I was sceptical for the first 3 Episodes of Season 1. They were pretty bad 😅 But surprisingly, it really picked up after that. And most importantly: The acting got much better! The effects are awesome. I read the books, and I wish they went for a more imaginative world as I imagined it. And not a grey and boring realistic world 😅
I don't think people can realize how much people is behind one of this animals. Concept artist, lead concept artist, character artist, lead character artist, texture artist, one if not more, fur or hair artist even feathers artist, rigger, animator, the one that will simulate all the muscle movement and phisics. And then the same for the enviroment, lighting, direction, art direction... A very long list of people (that are some of he best cg artists out there)
Narrowing it down to 8 out of the 30 (estimate) forms of Pan was a good decision to represent personality change. Looking forward to watching the next season!
This is how you should be doing VFX effects instead of just having cgi characters that don’t look real. This shows puts the care to making there characters being living creatures
Everything about this show brings happy tears to my eyes. I was a year older than Lyra when the books were translated to French and I got them at Xmas and read them and it was the first time I saw myself in a character. I was a tomboy, I was stubborn, I felt like Lyra. As a 36 year old, it's strange to see this thing I've been imagining for so long being brought to life, and so well. I mean sure, not everything is exactly how I imagined it, but it also all 100% makes sense. By that I mean: even though it's not *exactly* how I pictured it, I'm thrilled with the result because it's also true and fits the description to a T. And the things that don't (ex: Daphne Keen doesn't look like Lyra, but she sure *is* Lyra), they all fit anyway because imagination is subjective and the descriptions in the books are not extremely precise. And even the things like the witches where it's a departure from the books, it's also feels like it makes sense, you know? I don't know how y'all did it, but you redeemed that movie series ;)
on the show you don't realise it is actual CG. you see animals, you see spirits, you see daemons. to see the work that is behind that, and how they managed make that come to life is really cool.
1:39 I love the subtlety of this moment. It's tender, loving, heartfelt. It's so easy to exaggerate these sorts of expressions when working with 3D animal characters, and just as easy to underdo it, ruining the moment completely. These artists clearly understood this when designing these dæmon characters because they seem to have found a wonderful balance between believability and artistic license. It seems as though "subtlety" is a word whose meaning is lost in other productions touting huge animal casts, or they veer too far into naturalism that we can no longer relate, but not here. All those hours of modeling, animating and rendering were clearly worth it and wish the fx artists here were given the proper credit they deserve.
This book series changed my whole perspective on life when I first read it in my 20's...Made me fall in love with bittersweet endings as well....I Am so glad to see other ASOIAF fans enjoying this series.
I remember when I was reading the books that Pan had turned into a wolverine at one point. I think it would have been very fitting for Dafne Keen (Lyra) to have Pan as a wolverine if you get what I mean
@@JHF80 I like that progression, where Pan’s ability to turn into a wolverine (or honey badger, honestly don’t know) gives Pan the strength to overpower Marisa’s daemon whereas it couldn’t before, demonstrating growth for both Pan and Lyra.
Not true, cg in the lion king is some of the best cg you can find, the fact that in the lion king they have all cg environment can make you think it is not that good.
Personally, I think it ALWAYS turns out a whole lot better when they do BOTH puppets AND CGI animation! That’s exactly what they did with Game of Thrones when it came to the dragons and the other creatures and look how spectacular they turned out!! Doing the puppets shows us that they’re willing to animate everything to the letter and make them seem as real as possible
These creators, the whole cast and team are so so uniquely talented! How they manage to make such real beautiful animals (daemons), in such great detail and such real situations is so extraordinary and in such good time! Wow! Thank you for making my favourite books into my favourite series! Can't wait for future episodes in Season 2, Season 3 and maybe even more! Wow, 6 months animation for the Bear scene...
The special effects are incredible. Congrats and many thanks to the team for giving us this . Pity the show went downhill after the 6th episode of season 1 (through no fault of the special effects though). I hope there will be a season 3 that will be as good as season 1.
Real talk...I love HBO max...like they be doing shows that is like none other. And it's just such a pure delight to see how amazing the cast and crew really care about the show
On the upside, I love the Daemons and how lifelike they are, especially Boreal's snake. On the downside, I'm saddened at how... empty the background is, seeing how other characters tend to lack visible Daemons save for specific people.
I read an interview where the makers of this say that they had to heavily limit the daemons' presence due to budget constraints, hence why only daemons of main characters are shown - even though every human on screen should have a daemon close by, and even the main characters' daemons are not shown in every scene, as they said it'd cost too much. :(
Pleeeeaseeeee do a third season!!!! 🙈🙈🙈🙈 My mom and I love the show! The golden compass was one of my favorit-book-trilogy and you did such an amazing job! 😍 transforming it in so many good ways! Impressive really! Thank you! 🙈 Cant wait for the last season! ✨
I hope they get more budget so that season 3 will be more awesome. I mean, the angels, the Authority, Metatron??? Should be amazing if they have a bigger budget.
This seems very expensive, i hope this show gets more love so they won't cancel it. I know HBO is capable with the budget but GOT was a hit while i only just heard about this show
I hope this video will shut up all the "fans" saying there aren't enough deamons on screen. Just look at how much detail goes into this and imagine all the time and money that goes into it and add 1 and 1 together. Great job everyone, keep it up!
I have a big problem woth this ideology of how all children think. Many kids would love to turn into gigantic beast jist vc its strong. Doesnt mean theyd be voilent tho. Many severly abused children would also love to turn intp a gigantic beast and hurt all the people who abused them. The mind of a child can still be both dark and innocent if all that child is trying to do is defend themselves.
It looks really beautiful but didn't we already know this story? Why again, recreate something existent? Why not create a new story? Even if it's similar...
Stream His Dark Materials Season 2 on HBO Max when it premieres November 16, 2020: itsh.bo/get-hbomax
When will Australia get access?
This series is wonderful, the attention to detail, the cinematography, everything is just superb.

Ikr!
One of the best shows on TV. I wish HBO would promote it more
I love how they made the deamons look realistic and also make them emote in a way which didn't feel off putting
looking forward for the second season.
The scene where the golden monkey attacks pan was sooo horrifying.
Wait till you see lyra get payback in season 2, episode 5
@@Yestoanime yeah when I saw that I was like *gasp* I was so proud
@@vamps_org I know! It was reay intense! And the way Mrs.Coulter controlled her pain to look at Lyra was creepy
Didn't really think about how he said the monkeys "motherly" comforting in that scene I do now
Yes, i Remember that scene from the movie that i saw
I love how unique this process is! I love the idea that they use puppets!
yeah, it's super cool! I feel like it would be loads easier to interact with a puppet than a tennis ball on a stick lol it was def worth the effort

I agree! The effects are amazingly realistic. Except for when Serafina is flying 😂 that always looks super fake and CG
@@fantesticlesnop5814 still better in the show then in the film XD
Fun fact: in the first book, Pan turns himself into a small dragon. i wonder if that means dragons exist in their world.
This cg is literally the best

The attention to details show. Absolutely amazing and so realistic. So happy to see a book series I have read done right on camera finally.

So excited for season 2. HDM is one of my favourite book series ever and I think they did an amazing job with the show.
This is really my favourite show on HBQ! The actors, puppets and everything ❤️ the worlds and the worlds! I just love it so much

The cg is better than the cg in the lion king
I do not think lion king cg is bad, in fact it was too real and it loses the charm. It looks like I was watching a documentary in the cinema lol
@@aegnor2102 Is not it the point? Real animals lack of facial expression?

The daemons and animals in this series were so well done, it was easy to accept them as real.

True but it probably takes time to animate one for every single character we meet

Yeah, it's such a shame, showing everyone with their Daemons would really pull the world together, but that's the limit of the budget.
My god, you people are hard to please.
Its only noticeable in big crowds and tbh its not that bad if you aren’t really looking for it

they should show how Mrs Coulter is brought to life by plastic surgery, great show but a horrible casting on that one
