This was my life for about 8 years..I made those exact phone calls and was deeply involved in drugs and everything else. Got clean but lost my 1st baby girl because i had no stable home for her. It almost killed me..Jesus pulled me out and that's the only reason I'm alive. But I avoided my parents because I never had "good news".. My dad passed a week after my 2nd daughter was born in 2021..intense nostalgia! Now i have a great job, own a home and raising my 2nd baby with her dad. Praying for Tom and Nova! Praying for all those out there who still have "bad news"...

My baby boy, 21, committed suicide on Jan. 2nd of this year. It was two years to the day I lost my oldest son to suicide as well. I had sent this song to my baby boy just days before. I don't know if he ever listened to it or not. But this song has really touched my life and in my heart I feel he can hear it. I pray for every soul affected by mental health and addiction. And for their families. As well as the survivors of someone lost by suicide. We have to stop losing our people. Thank you for this song. It will forever represent my son's struggle.

It touches my soul when he sings to his grandma. No matter what, I always knew that my grandmother was praying for me & loving me. she was the most humble person I knew in my life; living in the basement of another person's home but still going to the "old-folks" home to cook for them, even when she was old enough to be there herself, and giving her portion to the needy as God instructed. She accepted who she was, what she was capable of, and demanded nothing from others - she always looked for ways to provide for others. She was also my 3rd mother before I was 3. I know she would cringe at Tom's appearance ;), but approve of his message & hug him & love him.

i think what sets Tom apart from most other rappers is that his songs are about universal experiences that all people can relate to, and not about some eccentric flamboyant lifestyle, like most rap music has been reduced to. everyone can relate to what his songs are about and this one is a good example. we all at some point have this experience that we sometimes may be hurting our parents thru our life choices.

I personally know that it's not a easy journey I'm clean too been clean for 9 1-2 months now from heroin, meth, and shooting up I was an active user for 2 1-2 yrs with my ex that's all We did was chasing dope and then the dope controlled us.. I lost 2 of my houses and my job was at 10 yrs and lost custody of my son lpmy license was suspended /revoked I got pulled over so many times been arrested and been PR out few times and got fines I gotta pay or end up locked up.. that's a rough life for anyone, being a addict on the streets , it was hard and I wouldn't wish it on anyone but 9 months later I'm slowly getting my life back together. . Paying off my fines.. I'm back with my family and especially my son..

I lost my mom March 25, 2023 and that night my heart broke in an unrepairable way. She battled stage 4 breast cancer for 10 years and gave it a fight it wasn’t expecting. She was the strongest woman in my life she gave me and my sisters life , turned a house into a home and heart of gold. It’s been 1 yr now and it still feels like she left us yesterday. I miss you momma.

My daughter was an addict. I know the recovery process is about the addict but I can not understate how much we the parents are traumatized.We waited daily for the call from police . Every time our phones rang we got nauseous thinking this is the one. Try living in a constant state of dread and fear for a year.

Some of us go through hell and back, at the age of 16 I almost died 3 times, both lungs stabbed, colon, intestines emergency open heart surgery, my only brother died from pills at 38 my only sister gave up her kids and is Homeless. Yeah, bro. That's not Nova's voice. It's autotuned out. Nova sings back-up on most of Tom's stuff. She's amazing. I love her. I was actually bummed when her voice was "effected". I'm still a fan of this song. All I'm saying is she's a beast in her own right. Check out "Problem" by Nova Rockafeller, or even "Lasers" or "Ghengis Kahn", "Jesus on My Neck". Can't go wrong. I'm hoping and praying she comes with a straight-up rap album soon. She's brilliant.

But God forbid a person like me have to go thru all that alone. good thing i do have my parents and the biggest factor, God. Did your mom get to see you clean before she passed? I’m also a former addict, been clean since 1-18-10. I put my parents and many more that cared about me through some absolutely sad, pathetic, uncontrollable, angry situations. My mom passed a few years ago. Getting clean was thing I’m glad I got to accomplish before she passed. Sadly enough, my daughter was born in the same day my mom passed. Keep your head up. There is always better days ahead. They won’t be easy. If they were, nobody would relapse or fall into addiction in the first place. Set the date you got clean so every year you can see your progress knowing you made it another year. Stay strong
@@YourGrannysThong unfortunately she didn't. We lived in different states and the last time she visited it was absolutely awful.
However, after she got back home we talked daily sometimes 5 or 6 times a day. She was my best friend. I poured my entire heart out to her and just apologized in every single manner that I could. And she understood. She had forgiven me. Her baby of 4 girls.
I went to prison 3 weeks after she died. I am grateful she wasn't alive to see that .
I got clean after leaving.

I used to be in a rap crew, wrote tons of lyrics, owned dozens of rap albums by mobb deep, nas, all the old talent, the real hiphop. Then came the late 2000s… dry. Hiphop died for me. The once in a million good song got drowned by all the crap. Didn’t think I’d ever listen to hiphop or rap again, until I found Tom. This dude is single handedly (well, including Nova, doublehandedly) breathing new life into the genre. Even though he’s right in saying that the genre is a shitshow…

Wow what a song. I'm 51 and I have to say I have not liked a rapper in a while. As a mon with a 16 year old dealing with pressure of fitting in and getting caught up and thinking about all the other parents our there and kids/young adults I wont lie it made me cry. Got to me big time. Our kids are growing up in a messed up time and us parents have to try our hardest to keep them safe. Thank you for keeping it real in this song. Much love to all of you and to anyone out there that is experiencing this 🙏 my son was into minor things weed and me, his dad did everything we could to get him away from it because it was getting bad and then something new came along. If you have to search there rooms, pockets, school bags, anything do it. If you have to go to adolescent counseling and weekly drug testing...do it. If you have to get out of the surroundings do it. Keep the kids #1 don't ever give up and for the kids out there reading this please reach out to a parent, friend, school, neighbor anyone about anything your doing and going through/feelings please.
