I agree 100% that an Eaton twin splitter is not the "best gearbox ever" and don't understand anyone who says they are. I challenge anyone who has ever driven a vehicle with one fitted to deny that they never emptied the shelf above the windscreen. I have driven an american truck. We had a Peterbilt show truck when I worked for Pollock and drove it to Truckfest Scotland from the Musselburgh depot (the truck was white back then). It was a horrible truck to drive with the cab area quite small, a huge bonnet and, being a left hooker, a nightmare to negotiate roundabouts (you couldn't see a thing). It was also not easy to move around the yard with a terrible turning circle. I did look good though, especially once it was painted in the company livery.
My dad came home one day in 1978 in an American White. When we saw it we thought it was from the film convoy. Great Times.
Had 2 at Stan Robinson Sandy .no bad box on motorway .but try 20 drops in Edinburgh lol .take a brush with you when going down the box lol

Driving a 2018 Peterbilt 389 15 litre Cummins 18 speed RR pulling set of super B hoppers grossing 63.5 ton l, cruise set at 115km/h going down highway 9 in Alberta heading for Altona Manitoba. Got the comfort of an auld Fergie tractor but looks good for pictures on Instagram

I drove the kenworth that Barry Proctor owns as a show truck.. first time I drove it I didn’t have the gearbox layout so just literally winged it … then couple times after that it was like second nature great experience 😊
Used to use the splitter in a 1987 Seddon Atkinson 311 8 wheel tipper. Wasn’t the worst box for sure, better than some other boxes around at that point
Sandy 1st company I worked with had an 8 pegger bulker ec11 and an ec11 unit both Eaton twin.. took a bit to get used to a 1st.. but a real driver required 😅
love the kenworth look alike ,, and yes for the time the twin split was the best gearbox going once the truck was rolling you never needed to use the clutch , old now but at the time bloody great

Excellent...ERF with a Gardener engine and a Leyland Marathon with a rolls royce 265 motor my first two trucks then a seddon atkinson with a 290 cummings...All excellent looking back....Great video chap..Have a great weekend ahead

I have driven Kenworth T404 T404S K100E K104B K108 K200, all Cumins ISX OR X15 all with 18 speed manual, apart from the K200 which was a auto. Best trucks ever.
I didn’t mind the Eaton twin splitter back in the day , once you had pulled away you didn’t need the clutch much, 👍🏻
Best manual was the Volvo F1220 I had with 4+4 with a splitter, worse I had was a Davie Broon 6 speed on the Atkinson Borderer 😩 I prefer the auto on my new gen Scania I have now 👍🏻

I have driven kenworth t800's 10,13,15 and 18 speed boxes in them mix of cat and Cummins engines, if you're learning how to shift them and all that goes with that cat engined 10 speed is provably best, nicest was the 18 speed Cummins powered ones though that combination Takes some beating

Im no truck mechanic Sandy but after seeing that American truck cab on an ERF rolling chassis I wondered at the time why couldn't they of put the Volvo cab on to the rolling Scania chassis? Is it not as easy as an engine swap? Cheers.

Yeah mate heaps of US gear here. In my opinion the Euro trucks are just to comfy and smooth for them though. Even
The Loggie boys are using them more and more in the bush. I have heard Kenworth are only making the smaller engine in the future too. Even the Asian gear is getting better, with help from its European brothers.

I worked for Dalkeith transport and drove a 6 legger that used to have a cattle float body on but they changed it to curtain side with cantilever taillift and yes Eaton twin splitter gearbox bitch of a box lol

Best gearbox ever, Spicer 1414 3A. Sorts the men out from the boys.
That K1 Aerodyne looks odd on a Euro chassis. Maybe it's how far back that steer axle is.
Don't necessarily have a favorite transmission but I'd say a 13 speed.
We don't commonly have mid nor tail lifts here because companies to cheap to order them. Rather waste tires. Same philosophy far as trailers.

Drove a cabover KW in Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦 for a company called Dave Cartage moving tower crane sections there was a hole in the floor in the passengers side worst truck ever to drive it was worse than driving a tractor 🚜 luckily it was only about 4 mile each way it was a complete sh1tbox that would have been about 20 years ago I've got the photos of it somewhere
Twin splitter was a pig to learn and good once you got your head around them but some were better than others 👍
Spent 16 yrs driving all makes of American trucks in Canada and USAfrom 2007 till 2022.for living space they are great but I never liked them the first and finish is crap on them all.engines and gearbox are so agricultural compared to European trucks.

I own a 2015 Scania and have driven next gens while in uk but also work for a US company in middle east as a mechanic maintaining kenworth units and they are fun to drive but build quality and comfort of US trucks are nowhere near as good as a Scania

its a kenworth on a scania chassis set up looks crap real ones dont sit that far back or have a massive gap before front wheels even the k100e dont look like that messed up pile of crap the cost he been better off buying a real 1
