole damn thing with Levon and Terry's drumming..and the Bros cate..oh yeah how its done son!
How great is it that we can watch these guys so many memories
Wow, what an archive video. Not too many of these jewels around especially with double drumming with Levon and nephew Terry Cagle. Earl and Ernie Cate are legends with Ron Eoff on bass.
SCTV was a great show back then. Think it came on right after Saturday Night Live back in those days. Great to see the Cate Bros on here.
🤔.. funny story grew up in a small town..many years ago..Rick Danko & Levon came by my house..as they headed for the e-way my stepfather's friends in blue pulled them over..saying " they looked lost"..I was almost 18 but looked much older.
What a tune !
One more reason SCTV was a great show. Cate Brothers are great
I got to sit in with the Cate Bros. on bass a few times and opened a show for Levon in Tulsa. All were great musicians and great guys!
Since nobody else has said it, I guess I will. Levon looks damn fine with dark brown hair!
We were so much older then/we're younger than that now...
Oh my god! I just discovered this song by watching THIS VERY EPISODE of SCTV on DVD. I had no idea about this, and went looking online. Yay RUclips!
Rest in peace, Levon...thanks for all the great music & thanks for posting, Tyler!
I know, its only rock & roll....But I Like It!
Man, I miss Levon!
Levon & the boys: rockin' my soggy Saturday.
Got to see Levon with the Cate Brothers in Woodstock NY several times in the 80's at the Joyous Lake.It was great seeing them in a small club.I was standing right next to Levon all night.
We all miss you, Levon!

Levon is like the musician god!
Gotta love it!! An American original. Nobody like Levon!
I was on my way from Daulton, headed for Atlanta
Thinking about that girl I left behind
When a voice so soft and tender floated down to me from the window
Would you like a taste of my sweet peach Georgia wine?
Well she showed me to the backdoor and she told me what it was for
Said you can come back and see me any old time
And just as I was going that old sheriff must have gone in
Said boy you've been in my sweet peach Georgia wine
Chorus:
Now hows I supposed to know she was the sheriff's daughter
She was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older
Well i guess I've learned my lesson son
You know I'm doing my 10 to 21
Just for tasting that sweet peach Georgia wine
Now hows I supposed to know she was the sheriff's daughter
She was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older
Well i guess I've learned my lesson son
You know I'm doing my 10 to 21
Just for tasting that sweet peach Georgia wine
If I ever get out of this jail house, I ain't gonna slowdown
Till I reach that Georgia boarder line
Well maybe one quick stop down in Macon
Cause i hate to leave these parts and not take it
One more sip of sweet peach Georgia wine
Now hows I supposed to know she was the sheriff's daughter
She was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older
Well I guess I've learned my lesson son
You know I'm doing my 10 to 21
Just for tasting that sweet peach Georgia wine
