How to build a long range shooting system

- Long range shooters Ulf Lindroth and Thomas Haugland travel to the Arctic Circle to perform a serious field test combining the new Blaser R8 in 338 Lapua Magnum and the new Zeiss Victory V8 4,8-35x60. Focusing less on technical details and more on practical limits, they shoot the system in the fjords and mountains of northern Norway. Initially they trim the system to deliver accuracy in the field, and then using it for practical shooting. This is how it went.

Absolutely one of the most beautifully done gun videos on RUclips. Nice work!
This must be one of the nicest "shooting ranges" in the world.
Can't tell if I'm more impressed by the shooting or the cinematics of this..... Both are genuinely fantastic
What an exceptional spotter.
gunman is just a trigger puller the spotter is the real job in this sport
An exceptionally well edited and produced video. Certainly makes Mr Carr and Mr Stanton's efforts look very second rate !
Absolute pleasure to watch, thank-you gentleman.
I end up watching this once or twice a year. It's just such a satisfying video
I think about this video a lot. The beauty of the mountains and placing good rounds down range. That's the life. Keep it up guys!
Thanks
Two of my favorite channels coming together in one video, what a day!
That spotter is incredible!
From central plains USA, very informative video, I will view it over again to comprehend what you share. I have a similar quest for long range shooting but with a bit of antiquity. I now have four Russian made 7.62x54R Mosin Nagant rifles I've been working with for long range. Still work in progress to try for 500-1000 meters, but I am enjoying the challenge. I'll try to use from your video what I can to further my progress as a complement to US Marine sniper tactics I also rely on. I'm not a hunter or assassin, just enjoy striking long range targets for fun. Thank you all again, for the nice HD video with the native music and stunning scenery.
Excellent video, short and to the point in laymans terms. Beautifully choreographed well done.
One of the best quality video I've ever seen. Enjoyable. Informative and incredible to watch. Subscribed.
Bravo gents. Wonderful scenery, fantastic system, easy down to earth points of dope information. Very well done. Thank you.
Unreal Video, great landscape, fantastic shooting.
This is one of the Greatest gun shooting videos I've ever seen in one of the most beautiful places on earth
Amazing work ,beautiful terrain . True professional
Brilliant scenery and very good production! Congratulations!
When men have a passion like these guys, keeps me going in my passion , no idling in the mind but focus , guys thank you for your expertise to give me the will to see tomorrow to look forward life can be exciting plus constructive hats off
I love the video. Very well done. Makes me want to take a trip and shoot in some beautiful terrain.
Excellent video. I only got back from Norway a few days ago, what a beautiful place to shoot!
The scenery is absolutely stunning. I wish I had an area like this to practice long range shooting.
Awesome video. Top notch. This is the kind of excursion that I dream about.
this location is just breathtaking. nicely done video too, great job!
So beautifully spot on practical approach to long range shooting
beautifull terrain and an excellent spotter great at walking the shooter into target and giving corrections, not many like that
Very nice, gentlemen, thank you for sharing. And may I say, that is an absolutely beautiful rifle!
Just found this video, wonderful! Great info, videography and beautiful landscape. Oh and a really great looking dog too!
Thank you Sven and Bjorn. Beautiful and helpful video.
Is this the norm for Norwegians? The guns, optics, outerwear, video production, and skill level are excellent...
These guys are cool as! Best video I've see on RUclips.
Wow!!!! Great Cinema!!! Also, Wow-Thanks!!!! You solved for me a problem I was having in deciding to get a V8 4.8-35x60 ( I have the 1.8-14x50). The problem concerned the markings on the vertical turret. You have to multiply by 2 to get the number of mils!!!...You guys put tape on the turret and marked your own numbers... Perfect!!!! Bravo!!!!
To me, living in British Columbia, the biggest advantage of this v8 series, is having the bright daytime dot in the second focal plane. At the lowest mag setting, with both eyes open, you can for emergencies use the dot, to shoot moving targets e.g. Charging Grizzly Bears!!!! This is astonishing for high mag scopes!!! . My long range scopes, mostly S&B and Nightforce, have first focal plan illumination, and provided no opportunity for targeting close or moving targets.
By the way, with both eyes open, to get an accurate shot at close range, all you need to see is the red dot ... i.e. you don't need to actually see the full scope image. With high-power scopes the image would be relatively useless anyway, e.g. your Grizzly would be just brown fir, and big white teeth!!!! All Good! God's Love to Zeiss Hunting!!!!
Amazing video! And some utterly brilliant shooting!
Fantastic shooting, really good to watch . Must work on my shooting at distance !!
What a fantastic shooting "range" I love it. Keep it up.
Ohh I noticed 17 dislike on this well done video, guys what wrong with a man who shows you fun going out there way to show us great expertise , honestly get a life
Antonio Fiammelli I really sat here and wasted 15 minutes of my life for this video try to get some ideas on how to set up rifle for long range shooting for varying different conditions and environments not once did I get one bit information pertaining to the title of the video
@@michaelnapier566 they might not of came out and told you exactly what to do and what to buy but if you pay attention to the equipment they are using and what they are doing to get on target you can pull a little bit of knowledge from this video.
wow absolute brilliance guys. funnily enough I have just purchased a howa in 6.5 creedmoor with a GRS stock made in your beutiful country😊 again brilliantly put together video cheers👌
You should get Thomas and ULf's DVD. Very good looking forward to their second in the series.
Great video guys. Top notch editing and shooting !!! One gripe with the Zeiss scope you are using, it left you about 8mils of up elevation, either your receiver has a slight backwards cant compared to the bore or this scope has very little elevation to begin with.
Great video, understandable and informative!
Great video, and a beautiful gun.
Fantastic video. Thank you.
Fantastic video, greeting from Sweden!
hey guys love the video, I follow your vlog Thomas and love the info. Just got my Zeiss 2016 info packet (I'm a dealer) and notice you guys using the V8... with the new high-tech tape-n-sharpie BDC turret!
The best couple of shooters around👍
Excellent shooting with a crazy powerful round. Wish I had the terrain that required such a monstrosity!
Nice video! I hope to visit this part of the world someday.
all time favourite video on youtube
wow ! heard thomas for the first time , happy to c u here , greetings from pakistan.
Amazing video.
Whats (not) to like about this. This a beautiful video.
Great information for first time shooter
worth to watch in all aspect.
excellent video guys
nice set up and a better shooting 😉👍🏻 really god video
Fantastic video!
What a phenomenally well produced video. Even non gun folks will enjoy this...well done!
PCS 357 wrong been around Firearms a lot of my life this guy was just nothing but a waste of my time good for beginners only if that and maybe he should actually try and label the video correctly not once did I hear something about how to build a ride how to set it up to your conditions your environment particular setting going to be shooting in or predominantly hunting in
@@michaelnapier566 you may be a firearms expert like you claim, but you write like a grade 4 child (probably worse to be honest). You can’t even put together a coherent thought, congratulations on being the dumbest person I’ve encountered today.
Great Video.
very well done video .
What an excellent video
That R8 design makes alot of sense.
You got pro level in terms of video quality. And definitly damned great Shooters! Hope we:ll meet one of those days as i'm thinking about breaking the "Long range" limits with my upcoming Grs X-Bolt 243... Any comments are welcome. Regards from France! 🇫🇷
The music is amazing
Just awesome! :D
Greatest long distance shooting video I've seen! Great shooting as well. What suppressor are you using?
impressive shooting and nature
I am really impressed
Awesome stuff thank you. I notice most shots are from an elevated poition. From my hunting experience I found these shots the most difficult as my point of impact on such shots was always high due to the flatter trajectory and lesser effect of gravity during bullet flight. It was always a seat of your pants shot compaired to a flat shot my rig was zeroed for. I appreciate the calculated approach you guys take. Good vidio thank you.
Thanks
Excellent video - thanks for sharing.
well these guys are awesome.
Impressive!
Super heftig film. Glæder mig til i laver langholds filmen nummer 2
Thank you 😊
Excellent film....... and it is a film. Great 👍 info too.
Cheers
Very interesting
Very tough shooting weather and your skills are right on target, was a bit disappointed as the title said how to build,..... I am working at that point in skill, to get where you are is going to require the long range range and time along with ammo. I am impressed with the topography that you deal wit and the skill you do it with but it doesn't give much illumination to the how to part Thanks. great shooting
hello, I want to know, Picatinny rail is blaser? (few moa) and mount rings are spuhr 0 moa or 20
AWESOME
Hi; i have a question. Which size of flip-Cover fits on the 4,8-35x60? Thanks
What calculator or app or rule do you use to determine intermittent elevation after getting your 100 and 800 dope?
Awesome video! Question: What brand is the jacket of the shooter? The olive green one.
Well done, beautiful video. Do you have any recommendations for a marinate sauce for rubber ducks?
I have that exact same R8. Did you have to drill into the stock yourself to add the Spigot adapter?
Hi, first, your film is fantastic!
What kind of mounting do you use in this video?
Does it have a forward tilt of 20MOA?
Are you still able to hit targets with this setup at 100metres?
What kind of distance-ranges can you shoot with this setup?
I'm asking all these questions because i'm highly interested in this scope and
noticed that the scope has only 100 clicks with 0,5cm/100m.
Nice system/formula,and that was close to a hit
Nice video, nice gun. Which bipod is on the weapon mounted?
Hi Thomas, Was just wondering what the make and model of the weaver saddle mount is?
Great Video, I have a question for you, at 5:27 and 9:42 it's apparent that the bipod is a Sako, but the stock isn't a TRG.
How did you get that to work on the stock, Most people who spent the money for the Sako bipod, I'm sure would love the ability to use it on other stocks.
Exceptional
very well put together video, thanks for putting the effort. Do you organise any shooting courses up there?
+Roderick Formosa Get in touch with Thomas via www.thlr.no
Hi. Great vid. But I have a question about rifle, witch stock is it? Decima spotter or spotter varmint?
Btw when you will make another video like that?
Impressive wow. I would love to know more about you shooting tables, please share. This would come handy in South Africa
Hi Hannes - get in touch with Thomas Haugland. / Charlie
Beautiful country. Would love to live on that house.
Absolutely one of the best shooting videos on RUclips. Thank you for sharing with us.
Is that the GRS Nordic wolf stock?
Does anyone know what brand are the gloves that appear at 7:00?
Thank you
From memory, the stock is GRS. Can't speak for the gloves. / Charlie
Fabulous.
And experiance with The Swarovski DS scopes are they worth it?
Interesting to see a few thumbs down! Not sure why as these guys area class act and have taught me much over the years.
Thanks fore nice nature video. How do You get arround a limited elevation turret on the V8. You have reached out to cca 900m. Your zero must be 450m or so. HOW ON EARTH WITHOUT TILTED BASE?
@13:36 I was as excited as being on the top of a roller coaster. Man I would just love to shoot at this place! I should start a fund me page and see if I can raise money for an airline ticket to get over there! HA! It would be a dream! Awesome!
Thank you for the awesome video. I would like to ask you what kind of action are you using for your long range rifles and what chambering are they in??
It's the Blaser R8, which is a straight-pull action, chambered in .338 Lapua. Here's a write-up: www.gundigest.com/guns/rifle-reviews-articles/blaser-offers-338-lapua-option-in-r8-long-range
What a beautiful country
